    I got my MK II F last year for $200 new. Put on a Vortex Copperhead 4-12x44 on EGW rail. I am surprised with Eley Target I can get 1-inch groups outdoors at 103 yards.

    I bought a Savage MKII BTV (Boyd's Thumbhole, heavy barrel) for my wife. I was SO impressed with the accuracy she got that a week later, I bought one for myself. Both average under 1/2" at 50 yards with CCI SV ammo. Both also do just as well with Norma TAC-22

    I've done the same project. needed to bore out the fore end of the stock. it was making contact. also bedded the mount. I only shoot cci target but I'm reaching out to 250yards on 4" steel. 80% accuracy when the wind is good.

    I have won a few matches with mine, with norma tac 22. I bought a locking collar as a cheap barrel tuner. Guys that were shooting 1k dollar rifles were just shocked as to how accurate it was. Savage builds a darn fine rifle. I wish I had bought the threaded version because now I have a supressor.

      I've put a couple of shaft collars on a few of my rifles too. Though a Harrell's or E.C. Tuner would LOOK better it's amazing what the collars duplicate/achieve for pennies on the dollar.
      Guess it boils down to are you a shooter or a poser.

    I just shot my 93F no accutrigger and I’m sighted in at 50 yards shooting I was putting them in the hole at the top of your Caldwell target with a vortex 3x9x40. Took it out to 160 yards it was shooting two hash marks low on my scope at that distance. I’d trust it enough to take a head shot on a coyote at 160 yards, yes I’m that confident in my 93f. I was shooting bulk federal 550 purple box. These savages can shoot!

    I looked for a cheaper 22-caliber bolt action rifle that I wouldn't have to do much to it other than change the trigger spring. The RAR fit the bill costing me $400, and a cheap box of 22-caliber ammunition CCI/SV cost me $4.65 per box. Well, I thought that much cannot come from this cheap rifle by Ruger. Range day, boy, I was surprised, that RAR @50 yards five rounds of CCI/SV grouped .55" , here comes mister wind. It did so well, I ordered up Vortex PST 5-25 -Gen II FFP cost me $800 for a $400 rifle. I may upgrade to something better in the future, I shall see.

  • @jacklucas7265

    I have the same rifle and I agree that when properly configured with the right ammo it shoots well. That having been said, I think one would be better off, if cost is not the overriding consideration, that the purchase of a better quality gun such as the CZ 457 is a better buy. The CZ is qualitatively better, especially the trigger, the Accutrigger pales in comparison, and after one adds the cost of the Boyd's stock and trigger guard the CZ is within striking distance. What is more the CZ allows for interchangeable barrels so that one may have three rimfires in one. I think, if cost is a major consideration, the Ruger American may be a better buy because of the configuration of the stock Just my opinion! Good videos!

    • @TheHide
      @TheHide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      On the outside looking in I would agree with you. However I sold a CZ455 Tacticool when I bought this rifle originally and honestly when shooting the IBS style targets this Savage has posted more consistent scores than that CZ did. Granted this is just a sample size of one and would it hold true in most cases probably not. However, for this one rifle I have to say Ill take it over the CZ. Thanks for watching!

    I have mkii fv my question is on the back of the chamber there isn't even a breakage or a chamfer where the bullet goes into the chamber I'm wondering if that's normal or if they skipped an operation when manufacturing the gun because when I chamber a round it just scratches my bullet is it goes into the chamber period and it's a pretty deep gouge that's happening

    I just bought a Savage MarkII FV. The very first thing I did was clean the barrel and bore scope it. It WAS terrible. Burrs in the chamber and hack marks about 17 inches down the barrel. I was very disappointed with Savage. But like you. I am doing a complete make over on this rifle. Including a different barrel. Because with videos like yours. I am sure I can make it shoot. So I have one question. Have you or are you going to bore scope the barrel? I would be interested in what you find. I hope I just have a fluke. Thanks for your video.

      Machining marks are not uncommon on budget produced rifles. Savage is KNOWN for out-of-box accuracy even with all the defects (borescoping causes more dissatisfaction for the average owner than the owner's actual capabilities). Lead lap the barrel before dumping money into a new barrel.

    Good...but......statistically it seems a draw. Of the 3 brands of ammo....it shot worse 2 out of 3 times ( re: "group-size") after the "upgrades". Then , for the accuracy test, using the IBS 50 yd target, it did better. So...OK on that. So all-told, some better, and some worse. We need to then ask....is this all "wash" as to larger-data-lot .....data collection?.....or even, "I shoot it better now with some familiarity?". Was hoping instead for consistent-trends as to improvement.... not seeing that.

      4.5" of maneuverability with the shorter barrel is insignificant in the ranges that small game hunting scenarios generally occur.
      Shorter barrels usually provide 50-75 fps slower velocities per inch, meaning more drop at same distance.
      Study up........
