you can use any interface from "inside" that usually has permit rule to that traffic .
the idea is you want the path between your pc and the ASA not denied on the ACL.

Quick Questions, if i update the asa and asdm, will i lose previous configs? like crypto maps, transform sets, access lists, isakmp policies, routes, network objects, etc?

it depends ...... you should check the commands that is compatible with both versions . but i guess if you have ipsec tunnel , it will be still working on 8.2 and 8.4 .
remember always take a backup from config and ios before and after .
