    I needed dental work, my dentist game me an estimate of $2500. I took that $2500 bought a flight to Merida, rented AirBnB's, ate food, rode around with Uber, got gifts, went on a 10 hr. day trip to the Mayan Temples & visited a Cenote for swimming and my dental work done. A two week vacation for the price of my dental estimate. All because of what I learned on this channel. ❤

      @@turnovertheleaf5505she got it done in the country that she traveled to. Mexico has excellent Health Care with more reasonable prices. So for the amount of money she would have paid just to get her tooth fixed in the states she got her tooth fixed and had a two-week vacation and it all cost about the same

    I'll try to make a long story short. My son almost lost his life in 2020. He survived with a traumatic brain injury. He had to learn to walk and talk etc. all over again. I was exhausted! He went into a facility temporarily Dec. 2023, I went to Merida for 2 weeks to take care of myself. I got dental work done, enjoyed progresso, made friends and I mentally recovered from my traumatic experience. I could recover due to what you taught me on your channel. I love Merida, the culture and the people! I am working towards a long time stay or retire there. Thank you Cartess!!!!!!❤

      I had a similar experience with my son. The same rehab! Nothing like being told your child will never walk or use his hands again. He’s now 36. I’m semi retired but I do plan on moving to Merida, or nearby permanently within the next few years. Take care

      You're a smart on Paulina. It is good to check out many places to be sure OR you could live a nomad type of life. If you live a nomadic life, then you are 100% mobile if sh(t hits the fan. Hey Cartess I'm so glad you were able to share this information. I'm always worried about my stepson but it's been such a blessing because he's enjoying it there.
    I really hope people will realize that they can have quality of life again. It's been the simple things that I've missed like just being able to process the loss of a loved one or a night to be able sleep all the way through without interruptions. It’s just been a blessing.

    Thanks for this Cartess. Many Americans really dont think Mexico is as advanced as it is. Certainly in Merida that is definitely not the case. The city far exceeded anything we anticipated! Don't think its nirvana its not but as the old folks would say the promise land is not without giants. Step out check it out and see what happens.

    Some valuable words were spoken, especially about being different and getting stares. In my 7 years here, the only racist kind of look I received came from somebody who looked like they were from the States. I hope they went back there. Mexico's welcoming culture is to be accepted and enjoyed, please.

    I worked in nursing homes for almost a decade in the states and it’s a hot ass mess. Even if you’re paying great money you get subpar quality and care. If you are the avg person who can’t pay 9k-11k a month then Medicaid will put you in a crappy facility. I’m trying to convince my mom to come w me down to Mexico so I can help her get into a facility when she needs it cuz I def don’t have 10k a month to pay for facility costs

    I had two cashiers at walmart on Paseo de Montejo look at each other and laugh at me. I know that their is a group of women no matter what the language or location thats going to look at other women and compare themselves and size them up too. It didnt deter us. My daughter and I had the same thing in Playa del Carmen from the women (staring ) at a restaurant location but any feelings about that subsided because we did not know any of them personally. I went on a solo trip to Queretaro same thing. Expats all over the world experience this.

      @@CuratedVibes they weren't always laughing, sometimes starring, and being confrontational doesn't solve anything. The last time I checked laughing or starring isn't against the law. I live in Miami Florida, and I know for a fact there are a lot of immigrants that come to the United States to live and are able to work a job that dont speak English , and I dont confront them about it. That is not my business or my right. It didn't stop us our visits were beautiful and for the most part the Mexican hospitality was great.

    How much on average does an automotive mechanic charge/hour in Mexico or just in the Merida area? I tried searching online but haven't had any luck yet finding an answer.

    • @MoveAbroadandThrive
      @MoveAbroadandThrive  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I don’t know but it’s SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. I remember Robert needing his bumper reconnected (was falling apart and hanging). We pulled up to a mechanic on side of the road. Put it all back together and charged something like $5 bucks. Got a nail in my tire and had a leak. Another place repaired/sealed the tire and put it back on: $7 bucks

      Hi. Lots of people seem to mention a place called Ideal Dental. They offer virtual consultations as well for about $30 bucks ($590 mxn pesos). I'll include a link to their site at the end of this message. I don't know how long you'll be here but you can find AirBnBs for about $250-$300 week. Food costs is hard to determine as I like seafood and that tends to be more. You'll definitely save a ton on the dental stuff: idealdental.com.mx/

    Years ago, when I was traveling in Oaxaca, little girls and grown women sometimes grabbed my hair as I was passing by. My hair is blonde and curly, both things that were pretty uncommon in Oaxaca 20, 25 years ago. The first time it happened, it yanked my neck, cause I was walking, and this woman just reached out and grabbed a big ol' handful and didn't let go! 😅
