Hi I was born in 1960 and just started listening to you today and I think you're really awesome. I don't know if this will help or apply to you but I grew up in a house where my parents argued constantly. When I started having relationships they were difficult. I finally realized that because I never had a good example of a loving relationship, I just didn't know how to find peace and love with a partner. Love everything 70's. thanks
I was Born in 1960, I seen all this in real time. You have to understand in the 70s we had different genres, Rock, Soul, Pop, R&B, Funk, Country, Folk, Disco, Punk, New Wave, Rap. Each genre had fantastic music. We listened to it all!!! You can spend the rest of your life discovering music of the past and still never get to it all. Just relax and enjoy the journey!
Same here (Jan. 1960). I did not listen to Disco, rap, punk in the 1970s, except for the rare piece. Plenty of the rest though. This one is just one of those treasures I DID listen to often.
The legendary Al Jackson Jr was the drummer for the track, "Let's Stay Together" as well as the house drummer for the Stax Records House Band a member of Booker T and the MG's. Al Jackson Jr was known as the "Human Time Keeper". As his early reputation in the studio grew, superstars from Aretha Franklin to Eric Clapton began to demand his percussive genius. Rolling Stone Magazine ranks Al Jackson Jr at #9 among it's list of 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time.
so this is coming from some random person that you don't even know obviously.... but my observation of you in the brief time I've been tuned into your channel and paying attention you seem to be a good human being and a good daddy. those seem to be rare qualities these days especially in the US at least. so good on ya, dude.
Al Green (from my hometown) went on to be a minister, so this is good Karma for your family. My soul Mt. Rushmore: Al Green, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye, and Roberta Flack.
Incomparable perfection (and you younglings probably heard it first in Pulp Fiction). Makes me glad to be old and to have heard all these songs as they came out. Soundtrack to a life well lived.
First timer - Al brought me here! Really enjoyed this reaction. That tasty beat was courtesy of the legendary Al Jackson, Jr. who co-wrote this song. He was such a highly-regarded drummer that his nickname was “The Human Timekeeper.”
Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Barry white were 3 popular singers in the early to mid 70s. Famous for their "Baby making music", there are thousands of cultural references in movies and tv referring to these songs and this type of "soul music".
So… Al Jackson Jr. is the drummer on this track. As you go through these songs from the 60s/70s you will hear him a lot. He was a founding member of “Booker T. And the MGs”, the house band at Stax Records. The band recorded their own music as well- Booker T is a master of the mighty Hammond B3. Good stuff at Stax.
Nice choice! The Hi Records rhythm section always kept it beautifully simple and with the Memphis Horns and Al Green's extraordinary voice the label had a string of hits with Green in the early seventies. A lot of great records, I'd recommend "Take Me To The River" which was covered by Talking Heads and others.
The top R&B artist in the early 70s. The chicks would melt when this guy sang. We had so much great music in the 60s and 70s, we could barely keep up with it. Every other day a new song was released. And while I'm primarily a "Rock/Blues" guy, the music in that era of all genres was freaking excellent. Country western, R&B, Pop, whatever, it was "primetime" for all music during that 60s through the 70s period.
Lee: You said that this song applies to your situation & it's probably more than you think. You asked for prayers today & you choose a song by the Reverend Al Green. Yup, he's a pastor too!
takes one back to the Motown era this song , What's going on - Marvin Gaye , I'll be around by the Spinners , PaPa was a rolling stone - Temptations are favs,
I was the night shift in a book store. The manager only like 3 piece jazz. The only CD that wasn’t was Al Green’s greatest hits. I listened to it for a month straight. Pulp Fiction made this song extra famous. Sending warm feelings your way, be good.
The reason it was #1 for so long was simple...it's a great song, sung by a real artist. Why wouldn't it stay there that long?. Maybe todays artists could take a cue from him.
@@L33Reacts ~ I hope you know that you are Not Alone in "learning the hard way." The older you get the easier it will be to realize ... when things start to get hard ~that's when you start looking for the lesson ~ it makes it meaningful instead of difficult. Love to you and yours ~
Al Green's sequence of early 70s albums from Gets Next to You, the album before this, through Explores Your Mind is as good a six album run as anyone ever had. I think Call Me is the high point but each is great. Similar to what Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder were doing at the same time Green would do multiple overdubs of his vocals doing call and response with himself and becoming a one-man chorus. Al Jackson Jr's work with Booker T & the MG's, the Stax Records house band (Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd) is a rabbit hole worth going down, too.
Sorry for ur loss! This is from an era where people could still afford to pay for really great musicians! Al is a superb n archetypal SOUL SINGER!! ❤❤❤
@L33Reacts I'm happy to see you really digging into music and checking out everything. There's some other great soul singers like this. Stay cool. Prayers to you and your family
So sorry to hear you're going thru an emergency. I hope everyone is okay, or will be very soon. Keep up the great work, and thanks for your appreciation of the music I love!
"...let me be the one you come running to..." This generation fails to realize that back then we heard it all & music wasn't compartmentalized as music is now. Too bad. I'm sorry for your loss whatever it was.
SUBLIME IT KILLS ME EVERY TIME. AL GREEN WAS A GREAT SOUL ARTIST, LISTEN TO 'TAKE ME TO THE RIVER', BETWEEN AL AND MARVIN GAYE THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR A WHOLE GENERATION OR AT LEAST THE BIRTH OF A GENERATION.
The drums are fantastic. It's almost a country rhythm, a train on tracks, which is so rare for a beautiful ballad like this, and elevates the whole thing beyond being just a sweet, slow love song. Check out Obama singing a snatch th-cam.com/video/CyfLhKeFe9U/w-d-xo.html - honestly, when are you guys going to get another president with this much style?
You seem to be a stand up dude, but I think your fans would cut you some slack for a brief reprise to the 3D Matrix. Maybe do a personal video for fans. Im sure others can relate. Amazing times. Total strangers sharing a shared vibe. Music attracts like minded ppl. Hang in there. Time does heal. Ok, let the Reverend shine.
Did you hear President Obama sing a line of this song once. He sounded great! Al is unbelieveable! I’m so sorry for your loss. Your family will be in my 🙏.

I'm 67 and this is the wonderful music of my teen years...each time I hear Al Green...I feel 50 years younger! Thanks for the memories!!!

Sorry about your loss Lee. I'll comment about music a different day. Peace
I loved this song when I was way to young to even know what a relationship was, just the voice and music..
An absolute classic. His voice is like butter.
He was a wonderous talent.

The song spent 16 weeks in the Hot 100. It spent one week at number 1.

Gospel marries soul so sweetly.
Baby making music!!
I am a prog/metal/rock guy but I always loved Al Green... Good man... This song was awesome and so is he!
Lee: You said that this song applies to your situation & it's probably more than you think. You asked for prayers today & you choose a song by the Reverend Al Green. Yup, he's a pastor too!
Love this song so much. Extra love to you and your daughter today Lee, you deserve it. ❤
Talk about a smooth, sexy, and sultry song.
Gotta love the Reverend Green
Reverend Al sooo smooth!

My husband of 40 years was my best friend. I think thats the key.
"Love and Happiness" is another great tune by Al Green you would like.
Timeless gorgeous song
Al Jackson is one of the best drummer.

When we lived in Memphis she did his securities and my son has his autograph and is says Love and Happiness ♥️
You are a very wise young man. 👍💪🤟
Thank you, my friend. I really appreciate that. I learned the hard way. Lol

Dam that guy could sing
blessings to you and yours...Al is the God father of love..and he became a preacher..
He's a preacher too? Wow. That's amazing. I didn't know

Sorry for you and your girl's loss. Music helps me through the bad times....
Thank you Stephen... I appreciate that
Sorry for ur loss!
This is from an era where people could still afford to pay for really great musicians!
Al is a superb n archetypal SOUL SINGER!! ❤❤❤
A decent love song you can easily dance to, with a good singer. Yeah, of course it was a hit.
Try his song “Love and Happiness” he always has great rhythm guitarist. Which are always neglected because most people wants someone who shreds.
While i’m typing this you mentioned you were alone a lot. Try Al Green’s first big hit “Tired of being alone”
Time for Curtis Mayfield: The Pusherman!
Freddies Dead!
Crazy coincidence… I just received his greatest hits CD from Amazon yesterday!
Constantly played this album in high school.
Al is wonderful. Tina Turner’s cover of this is great as well. No reason not to enjoy both.
@L33Reacts I'm happy to see you really digging into music and checking out everything. There's some other great soul singers like this. Stay cool. Prayers to you and your family

Ask and it is given. I will keep you and your loved ones on my prayers. A sincere Namaste.
Great review as per usual you must listen to Al Green’s Tired of being alone
So sorry to hear you're going thru an emergency. I hope everyone is okay, or will be very soon. Keep up the great work, and thanks for your appreciation of the music I love!
Mr Al Green.
This is soul music.
Sorry to hear of your family’s loss 💜💜
I grew up with this fantastic number. (1956). So romantic. Brings back beautiful memories.
Yeah, that's Al Jackson Jr. on the drums.
I loved this song back in the day. I still love this song but whenever I hear it now I think of pulp fiction.
Long version is the best!
This song got a resurgence when it was used in Pulp Fiction.
Sorry to hear Lee. Take care
Gotta do some Tower of Power soon.
You must mean 16 weeks at #1 on the Soul Chart, not the Pop Singles Chart. 16 weeks at #1 on the Pop Singles Chart is unheard of.

President Obama sang this song to Michelle at some function. Such a great song.
I remember President Obama singing this! And He did a Good Job!
We really didn’t hear anything bad , in a way , it was all good
