The dlc was very good. Its possible to become as usual extremly overpowered. So if u cant kill the bosses just get the new spells/weapons. Thats the point of a real dlc. Not finishing it with all the skills and weapons u already had at the start...
I really enjoyed watching replays and supercuts of his streams on games like Outer Wilds. But I still think it was a net negative because time was spent there instead of on curated content which is his obvious strength. I said the same thing when he first announced his streams too. Like he implies in the video about Elden Ring, I'm not prophetic, I just made a prediction based on observed trends.
Hello Anderson-san. This is John From Software. Unfortunately, you made the grave error of referring to our glorious leader as Miyazaki-SAN instead of his rightful title of Miyazaki-sama. Consider our agreement voided. Your children will be placed in our unpaid QA team, forced to play Elden Ring Colosseum PVP for the remainder of their life in an effort to restore game balance. @@corn_BurnsI’m sure the dude’s kidding around but I truly enjoyed the perfect trifecta of JA-NoahCG-Matthewmatosis’ 3-4+ long video game analyses and retrospectives that first simmered and began what feels like almost a decade ago. Am I the only one actually enjoying the game? There has been so much negativity in this community, I for one am loving this game and am so glad that I preordered the ultrasuperduper deluxe edition. The game is fantastic and I don't understand the criticism at all. I swear I am not having a severe case of sunk cost fallacy and am definitely not just making this post as an desparate attempt trying to find other people to validate my overpriced purchase of a garbage game that I secretly hate but can't admit to myself
@@Laphi_desu Another trend in replies is the "Just because you x, doesn't mean y". Mostly used by the pokemons who retained their ability to speak, usually to shift blame to player. It's like a message template from the game itself. "Just because you edge, doesn't mean you don't have the right."
Concerning the last bit, I was reminded of the first few opinion pieces and reviews that came out shortly after the DLC released and how they basically all had the same little speech. "To be clear, I think this is the best DLC ever, at least a 10/10 and I worship it daily. I do have some minor nitpicks with it though, like [list of points that may or may not be valid], but as I said this is just my irrelevant little opinion and the DLC is the greatest thing ever. Please don't murder me." I find it a bit worrisome even if toxic behavior is obviously not confined to Fromsoft games. And that's the part where we remember that reading out negative game reviews is "content", as there can only ever be hyperbole. Flawless masterpiece or worst thing ever, nothing inbetween.
I was actually thinking similarly recently. It was after IGN gave another game a 7/10 and I realized it was because it was the most beneficial thing to do. They give a score high enough to appease people who loved the game but low enough that haters can swallow it without too much uproar. I've seen people in comments lambasting reviewers for opinions before the game even comes out -before they can even find out for themselves! And I watched a critique of the DLC recently where he gave it a 7/10 which is still a good score but the comments absolutely cooked him. People say they like diversity of opinions but really they come to these videos to have their opinions validated or to shut them down if their opinion doesnt match theirs. IGN is literally the product of the gaming community. This isnt a defense of them I hate IGN too. But I've come to realize people are just not able to hear dissenting opinions without being angry. Im guilty of it too. This is worrisome because look at Tears of the Kingdom. A decent enough game but it had legit criticisms. But the fanbase is rabid and wouldnt hear it. And if they receive bo criticism why should they ever change the formula or make adjustments? The game sold like crazy and had good reviews. The state of Pokémon or Assassin's Creed is where we'll end up
Oh dear, so much stuff there, eh? I had to think of Jim Sterling right now who gave Tears (or was it BotW? Both?) a 7/10 if I recall correctly "despite" applauding it. They get a lot of hate anyways, but at those moments, the fans seem to go especially rabid. Memes are actually interesting here. Think of the "videogame journalist difficulty" one, which has been intensely lapped up and repeated in Fromsoft fandoms. And then look at how Shadow of the Erdtree was discussed early on - suddenly it's all about difficulty again, with one half saying there's something off and another more elitist half saying git gud, except parts of the former belonged to the latter when another thing was "too difficult". If it happens to validate your opinions, you can point out that "even video game journalists get it, hahaha" or whatever. Look how all those video essays agree with me! And if you don't agree? Maybe you'll find somebody who shares your point of view and now you've got validation anyways. It should go without saying that the whole meme about video game journalists is the usual manchild bullshit but it also ties in with what JA said about feeling accomplished for beating video game X and one's general approach. Like, I don't know if I even agree with the whole sentiment about early playthroughs, but I get the idea. How much playtime is enough to be a viable critic? What if you have a deadline and other things to do, like, say, a video game journalist? Isn't it a flaw in game design to force you through a dozen playthroughs first until you Stockholm syndrome yourself into liking things? For instance, I still hate Malenia's waterfowl dance (I think I agree with JA that it's "undodgeable" and people just figured something out instead), but I don't hate it as much as I did when Elden Ring had just released. On the other hand, I found myself facepalming when yet another Dark Souls 2 critique showed up in my feed with the creator claiming to be very in-depth and veteran-like. Look, all the achievements (like that means anything)... and then he proves himself to not understand basic stuff like counter damage, making the whole thing "expert" thing fall apart immediately. And the weird thing is, that's technically fine. One doesn't need to have the ultimate understanding and present a flawless dissertation on the thing, but that's what is expected. Instead of a discussion it's about absolutes. Nevermind the discussion after the fact, it's the opening post in a forum thread everybody looks at. The absolute, the hyperbole.
@@blackmanwithcomputer Sekiro was already a complete experience. If there was any game that badly needed some kind of redemption arc, it was DS 2. The DLCs took it from a black sheep to a respectable, if not entirely worthy part of the Souls franchise.

The TW3 video has been split and scattered between multiple videos and we need to piece them together to get the whole thing. Now THAT's a shattered masterpiece.
Your point about Bethesda being on top of the world post-Skyrim and insulated from all criticism is crucial. It can happen to any studio, including From, and zealous fanboys contribute to it by shutting down nuanced discussion. Good video.
Even before Skyrim they were already insulating themselves from criticism to games like Oblivion and Fallout 3. Those games were already showing massive cracks because of all of the dumbing down and simplication. Oblivion is just a much worse Morrowind, a lot of stuff removed or oversimplified from the latter. Fallout 3 is a genuine horrendous game: awful shooting mechanics, atrocious writing, abysmal main quest, shallow RPG elements, mostly bad quests with no depth, and the complete lack of care with the lore and rules from the previous two games. Skyrim went even further in the dumbing down and oversimplification, it has more in common with a fucking Call of Duty game than an actual RPG. People claiming that Bethesda started going bad with Fallout 4 are genuinely wrong. People only have appreciation from the games post-Morrowind and pre-Fallout 4 because of massive nostalgia goggles and the fact they had no context and framework to understand why those games were significantly worse than previous titles. To many people one of those games was their entry into the RPG genre and thus they have an irrational emotional attachment to that game that makes them purposely ignore all the major flaws. People need to learn to stop having nostalgia blinding them, it's fine to not like a game you played when you were a child, it doesn't make your childhood invalid or pointless. And i think New Vegas existing made them look even worse. New Vegas has its fair share of issues (horrid launch state, the gameplay is mostly bad because it's the same from Fallout 3, graphics have aged like milk), but it showed that you could make a game in the same style as Bethesda but have actual depth. Actual deep roleplaying mechanics like the dialogue system, meaningful choices during quests, and a good variety of skills and perks. The fact that New Vegas was made before Skyrim should have given at the time of its release enough reason for people to realize that Bethesda actually kind of sucks and their games are getting worse and worse. But instead people gobbled up Skyrim because of an insane amount of hype and huge marketing push, making it so that a ton of people had to force themselves into liking the game.
The developer intended way is that there are a bunch of different ways to deal with it. Hitless runs isn't developer intended, that's a challenge run. You CAN hitless it, you CAN perfectly dodge it, but there are countless other ways to handle it.
Freezing Pot to the face! Is my go to "dodge" ... Alternatively, if I am really not feeling Malenia, I have a chain poise break setup that basically lets me skip a phase.
Joe, the writing and editing in this video are at a whole other level, it really feels like you've found a perfect groove of snark, puns, and good pacing, and really distilled your voice as a creator into its best form. Good shit
This is the essay style I want. TH-cam is a platform full of pratfalls and people screaming at the camera to make sure you didn't miss a joke. Joe serves it up fast, dry as jerky, and is already moving onto the next thing by the time your brain figures out what just happened.
It's not input reading! The game just instantly reponds to the animation... that you inputed. Some people on Reddit legitmately think that's a gotcha and that the game is beyond any criticsim.
@@grayestrat No it's definitely bullshit. Getting punished for healing or starting an animation just as u do is a trash way of adding difficulty. It's not fun and sadly, some dlc bosses have this problem as well. Gaius is the worst fucking culprit of this.
I think it fits reqlly being the final boss of the final souls content we will get for the series for years. Like how gael or midir was for ds3. After years of playing other games and coming back to it I would find it nostgilic. However if the next game they make is every boss is on the same level of Radhan, I would quit and play games that are actually made for that kind combat, like black myth wukong. Or my 80th playthrough of dmc 5. Or ninga gaiden.
I can guarantee that you weren't jumping enough. Think about the other DLC bosses, hell, think about the Furnace Golems. What did they teach you? They taught you that jumping is an important skill for the DLC. Every boss has multiple jumpable moves and Consort is no different. Once you figure out what those moves are, every boss becomes a full factor easier. Take what you learned in the DLC back into the base game and you'll be laughing at how painfully easy the base game is once you start using all of the tools available to you. The Consort fight is and always will be hard. But it's actually a lot of fun once you stop handicapping yourself by ungluing your finger from the dodge button.
The most vexing thing about "git gud," is it just started as a joke because quite frankly, alot of problems new people had with the souls combat is just not being used to the souls combat. So the meme started because any advice was basically "I mean... you suck, you're supposed to suck, you just started playing. Play more, you learn more, you stop sucking. You get good." I think the reason it got so insufferable in elden ring was the community grew and the old hats who used it ironically were divided into people who dropped it or people who trolled with it and the new smug bastards that picked it up did so cause "they got good" and like being able to put people down. Either way the meme has evolved into something meaner and it's sad. It used to be a little community in-joke and now it's actually just a plain old insult.
Nah, don't blame new players. Fromsoft fans were a toxic cesspool even before Elden Rings release. They spent the entire week before Elden Rings release doing nothing but shitting on another game because it dared to release within one week of Elden Ring.
souls fans are kinda the reason I didnt play any til 2019 and my first was Bloodborne, the community and particularly some friends were always harping on about how its hard and it wants you to have a bad time but you just gotta git gud. I was like why would I ever want to play something like that? the answer 99% of the time to that question was literally 'git gud' I had technically played a bit, a friend made me complete the DS1 intro and at his request I chose firebombs and after figuring out the controls legit beat Asylum Demon first try, like the speedrun strat basically. but stopped after that because I was like "I thought this was supposed to be hard, its just kinda obtuse, feels like im playing a solo mmo im good." then I kept trying to figure out why people liked it so much (this was before i found the mountain of essays on the series) wanted to engage but so often I was told "well if its too hard for you git gud" when that wasnt even really my issue, i just wanted to know why I should bother with a game that from what it sounds like; doesnt want to be played. motherfucker explain to me why I should play it?!
Regarding toxicity: I never seen an effort so Big for Some people to disregard not only a Fromsoft Game, but their fans as well, with Elden Ring. Saying masterpieces like that if you prefer ER bosses over other bosses, Idk, DS3 is the biggest example you get A: You have never played another Fromsoft Game before B: You were playing with overpowered bs and that doesn't let you know the "truth". C: You are a fanboy without any criteria. This obviously come with an unpleasant back and forth for people Who actually enjoyed ER as well. Personally, fighting over which Game is better (spoilers: is subjective) is one of the lamest things anybody can do, and is painfully common to see after ER release, from both old and new players. Regarding git gud, yes, this is very annoying. You can dislike a Boss fight and is not always because you find It difficult and you need to get better. Specially with the Radahn debate. There are things that genuely needs to be addressed, and things that needs to be called out. In order to give feedback, nothing else. No Jhonny, receiving an attack using my exact same roll timing roll as before because I was on an arena bump is not an skill issue.
Great video as always Joe but I have a couple criticisms 1 I understand the fan base might be annoying but I feel like you spent a bit too much time talking about things outside of the game. 2 I understand that you’re not into the lore but I think that you didn’t mentioned an aspect that dragged a lot of the bosses down for myself and a lot of other people: the presentation. A lot of the more mechanically interesting bosses like Rellana are a lot less memorable because you don’t know anything about them when you first step through the fog door and don’t even have cutscenes. This made the fight seem like an npc invader or dungeon boss that has a fun move set. Compare this to a base game boss like radahn who despite not being the most fun fight has an excellent set up with cutscenes, npcs talking about him and paintings of him all around the map. If you read this comment Joe, good luck with the Witcher video and thanks for considering feedback.
“Even the lore people seem to be disappointed in the DLC’s ending because there was nothing there, and they’re usually the champions of seeing so much when there’s nothing” 😂
@@LordBackuro I mean tbf imo it recontextualizes a lot of the base game. We find out what's the deal with Miquella and The Greater Will, the history of the Golden Order, Crucible and even Marika herself. I think the fact there's not a big cutscene after Radahn is what sets """"lore""" people off.
The issue with From's story telling is that it makes no sense contextually how our characters just happens to know about these things. We pick up a shoe and by somehow 'reading it' we telepathically know the tragic backstory of the guy we just looted it off. I love these games mechanically but their stories are all build up and no pay-off, their reliance on lore has gotten stale.
Hey Joe, my mother has passed recently and this video has brought me some joy throughout these trying times. Watching bits and pieces of it in the little free time after taking intensive care of my mother in her last days had brought some joy to my heart. I can't wait to watch the next review.
This is far and away the best critique you've ever produced. I think you're at your worst when you start dissecting the asinine minutia of a game and miss the forest for the trees. But for the most part this review got to the core of FromSoft, Elden Ring, and the fan bases strengths and glaring issues. IMO the most important and challening job of a critic is turning often hard to grasp sentiments into well-thought out ideas and critiques. I think you killed it here. Good shit dude.
He'll just use the top strat vs Consort Radahn tho' - greatshield & poke. Don't need to dodge when you have a large cult eating up everything you do standing between you & any critique.
I find it a bit weird to act like Miyazaki doesn't take criticism. Like sure fans can be annoying, but that doesn't mean he himself doesn't listen. @@Romapolitan He prolly takes it less than one would expect tho'. Doesn't matter how broken and awkward something felt, u just had to "git gud" and overcome it. Not sure I can think of other studios who have this luxury cause I can think of many who'd have gotten absolutely roasted for even some of the flaws base game ER has, and they certainly wouldn't have gotten things like 10/10 storytelling or quest design with what they did - at this point for instance, I rly think they should hire some decent quest design & writer teams. Reading item descriptions for lore is nice, but come on ,games like Dragon Age did that and way more in 2009. And they're not a small budget studio anymore, they can more than afford it now.

Many Souls Fans who were Fans prior to Elden Ring have many issues with it. And it feels like even the Elden Ring only Fans have issues with some parts of the DLC, so its not really an unpopular opinion.
I honestly think a better motto for the series/fandom than "Git Gud" that would express the same sentiment but without the air of asshole-ish elitism would be Laurentius' "Don't You Dare Go Hollow" from DS1, an acknowledgement that the journey can be grueling, but that perseverance is key, and that you're not alone in your struggle. Less gatekeeping, more camaraderie. Maybe there are circles that already do this, I (thankfully) am not 100% immersed in the discourse from the fandom, but I felt like tossing that into the ring.
the ds1 community does this, so does the ds3 and most parts of the elden ring community. besides that I also don't think 'git gud' is as mean as people make it out to be. sure it's snarky and slightly elitist but it's also a challenge. get your head down and LEARN. get good. and once you beat the boss or the game or whatever you can look back and see that it was encouragement. These games are hard but the satisfaction of beating a boss only works if they're hard. Git gud is encouragement to face the intimidating challenge. The final rant was goddamn perfect.. even the parallel with Bethesda's past is something i thought about and hoped for long to not see happen. Luckily i don't think we're quite there yet, and overall (despite the still present toxicity) nowadays the atmosphere in general seems to be less hostile toward criticisms, unlike during the Oblivion/Skyrim days when...it was legitimately almost unheard of to find people with a decently big platform willing to criticize the company, and most of the criticisms would come from a handful of posts on the official game-dedicated forums. In general, however, i think that the main issue that we don't see is that...Fromsoftware has never been super comunicative/responsive to feedback when it comes to the western audience, and that may be a consequence of them having barely any fandom outside of Japan before the Des/Ds1 days. From the little i've heard they tend to comunicate/engage quite a bit more with Japanese influencers and comunity members..we just don't really hear it on this side of the comunity tho, and i can only hope that the people they are in contact with give as good a feedback as this, and don't delve into just ass kissing.

Agreed! His thoughts about the role this mindset has played in insulating FromSoftware's developers from constructive criticism and how it hurts these games by dominating the discourse around them felt exceptionally insightful.
Man. That last chapter could apply to so many games at the moment. Helldivers 2's devs and community seem to be going through exactly what you've described almost exactly as you've desceibed.
Yes. The insane cope is unnerving. The devs are taking away all the fun and the players keep lapping it up. Helldivers 2 should have been a barren wasteland after the Sony fiasco, but it's haemorrhaging players anyway. I've seen a very informative video on how almost every weapon requires you to overkill because the damage is 5 under the threshold. or how the damage dropoff starts the second the bullet leaves the barrel, so if an enemy has 60 HP and your base damage is 60 HP it's mathematically impossible to kill the enemy in a single shot.
I wouldn’t say Helldiver’s 2 is going through the same thing. The fans and the overwhelming negative reviews on steam do show that the community doesn’t like what the devs have done to the game.
So many games, it's not even funny. It's like standards have been consistently lowering due to people being used to the new status quo. It's wild to think that 15 years or so ago people were absolutely pissed at horse armour dlc, and now there are people defending pre-order practices just because "this developer is different"
@@raven75257 I still can't believe that back then I was sure that all the outrage over preorder incentives (and a slew of games that overpromised and underdelivered, making people regret those incentivized preorders) would have pushed the practice out of the industry within a few years. Guess that was naive of me given how much money industry execs stand to make from them, ensuring they would stick around. Now even studios I otherwise enjoy are adopting stuff like cutting content out of the base game and turning it into day one preorder/super special bonus addition DLC - and while I'm sure it's a directive from the higher ups in many cases, it's still a shame how normalized it's become
I'd like to add in a point to the some bosses being too frustrating to learn argument: I think the healing flasks stop scaling too soon. It feels like they stop scaling for around 40 vigor, while 60 seems right for endgame. Meanwhile damage just keeps scaling. The result of this is that you know have to heal twice for every fuckup, and effectively your error quota is cut in half compared to midgame. It honestly feels like they just adopted the scaling cap from DS3 where damage is more modest, and never adapted it properly to ER.
Ya i always felt that healing flasks heal too little like half the health bar should be the norm like it is in sekiro we can still achieve that by using talismans but that shouldnt be excepted
@@evilfungas I could deal with less, half as less even, if they'd also halve the time it takes to use them, because as it is it rly feels pretty outdatted where the bosses keep getting dialed up, and build/tool/fancy new stuff wise, you can also dial up so in that sense it's fair but the base core movements & mechanics like... healing? These just have remained that way, and they're struggling to keep up while feeling satisfying to use, or learn with. No worse feeling than chugging during what you THOUGHT was an opening, or waited too long to be sure it's safe then realize u well... waited too long to safely heal, only to be caught in the "chug > get hut > back to square 0 > chug > get hit > back to 0". “In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.”
That line about fanboys never having real authority figures in their lives, and the game becoming their “surrogate parent” was so scathing. You really popped off with that one. Great video
The last section was cathartic. I was always hung up on your style of criticism but watching your streams was enjoyable. 0/10 where tf is the Witcher 3 video.
It’s the truth imo ds3 bosses are overrated in 2024 I beat almost every one first try on my replay and felt nothing, elden ring bosses will always challenge me and I know difficulty doesn’t = good bosses but what’s so impressive about the ds3 boss line up especially the base game is alright at best
I assume he ignored Sekiro, because there is no way any boss in Elden Ring can content with Isshin, Owl, and Genichiro. But that's a different combat system, so make Joe just meant "best roster from the "souls-like" combat games".
@@Jbswe You're getting too far ahead with what he said. Ds3 bosses are still excellent. It doesn't matter if they're easy or hard because they were well designed, and that's the MAIN thing that matters. Ds3 bosses are great because they are mostly all mechanically satisfying. They all have a flow to them that's consistent and that game has the best hitboxes in any souls game. Demon prince is the best duo boss they've ever made and gael is still arguably the best humanoid fight they've made.
The way you talk about learning boss fights in these games really makes me think you'd like fighting games! The process of seeing a move and going into Training Mode, setting up the cpu to do the move, then seeing what kind of punishes you can do depending on how you respond is one of the core ways of improving as a player there.
it sucks how disconnected it is from the base game. like why can't i burn the scadu tree with the frenzied flame? why doesn't leda recognize you're working with ranni or the freznied flame or whatever.
@@maxs.6517 Not big, but in some ways. Dark Souls 1 - New cutscene for Sif if you did the DLC early Dark Souls 2 - New ending when collecting all the three crowns (though not sure if they added that to the game or just the Scholar version that already has the three DLCs) Dark Souls 3 - New dialogue when the lady for the Dark Lord ending is still around Of course, not big changes (except for Dark Souls 2), but still small changes. A few lines of dialogue would already be enough. Then again, Elden Ring is a lot more open so it's probably harder to do that. Main thing I felt lacking was that you could be the Lord of Frenzied Flame and it has no effect on Midra.

It's fake? Thank God. I was worried I was using too many bananas.
@@Laphi_desu Another trend in replies is the "Just because you x, doesn't mean y". Mostly used by the pokemons who retained their ability to speak, usually to shift blame to player.
It's like a message template from the game itself. "Just because you edge, doesn't mean you don't have the right."
"This."
Btw, it's actually a real post
Concerning the last bit, I was reminded of the first few opinion pieces and reviews that came out shortly after the DLC released and how they basically all had the same little speech. "To be clear, I think this is the best DLC ever, at least a 10/10 and I worship it daily. I do have some minor nitpicks with it though, like [list of points that may or may not be valid], but as I said this is just my irrelevant little opinion and the DLC is the greatest thing ever. Please don't murder me."
I find it a bit worrisome even if toxic behavior is obviously not confined to Fromsoft games.
This might be the first time I've ever seen a TH-cam account have a second health bar appear

Maybe the Witcher 3 video were the friends we made along the way
the videos that had spliced witcher 3 footage he made along the way*
The TW3 video has been split and scattered between multiple videos and we need to piece them together to get the whole thing.
Now THAT's a shattered masterpiece.
The nonlinear joke had me literally say "that bastard" at the screen, but it's not in a bad way. Good to know you ain't dead.
Never ask a man his wage.
Never ask a woman her age.
Never ask an Elden Ring player what the developer intended way to dodge waterfowl dance is.
Who needs to dodge, just hold l1 with a shield
The developer intended way is that there are a bunch of different ways to deal with it. Hitless runs isn't developer intended, that's a challenge run. You CAN hitless it, you CAN perfectly dodge it, but there are countless other ways to handle it.

I smile
Favorite dlc boss is Bayle too lol
My opinion of the final boss is that he's super cool, amazing awesome and i never want to see anything like it again for the rest of my fucking life.
Very impressive experimental fight! I hope Fromsoft never does one like that again!
Bed of chaos still the gaot
I'm glad they did one, but positioning that one anywhere except "the true final superboss of Elden Ring, Specifically" would be a mistake.
You get good."
I think the reason it got so insufferable in elden ring was the community grew and the old hats who used it ironically were divided into people who dropped it or people who trolled with it and the new smug bastards that picked it up did so cause "they got good" and like being able to put people down.
@@Amaror2Kind of ironic pointing out that x is toxic.... by being toxic.
souls fans are kinda the reason I didnt play any til 2019 and my first was Bloodborne, the community and particularly some friends were always harping on about how its hard and it wants you to have a bad time but you just gotta git gud. I was like why would I ever want to play something like that? the answer 99% of the time to that question was literally 'git gud'
I had technically played a bit, a friend made me complete the DS1 intro and at his request I chose firebombs and after figuring out the controls legit beat Asylum Demon first try, like the speedrun strat basically. but stopped after that because I was like "I thought this was supposed to be hard, its just kinda obtuse, feels like im playing a solo mmo im good."
then I kept trying to figure out why people liked it so much (this was before i found the mountain of essays on the series) wanted to engage but so often I was told "well if its too hard for you git gud" when that wasnt even really my issue, i just wanted to know why I should bother with a game that from what it sounds like; doesnt want to be played.
motherfucker explain to me why I should play it?!
Regarding toxicity:
I never seen an effort so Big for Some people to disregard not only a Fromsoft Game, but their fans as well, with Elden Ring.
Saying masterpieces like that if you prefer ER bosses over other bosses, Idk, DS3 is the biggest example you get
A: You have never played another Fromsoft Game before
B: You were playing with overpowered bs and that doesn't let you know the "truth".

Great video as always Joe but I have a couple criticisms
1 I understand the fan base might be annoying but I feel like you spent a bit too much time talking about things outside of the game.

“Even the lore people seem to be disappointed in the DLC’s ending because there was nothing there, and they’re usually the champions of seeing so much when there’s nothing”
😂
True
Being a Lore Whore, the DLC was somewhat weak on some aspects of the Lore. Where the main game, was somewhat better at.
If only From actually committed to a story instead of relying on half-arsed lore and included actual characters that got good development.
Facts

This review was intentionally delayed so Miyazaki couldn't dodge criticism it presents on reaction.

@@Romapolitan He prolly takes it less than one would expect tho'.
I mean, him & FromSoft, have been conditioned by the fandom to be praised for everything they do and every issue fell on to the player to "git gud" and overcome it - it became a genius formula in that sense.
The last Witcher 3 critique was the best video on this channel!

2. This is why I never want to associate with the community, a bunch of randos that think beating a game makes them special and that their perfect studio can literally do nothing wrong

It's not like these people are saying saying 'you're a shitter at the game'.

@@Strazz217 you likely played into the SF hate, which went post-truth REAL fast, so you are just as much as to blame since influencers don't influence without an audience to regurgitate the prescribed opinion.
From the little i've heard they tend to comunicate/engage quite a bit more with Japanese influencers and comunity members..we just don't really hear it on this side of the comunity tho, and i can only hope that the people they are in contact with give as good a feedback as this, and don't delve into just ass kissing.

so happy to have another video from you!! really miss you're content!! hope there is more to come in the future
It can even apply to Joe himself!
Funny, I feel like the game gives you far too many flasks by the late game.
This shit drains your flask supply like crazy anyway, while feeling absolutely awful, so might as well have it usable less, but more effective.
Damage negation effectively boosts your max HP. The Ritual Talisman specifically is a great option to negate hard hitting attacks.

You Deserve To Live in Moncton For What You Have Done
Hello Joe 😎
Not all heroes wear capes
Joe needs to pin this
Actual comment of the year
I heard Joe got a dog pregnant through IVF
"you deserve to live in Moncton" is too fucking far
The best part was looking at the live chat when the toxic part of Joseph's fanbase, waiting desperately for Joseph to hate on the DLC, heard him saying that he loved the DLC.
Or the mfs who really come to a fucking video premier to hate on Joe. It's crazy

Great video

Love the video as always, that last 20-30 minutes was hella satisfying to listen to
The last section was cathartic. I was always hung up on your style of criticism but watching your streams was enjoyable. 0/10 where tf is the Witcher 3 video.
“The DLC has FromSoft’s best boss roster, even better than DS3’s.”
This take from Joseph was even more surprising than Radahn being the final boss.
44:15 and next 15 seconds were the most unexpected things he could say LOL
I assume he ignored Sekiro, because there is no way any boss in Elden Ring can content with Isshin, Owl, and Genichiro. But that's a different combat system, so make Joe just meant "best roster from the "souls-like" combat games".
That wasn't his full statement. He said, if you included friede and the ringed city, ds3 was still better.
Those Skyrim mods are getting crazy now. I almost thought Joe’s footage of Nintendo games were ACTUALLY from Nintendo games. That’d be weird.
The way you talk about learning boss fights in these games really makes me think you'd like fighting games! The process of seeing a move and going into Training Mode, setting up the cpu to do the move, then seeing what kind of punishes you can do depending on how you respond is one of the core ways of improving as a player there.
Brilliant stuff. You're rapidly becoming my favorite video essayist. Thanks for all your hard work, Joseph.
The biggest crime of this DLC was to blueball me from getting another ending when going back to the base game.
it sucks how disconnected it is from the base game. like why can't i burn the scadu tree with the frenzied flame? why doesn't leda recognize you're working with ranni or the freznied flame or whatever.
@@selah6778 Leda wouldn't have recognized it regardles due to being under the influence of Miquella, but I get your point..
Has a fromsoft dlc ever effected the main game?
@@maxs.6517
Not big, but in some ways.
Dark Souls 1 - New cutscene for Sif if you did the DLC early
Dark Souls 2 - New ending when collecting all the three crowns (though not sure if they added that to the game or just the Scholar version that already has the three DLCs)
Dark Souls 3 - New dialogue when the lady for the Dark Lord ending is still around
Of course, not big changes (except for Dark Souls 2), but still small changes. A few lines of dialogue would already be enough. Then again, Elden Ring is a lot more open so it's probably harder to do that. Main thing I felt lacking was that you could be the Lord of Frenzied Flame and it has no effect on Midra.
