  • We had an independent expert analyze what happens when you ABUSE a Wood-Mizer sawmill for 16 Years...
We've used it and abused it and barely done a thing for her in 16 years. It was time to give her some love, but also to have an actual expert in sawmills have a close look and truly assess the damage. Meet Murphy!

I believe the true story is a large moose leaned against the LT15, a large Canadian moose. From the kindness of Dave's heart, Jeff and Dave concocted a cover story of Dave's "accident" and protect the moose's honor from blame.
The older milling videos were awesome. Thanks Murphy and Julia helping Jeff maintain the LT15 for another 16 years of quality milling.

We bought a saw mill last spring, and the most use it has seen so far is slabbing out some black cherry logs that were too twisted for lumber. Made great field for the rocket mass heater.

Watched a TH-cam vid on the LT15 and they said when you are finished cutting for the day, crank the blade up to the top. The shock that you are going to replace is a gas shock and if you leave the cutting head down the shock is under pressure and eventually the pressure will leak off making it harder to crank back up.

Greetings from the land of Blaze King, thanks for the video. A buddy had a Wood-Mizer about that size and it worked amazingly well. Good to see they have parts for something that age too, that seems not to be in fashion anymore. Best to you all.

WOW, I was surprised it cost so much for 16 years of use. My Norwood Lumbermate 2000 (same size/price of saw as your LT15) has been milling thousands and thousands of feet of "hardwoods", like white, red and black oak, along with cherry, maple and hickory and many others, since I bought it in 2003. So, that's 21 years of use and it's cost me less than $50.00 in parts over all those years and it's still milling like new. I've NOT had to replace even one bearing in it, I love a quality-built product! SR

That thin stuff would likely make good baskets or maybe even crates. We sold logs to a basket making company called Berlin Box. They supplied all the local orchards with baskets. But they used a big lathe. They cut the veneer logs into about six foot lengths and put them on a big lathe. It was a cool process to watch. I think they are out of business now, IDK. Haven't checked in twenty years. Lol. You can also make wooden CANDLE WICKS with the right woods. They sell them online. I never tried them. If that were an actual what timber folks call a 'veneer' log, meaning no knots, cat faces, and was perfectly straight and clean, buyers pay big bucks for those if they are the right specie of tree..

I can't believe you used a whole log for kindling. You could have cut lumber and sold it, and bought a pile of papers, and still had money left.My family was in the sawmill business about thirty years..and we always tried to get as much lumber out of a log as possible, and saved the slabs for firewood. There was always enough tiny stuff in the slabs for any kindling, but I had a better way to light my shop fires. I got a 5 gal. plastic bucket and dumped a gallon of kerosene or diesel fuel in it, then add a bunch of sawdust to absorb the liquid. When I wanted a fire, I'd just add a small scoop of that sawdust to the stove, pile the wood on top and light. Was an instant fire. There was the slight smell to deal with, but on those cold mornings, it didn't bother me one bit.
