I knew a security guard who worked the Boston Tea Party back in the late 60's. He watched their warm up and was shocked, he said that in this warm up the drummer was yelling, screaming and growling while playing warm ups. He was still shocked telling the story decades later, and described him as an animal.

During this era there were so many great drummers. Bonzo, Ginger Baker and Keith Moon just to name a few. Most of them were heavily influenced by great Jazz drummers like Buddy Rich.
How could you have listened to so much Zep and not noticed Bonham driving the train back there? All those funky beats in so many songs... I'm speechless.

Led Zeppelin 1 album shows that! He is 21 at this gig. There was a number with an extended drum solo in almost all LZ concerts from the beginning - sometimes they were over 1/2 hour long. This song was originally called Pat’s Delight for his wife Pat, his son Jason called it Moby Dick, because it was his dads big song. Bonham married his wife Pat in (1966), they were high school sweethearts. Pat has never remarried, & still lives in the house on their farm. RIP John Henry (Bonzo) Bonham, millions of us still miss you.

I know Bonham hated being on the road and away from his family. I've also read that he really didn't want to tour America in 1980 before his death. I've wondered if he had lived, if he would've refused.

You can hear the 80’s, in the album In Through The Out Door, what was done more by Plant & JPJ. I haven’t read any of the books, I’ve learned so much watching all the interviews, by each of them & about them. There is some things I don’t believe, I don’t believe all the bad crap said about them, I’m not saying they were angels. I think since they were more mysterious, lies were told too.
He’s playing with no sticks, just his hands. By pushing on the edge of the drum skin you can bend the drum sound with one hand. For a better view of this Bobby Rondinelli with rainbow does an epic drum solo and you can see clearly how it’s done.

Honestly they probably didn’t let John cook enough… Granted he cooked throughout every single track beginning to end, but live Zep doesn’t have a lot of iconic drum solos. This isn’t a critique, it’s just a fact. 2nd favorite band ever after the Beatles.

September 25th 1980 so very sadly John Bonham left us, because on September 26th 1980 God wanted to start drumming lessons.
100% Bonzo is the best drummer of all time. His son Jason is pretty awesome too.
