Royce Gracie converted to Islam about a month ago. He didn’t mention it here but when he says things like “discipline” he is referring specifically to the Dagestanis religion giving them that discipline and structure.

I doubt he swam across Tampa Bay. That is a 24 mile swim and the above average swimmer swims about 2 miles per hour. Over distance that is a very hard pace to keep. The fastest time across Tampa Bay is just under 10 hours.
From Fort the Soto to Bean point Beach is around 6 miles. I would already consider that to be swimming across Tampa Bay.

I used to think that Royce was just a arrogant guy. I now know that Royce is a mindset. The respect that he deserves is out of this world. Most of us will never be in a physical fight in our lives. Royce never thought he would lose a fight no matter who he was fighting. That’s a special fighter. Weight class, what’s a weight class?

I don't know, starting MMA at 18 is going to be so hard on the body if you start competing at that age. These days many MMA guys don't spar as hard as they earlier fighters did but if your fighting 3 to 4 times a year for 3 or 4 years it going to take a toll very early.
Its the wrestling thats better. As a sport wrestling is intense and there is 0 respect for training partners. You wrestling tough every time you step on the mat. In jui jitsu you have the option to be a lazy fucker, or even to have the option to be more strategic which means less time going forward and more time to lounge around and figure a path to win. When you combine the wrestling with submission like sambo does, its makes for an easier transition into MMA as you have fighters used to the intensity of going 100% everytime which adapts to other parts of the fight game.
What about ADCC to your arguments?
This guy will never give them the credit they deserve. Sambo is a more combative discipline than BJJ.

That Tampa Bay swim story is the type of thing that will get someone killed. Just dumb and unnecessary. Same thing as that 41-mile run to train for MMA, absolutely ridiculous.

Old school guys did things differently. Royce, like the Diaz brothers, is an endurance guy. Its no more ridiculous than the weight cuts that fighters do today that almost kills them.
@@greasebob actually it is a lot more ridiculous given that they were in the middle of the ocean swimming at a random time with no medical support. If a weight cut or organized endurance event goes south then it’s easy to get to a hospital. But to just randomly decide to jump in the middle of the ocean and swim for hours is actually quite stupid and irresponsible. They wer not training. They were not competing. It was just a show of bravado for the adrenaline rush and bragging rights. 100% idiotic.

These guys are amazing but I feel MMA gyms in America are too expensive for the lower middle class and poor, you get gyms into those places I guarantee you Americans will catch up real quick.

On top of this they were at a GYM with THREE UFC CHAMPIONS LUKE...CAIN..CORMIER...who taught them tons of things as can be seen on video with cormier/fitch teaching khabib how to PIN guys better as he sucked ass at pins....so ya it ain't cause their dagi or train in dagiland..its simply that tiny group who were legit grapplers already who got even better AMERICAN training....no other dagi or chech is a champion and america has way better fucking gyms than dagistan.
