- Commander Gaius is one of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree and after dying countless times I developed a cheese strategy to easily kill him without having to fully engage him and lead him to his death. The video explains how to cheese him.

Maliketh is an incredibly good boss, but requires people to play the game and learn how the combat fundamentals work.
A lot of players go through the game with cheese builds and end up getting hard stuck there because they didn't learn anything in their playthrough spamming L2 with the blasphemous blade or sword of night and flame.
Maliketh is a great example of play however you want, but don't cry if you sabotage your game experience and choose to circumvent the learning process.
True. He is my favorite boss.
But Gaius over here with his busted hurtboxes is not even comparable imo. I hated pulling out tank builds with 40 endurance, black flame protection etc to just be done with it (with calculated trades) but it is what it is.
This dlc feels very off and inconsistent with scoobydoo fragment mechanic.
Literally the worst boss design ever. The charge attack is so inconsistent to dodge
He is really tough but if you can get the glitch to work cuts down on a ton of memorizing for the battle!
Just roll to the side using either windy tear or light roll.
Every time I get it down to the last half and move to the final spot he blasts me with a one shot magic

Honestly this cheese isn’t making much of a difference. I found when I struggled to fight him normally I would get him down more then what this guide is trying to do. Half the time he doesn’t even get stuck and just two hits me. The first hit staggers so I can’t even run not even on torrent. I honestly don’t think it’s possible for me to beat this dumb boss which pisses me off cause I’ve beaten ever other one so far
@@tristanmarleau8279 I gave up and accepted that I needed more fragments and then went back to kill him. Try summoning randoms to help you with not getting hit so much cuz he’ll be focused on them until he realizes you hit him✅
@tristanmarleau8279 yep. I'm in the same boat. Half the time he doesn't get stuck and that's a wrap. When he does, the rot barely even loops around to hit him and he eventually finds his way around the corner than it's good night. You can't even run away on torrent because torrent isn't fast enough, even if you try, he'll blast you off and it's helloooo loading screen. Really hope they patch this boss.

i tried this as well, much faster and if you get the stun at the right time you can get him to 20% hp before phasing, very nice

For any squishy INT users: Get the Greatshield Soldier Ashes (+10), equip your best staff in one hand, the staff of loss in the other and then spam him with night comet. The soldiers do a great job of getting his aggro while you destroy him with night comet. Worked great for me :)
Do you need to fully upgrade the staff of loss?
@@TylerEdlin84 If you are using it in your non-casting hand nope. You want it equipped for the huge damage boost to night sorceries but it doesn‘t need to be upgraded.

is there a freeze glitch i swear my giaus is to aggressive for that strat he mows me down every time and even when i get both parts working he moves or does a one shot ground spike
He will only stay stuck on that column during phase one and he will do a slam move at the close of that phase and you have to move to the second area for the second phase.
Yea so every time I get him to phase 2 he flies in the sky and hits me no matter what and the thing is if torrent gets hit it insta kills him and my dude takes 10 years to stand up and he just kills me before I even can, then if I get past he insta kills me with a spike from the ground or he just won’t get stuck on the columns
This is what I did: two hand Mohegan sacred spear (I upgraded it as far as I could to +9). I didn’t meet the stats so I equipped starscourage heirloom, radagons sorseal, Marika sorseal, outer god heirloom and silver tear mask). I followed this guide to get him stuck as shown in phase one. Spammed bloodborne ritual which is the weapons L2 attack (had to move a little to the left of the corner for it to hit). Did the same exact thing for phase two. Got him stuck in that same spot. Got him first try after doing this. Also, right when you go in through the fog gate if you mount horse then right before you are about to get hit unmount you will not take damage from invincibility s. Felt vindicated to “try fingers, but hole” this boss.

@@Ogles I did and still got ran over but there’s also a spot if you turn left he’ll charge into the wall and get stuck. I found that out and was able to cheese him easily without torrent

I used your pillar strategy for the whole fight (insead of running to the left geometry from entrance) combined with Mogh Spear Special. Took two extra attempts to learn when to switch sides and how to properly dismount, but worked.

Thanks for the tip Bud. I did exactly what you said and just finished it in 2 runs. I still have time to summon my Mimic the 2nd run and then go straight to the 1st spot. Once i positioned myself it go straight to me leaving the mimic behind and as for me i dodged and go straight to the 2nd spot. He was trapped there with the mimic while i was casting Mohgwyn's Spear skill. He wasn't able to go to phase 2 and died there. I was just wondering why the 2nd phase didn't happen, but thankfully I'm glad it didn't. Again, thanks for the tip. A like and subscribed to you Buddy, Cheers.

Thank you for this. It did take me a few tries to get him stuck initially . . . But when I finally got him this fight was over. I (like others in the comments) used Mohg's Spear and nuked him. I am NG+7 and Scadu level 15 and this M'fer just wrecked me no matter what build or shield. Multiple tries and he was just too wonky and hit too hard. So, I appreciate the cheese to just put this bastard behind me :)

It worked and mohg's spear also works but when you enter you need to be equipped with the incantations because of you go in with mogh's weapon the mimic Will rush to the boss and die, so firstly you need to go In with the incantations and when you can equip mohg's weapon and then its kinda easy.
The WORST boss!!! Unfortunately, in his second phase, I couldn't get the commander to stay in the corner :( so here's what worked for me (TANK BUILD):
I don't use a summon because the bastard is too fast and the summon will die lol. Stick to the boar's butt and attack him with the blasphemous blade's special move. Everytime the commander turns to attack, you HAVE TO remain close to him using the Fingerprint Stone Shield (i use that, but i guess any greatshield will work). The shield will block the commander's frontal attack. Keep an eye on your stamina!!! Use this strategy the entire fight. Stay close to the boar's butt, use the special attack of the blasphemous blade. When he turns around, defend yourself using the greatshield again. Go to the back of the roar and repeat the attack.
The secret is to stay near the commander (I lock the target), so he doesnt have time to use his crazy-gravity-insane-jump in his second phase. Hope it helps ;)

Use the Talisman of Dread and the full powered Blasphemous Blade. The Taker's Flame will damage him for 5,000.

Not sure man, game hasn’t been patched since the filming and I did the freeze at least 20 times while working for the second phase strategy. Second phase is harder to get though.

This was difficult for me even with the video but eventually a combination of this vid along with some of your loyal followers that suggested Moghs spear…it worked. i just fought him and beat him after 2.5 hrs.... i almost unistalled even after winning. that fight just assured i wont being doing another run of the DLC.

THANK YOU! I never quite managed to get him fully stuck on the second phase, but was able to consistently get him pinned on that pillar to get him to phase 2. Took about 2 hours, but so glad it's over with!
I just use Miriam’s Varnishing spell to phase out and teleport behind Giaus charged attack.

This guide was great and was how I beat it. Only variations I did was I threw out my soldiers spirits ash right before he hit 50% and I used the Scarlett tree rather than the breath since it has longer range and easier to cause scarlet rot from a far.

THIS BOSS IS DOODOO. I hate him so much it's so inconsistent and rng. I've been doing the same exact thing you were doing and it just doesn't work... Leveled up my Mohg spear and just used that instead of the dragon rot. Faster and such an easy cheese, guaranteed kill.
I must be playing a different game because my commander gius is way faster, has no rest time, and doesn’t get behind pillars
As of the time of this comment, this method is still working. Its not perfect, but much, much better than facing that porcine bestard in the open field.
You can use zamor ice storm here (Long hold then release) just walk forward if you feel you’ll fall off. My character kept sliding. ( I was not on torrent) He’ll try coming around once or twice and just goto the other side if so.
I do the whole strat till the second fase and then I get him locked where he can’t take damage and then I can’t prock scarlet rot again and he don’t an AFE move that kills me in 1 hit cause it stun locks me so I can’t dodge out of the second hit and I don’t know what to do I feel like I am doing everything right so I am completely lost 😞
It helped out I also managed to use the Mohgwyns Sacred spear during the second phase as the bloodboon ritual played a good factor in defeating Gaius
Got him after 3 tries. Go right at him.
Quality Black Steel Greatshield +25
Blasphemous Blade +10
Taker's Flame melted him.
Divine Bird Warrior Ornis +10 as a summons

This boss absolutely sucks. The worst one I’ve fought so far. I can confirm he still gets stuck on the 1st pillar. What’s annoying about the 2nd part is his constant invincibility when near the fog gate, so you have to apply rot a 2nd time, I’m going to keep trying. Another annoying this is that my mimic will disappear for some reason when he gets stuck. What a piece $h!t boss FromSoft 👏🏻
Okay so I cheesed this guy today after watching this. It took a few attempts but here’s my advice. Use Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear to inflict AOE bleed on that first pillar during the first part of his video, he still gets stuck there when Gaius is in the back (side away from fog gate) and you are on the lip of it (on the side closer to fog gate). Once he goes 2nd phase run for your life, then try to get him back to that pillar. He does his annoying AoE gravity attack that can almost one shot you in his 2nd phase, but after a few tries, I got him stuck again on that pillar. And he went down like a little biyotch like he deserved with the spear. I did also inflict rot on him like this video shows during his first phase, so I think that’s also likely a good idea. This boss deserves to be cheesed, because this guy is awful with horrible hit boxes. Thanks FromSoft! I didn’t feel happy or proud afterwards, only relief that I wouldn’t have to deal with this again any time soon.

i killed radahn in 5 tries this guy is 5x harder than rahdan was pre-nerf
I also think he’s harder than Radahn if fighting normally.
I'm watching this after already defeating him, but seeing your mimic come into the battle and immediately start dodge-rolling back and forth for no reason at all made me laugh out loud. 😂

This strat took me three tries today and I nailed him. Never called in my spirit ashes. Fight went a bit different than on the video, though. At first I tried to make it to the first pillar on Torrent, but Gaius followed right after me and clobbered me (and killed Torrent). I didn't bother to jump back on Torrent, I simply sprinted to the other side of the pillar and Gaius got stuck, just as shown in the video. I kept running in-place into the wall; Gaius was on the other side. I then two-handed the Mohegan sacred spear (+10) and spammed its special skill. I was averaging between 2600 and 3400 damage with each thrust into the sky. At times I didn't get any hits. I think this was because Gaius had backed off the wall for some reason. But when I heard commotion from his side, I again went to work and just continued to hack away at him. If he moved into Phase 2 I was never aware of it. I killed him in that first phase. The mechanics of this strat are pretty easy, just don't overthink it. I was surprised I could make it back around the pillar on foot before Gaius nailed me, but that's exactly what happened and allowed me to take him out.

tried it today, still works. For extra speed use Moghwyn's Sacred spear.Bloodboon ritual goes though the wall and kills him faster then waiting out the rot.

If you get him caught in the first corner you mentioned in the video, you can spam mohgwyns spear and finish him completely 🎉

Make sure to position like I am in the video and get on torrent. And he will only stay stuck when on that one side of the building.
If you see him coming around the corner jump over him and go to the other side of the wall and keep going back and forth
I just use mohgwyn’s spear and spam the bleed then move around the corner and did the same, finish him in few min. I’m done with this boss lol. It does insane dmg and it was ng+3

@@Ogles sorcery character, I stayed on that lip the whole time and cast Zamor Ice Storm, and that did him in. It hits through the pillar. He didn’t ever find me other other side. Commander Gaius cheese 🧀 magic 🪄.

Just completed the fight. For anyone looking to make it a little easier Mohgwyns Spear works significantly better than rot. The guide is great for explaining how to position the boss around the pillar; however, using Mohg’s spear you want to stay on that pillar for the entirety of the fight. Follow the guide till the first pillar and position him just as the video instructs, then use the spears skill until his second phase activates. When he jumps in the air you can spam roll into the corner to dodge the AOE and then make your way to the other side of the pillar (while staying on the ledge). Once on the other side of the pillar in the second phase use the skill again until he dies. I will note on the second phase he might use some magic so be ready for that if necessary. Also since i was spamming only the skill make sure to add the talismans:
-Warrior Jar Shard
-Lord of Blood’s Exultation

I tried fighting him legit 20 times but the hit boxes are so ridiculous and I don’t want to have to completely change my build just for this one stupidass boss. This is by far the worst boss of this game

I'm lvl 410 NG+7, I defeated the avatar easily, the mother of fingers and Malenia. This boss is literally impossible, even with the cheese.
I surrender, fuck this commander gayius and whoever thought it was a good idea to implement it in the DLC.

Get the fingerprint shield and upgrade it to max with quality affinity. Greatshield Talisman + Curved Sword talisman. Counter attck him into oblivion with that silly boar of his.

I hate using cheap methods to kill bosses but this is by far the single most cancerous boss in the entire game. Lets make a mounted boss that's too fast to chase on foot but that's also faster than torrent so he can ride you down. His second phase 1 shot magic attack is a joke. Absolute dogshit boss design.

I just cheat engined his health to 0. Insta kill. I have seen bullshit bosses, i have taken on the Godskin Duo, but this? never in my life have i seen such a shitty boss not even in Dark Souls 2.

Scarlet Rot with Ekzykes's Decay only works on him some of the time. Many attemps simply don't work

this was really helpful, but every time i got close to killing him, he would launch rocks from the ground that i couldn’t dodge. it one shot me every time, even if he was stuck
Anybody struggling the best option is skeletal militiaman highest upgrade you can go and use impregnable torns spell. The skeleton are super aggressive and keeps his attention just spam spell
They already fixed this and doest work. They went out of their way to create a boss that is beyond unfair and un fun. This is when I wish I'd never bought the dlc.

This boss is the worst designed boss in any souls game i have ever played, the only boss ive ever fought in any game that is worse is probably the first phase of maliketh
if anyone is still having trouble with this boss forget this cheese get lighting perfumer bottles howl of shabiri and the rolling sparks ash of war there’s a couple more things you can get to increase damage like talismans but if you want to know more just look up the build do it fast to cause there’s no way it’s not getting nerfed 10k damage in 1 press of the trigger and it took me through the whole game

@@Jessicadahling91 if this doesnt work use the skeletal warriors ash. Or any ash that has multiple enemies so he can get distracted.

i used mohgyns spear for this and it worked perfectly. the only thing is that once you get him to around 25%, he’ll get out of the spot and do some magic move(at least in my case). if that happens all you have to do is just repeat the process and go to the corner again, and then rotate around to the other corner.

I fought this boss and beat him, he was tough but he’s pretty easy after you study his moves
I got him down to half-health with this method before he jumped out and one-shotted me.
Doesnt work anymore, breaks free an spams his spell to shoot you up in the air for a one hit kill
