Growing up is realising the tale of the Gracie family is just that; a tale. They portrayed themselves as these pioneers of an indefensible martial art when most of bjj was just repackaged Kosen Judo they learnt from Maeda. They portrayed the “Gracie challenge” as honourable combat when most of it was just going around Brazil and jumping people in the streets. The UFC 1 bracket was handpicked by Rorion Gracie to give Royce the best chance of winning. The story of the Gracie family is one of the biggest white washes in the history of martial arts.

    • @baldbull6808
      @baldbull6808 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

I dont know about the brackets. I would have avoided Shamrock at all costs rather than possibly face him in the 2nd round. Boxing was the most feared art and Rovce got that match in round 1. Kevin Rosier probably had the easiest bracket if he had made it all the way.

But Renzo seems me the coolest one. At least nowadays.
I was at a strikeforce event one time while he was there walking around. I had my camera out and was videoing some fighters walking past. He saw me and thought I was taking a picture. So he paused for a second to allow me to take the picture. But after about five seconds I told him I was videotaping. Then he took a step towards me and gave me a fake liver punch all while having a giant grin on his face.
Still made me flinch a lot. Then we both had a little chuckle. I have video to prove it. Lol

It was actually western catch wrestling taught by pro wrestlers to the Japanese from people that competed back when pro wrestling was still real. One of Sakuraba's instructor was Billy Robinson

Jiujitsu is just Judo that wasn't dilluted with Olympic rules. That's why all the basic moves have Japanese names and origins. The Gracie's just stole it and peddled it as their own. Jujutsu or Jiujitsu aren't Brazilian words.

Ever since I was a division II high School wrestler in 1992 I've always loved physical exertion rolling on a mat just engaging with other humans and seeing if we can test each other in a responsible admirable way. Most recently I've been trying to join local Jiu-Jitsu clubs and I feel as if it's a popularity contest more than just a Jim for guys to go sweat

The Cub vs Kron fight was one of the latest examples of the problem even elite BJJ guys have in MMA ie the lack of a strong takedowns.
Has haunted BJJ in MMA for many years.

    I love Cub...
    San Diego warrior. However ☝️....
The Gracie's are a loyalty first tribe even though they get nervy with each other.
If I was gonna scrap a Gracie I would go find all them CATCH WRESTLER'S and be like..
YO JOSHY BARNETTY TU TA SEXY...HELP ME OUT.
Then when the fight was over I would be friends with them again! 🤷‍♂️

Cub was always introduced by the ring announcer as a jiujitsu fighter, yet I can't remember ever seeing him do jiujitsu unless he was taken down and had to resort to it. He always wanted to keep it on the feet.

That’s such a Brazilian thing… not training a fighter who’s fighting a Gracie. Closing out brackets in elite competition rather than face a teammate. The whole concept of being creonte. It’s not just the Gracie family. When the Mundial was in Brazil, the refs would openly cheat for certain teams and to protect Brazilians.

It's 100% true, this guy has no reason to lie and the Gracie's have dirt on them and no offense, but honor and integrity is hard to come by in Brasil. Many hot headed tiny minded phonies all jacked up on roids.
