  • These little guys are cute and have little to no odor. For those of us who are allergic to rats and mice these rodents offer relief from allergies.
    Thanks to 46 and 2 Reptiles for some great informative videos on ASFs.

    I recently was informed that spinal injury can happen if you grab them by the tail so grabbing them closer to the base of the tail is safer or simply picking them up from underneath and not grabbing their tail at all. These are pretty tame so that’s what i do now. No more tail grabbing.

    • @broz1488
      @broz1488 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doubt it. Been breeding thousands of mice, AFS and rats for about ten years now, and I've never seen a spinal injury caused from lifting them by their tail. If someone claims they know of such a spinal injury occuring, I can guarantee you that whatever they did, it was a violent grab of the tail. Probably by forcefully trying to pull a mouse or rat off a running wheel or the cage bars, while the mouse was clinging to the bars or trapped in the wheel.

    Thank you for your vid! I understand that everything gotta eat, but a lot of these asswipes on TH-cam show these "educational feeding videos" and you can tell both them and their viewers get off on the violence!!!

      I agree. I hate the fact that snakes eat rodents and i will never show a live feeding. Bad for the hobby and live is very risky for a bite from a rodent to your snake.

      @@kgconstrictors Thank you!!! I had a mouse problem and I waz using sticky traps and gently & carefully SLOWLY take them off but my fiancé bought me 4 live traps. They are invasive house mouse, so I can't turn them loose, so in keeping them they grew on me, like a fungi!!! Lol. They are cute, funny, and interesting to watch.

      It's always about perspective here. It's so easy to just watch something die in suffering and agony-I'd rather die by a snake-its more humane a million ways to die-cancer treatments almost killed me. No joke-I was in pain for MONTHS and wanted someone to put me out of my damn misery. I was always on the floor crying and begging. It was bad for me.
      Turn this around as to people from being the watchers to actually go through and experience dying and I promise you they will be on their knees crying, begging, praying, etc.
      It NEVER fails. I watch enough survivor documentaries and its why a lot of people have to be on meds for PTSD in life and death experiences.
      Animal attacks like bears, cougars, wolves, etc., it's so damn relative as to prey animals because truth be told HUMANS are prey too. predators are NOT on top because there is always a bigger predator that will.
      So, it's about respect here and what I just went though I've come to love how beautiful every being is and also promised myself to NEVER buy any live animal to feed to another; to witness their death.
      Frozen fine, to be put down through a humane way; sleep I accept. I love snakes and are notably under my horoscope sign are my spirit animals-I have other, birds certainly are my core and I do love mice, the animals I eat, cows, pigs, etc. I love and respect them. It's irony and I'm more of a scavenger and can never be a predator, hunter. I don't have the spirit lol.
      I loathe and HATE people who get some type of pleasure out of watching something die. It's ABNORMAL, its PERVERSED. Mental illness. Go SEEK help because I'm sure this is pathological behavior and dangerous too. I know there are a lot of ugly sick people out there and things I wish I didn't know what people do other than violence...a lot of sick S**t. I pity them and hope karma will balance them.
      Wouldn't be surprised that people who are cruel die a terrible death and or find themselves reincarnated into an animal they mock through dying will experience the same fate. (Seem some amazing karma and such so I wouldn't put it past the world for this to happen to them although I wouldn't wish any of it on anyone or any other life. I'm not sick or evil but I do believe in justice and Cosmic balance.
      I know pain and suffering and have had a lot of my next-door neighbors die over cancer.
      Love and peace mankind, love and peace and at least some damn respect and Self-reflecting.
      Living and life are not a mistake. It's a journey short or long into the next life and so on.
      Just live and connect and learn. Perfection is a fantasy concept.

    • @kgconstrictors
      @kgconstrictors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and yes i have been successfully breeding them since i started my first colony in October of 2021. They are great mothers and I find it perfect to keep 4 females to one male. Litters every 23 days from each female.
      Yes you can in breed them.
      I started with 5 females and 1 male and created lots of new colonies with brothers and sisters and they are all doing fine.
      In nature in breeding i the asf world is standard as they dont tolerate outside rats coming in to their colony.

    I have small tubs and I'm worried that where they have babies that are 4 weeks old then fresh pinkies in there aswell I don't want the 4 week old ones getting eaten off due to limited space would you say the 4 week old ones would be fine if I took them out and put them in a grow out bin

    • @kgconstrictors
      @kgconstrictors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes what I do is make sure there is a water bottle that hangs low enough for the 4 week olds to get too. Ive had good luck without any babies being eaten. I worry more about the older babies out muscling the pinkies for milk.
      As long as the 4 week olds are drinking from a water bottle you can move them. I also keep food on the tub floor for them.

      You are welcome Carlos.
      The shredded aspen can be found at Fleet Farm in a big bag that says premium horse bedding. 6 bucks for 7 cubic feet
      The pellets are basically wood stove pellets.
      I will do another video soon showing the items clearly. You can also use a less fine aspen which are less like snake bedding and more chunkier.

    Questions: I have only 2 snakes. Coastal & jungle carpet pythons. Not looking to increase the number of snakes. With just those 2 snakes. How many rats I would need to be able to keep those 2 snakes well fed? Do you have an email address?

      If I bought 2 large breeding cages to start like the ones you have in video. Would that be enough? I enjoy your video. With huge expense of rats in my area and recession coming. Trying to be able to feed my snakes as cheap as I can.

    • @kgconstrictors
      @kgconstrictors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean how many breeder rats would you need to keep them fed?
      If so You could do 4 females and 1 male. Keep in mind you would need a rack of some sort to grow out the baby rats up to feeder size.

      @@kgconstrictors thank you so much for quick response. I live in a apartment. I was going to get 2 of the large cages you got and after the babies come get 2 more. If I clean all cages every week.. with same stuff you use, you think I will be ok with the smell?

    • @broz1488
      @broz1488 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mugsie101 hi, I found the system below works very well for me when breeding rats. You keep the male rat in a big tub and put the females with him one at a time. Once a female is visibly pregnant, you move her to a smaller maternity tub putting the second female with the male. In the separate smaller maternity tub, she can have her babies and suckling them in peace for a month or so apart from the breeding tub. Once a month or six weeks is up and the pups can be weaned, you return the female to the breeding tub to be impregnated again. Allowing the babies to mature for another month in the maternity tub before moving them to the large feeder tub. This way you keep your females healthy by only breeding them every second or third month instead of every month if left with the male. It allows you to see which females are your best breeders with the largest litters. It prevents the other rats eating the babies when she can raise her pups alone in a separate maternity tub. It allows you to control how many babies you produce, by delaying returning the female to the colony tub with the male if you don't want her to become pregnant again to soon.
      To feed two carpet pythons, you will need 8-10 rats a month. A rat will produce on average around 10-12 babies a litter. Once you get the cycle going, you will only need one female to give birth each month. As a female can get impregnated immediately after she gives birth, she is able to have a litter every month. With four females birthing every month, you will soon have more rats than your snakes can eat. Also rats generally don't co-share in the suckling of the pups like mice or ASF's do, often when multiple females are birthing together, the dominant female will try to claim all the pups, resulting in half starved pups as she tries to raise all the pups, or she will kill some of the submissive female's pups.
      Babies raised using the maternity tub method, are healthier, fatter and grow faster than those raised in a colony setting like mice.
      Your cycle will be first female with the male getting impregnated, second female pregnant in a maternity tub waiting to give birth, third female with newborn young pups, fourth female with weaned pups ready to be returned to the breeding tub.
