  • A ferocious storm descended upon Lake Powell on June 21st, 2024, unleashing a tempest of unprecedented magnitude.
In the video of Lake Powell during a massive monsoon, captured from Wahweap, you'll witness nature's raw power unleashed upon the landscape. Dark, ominous clouds dominate the sky, casting a foreboding shadow over the lake. The scene is punctuated by rain and dust near Castle Rock and Antelope Island in the distance.
As the camera pans, you'll see the waters of the bay roiling violently under the storm's assault, waves crashing against the shores. Castle Rock stands as a stoic sentinel, battered by wind and rain, while Antelope Island is seen throwing dust into the air as the storm passes over it.
Golf ball-sized hail can be seen pelting the surface of the lake in the distance. The once calm waters are now a chaotic expanse, with the monsoon's ferocity evident in every frame. The shoreline is strewn with debris, and the vegetation sways violently. This footage captures the awe-inspiring and terrifying power of a monsoon at Lake Powell, leaving an indelible impression of nature's might.
I’d recommend all boaters go watch @ExploreWithThor and his very important video if you’ve never experienced a storm on Lake Powell

I've seen 4 footers in the main channel ......Powell is an awesome reminder of how small we really are. 15 trips since 1966. Good times !!🤘🤘

Oh that was a beauty! Such power...yup you were at the right place. Feel bad for the people in tents at Lone Rock, stakes wont work. A micro burst happened a couple years back at LR we were done kayaking and chillin but had to tie off some tents to our truck so the campers tents wouldn't blow away. Talk about sandblasted!

There is so much treasure across the bay of Lone Rock. I remember one happened to us on a camping trip. Storm was through the night and the neighbor forgot to anchor his boat. We woke up and his boat was gone! Found it hitting the rocks over at Antelope Island. I think he learned his lesson.

Too many LP weather stories to share here but one of the best.. we were heading up channel towards the San Juan and got into a storm like this. Big bro was driving the houseboat, we were towing a ski boat. I looked out the back and the ski boat was attempting a pass on the houseboat driven by the wind and waves so bro had to go faster to keep the ski boat behind us. Good times!
Thanks for this great vid :D

Crazy storm. What’s even crazier is what happened up on the San Juan and through the Moab area. Someone was saying the SJ got up over 20k.

i love your vids, the boat exiting lake looks like a skiier, not laker, bigger camp boats are long staged in protected areas, but your perfect example shows the demise of not getting where safely off channel, and might still not exist, ive seen this many miles up lake, over and over, and love the challenge of their violent weathers demise!!!

I came across this video when researching Matthew 5:23-27 and Mark 4:35-41 when Jesus was on a boat in a lake and a storm came that broke over the boat and nearly overturned it, but Jesus slept through it. He woke up and rebuked the wind and everything went calm. I know of ocean storms, but wanted to see what a lake storm looks like. Thanks for sharing this moment. Beautiful scenery.

I was in warm creek as all this was happening and it was a scary time because the storm the wind was just blowing so hard and blue tents and a tumbleweeds in the distance. It was bad.

I was in something like that a few hours ago and it had hundreds of lightning strikes, but I didn’t see even one in that video.

A lot of the lightning was gotten before the storm made it to the lake. I wonder what the deal was.

SO SAD TO SEE CASTLE ROCK SO FAR OUT OF THE WATER. LAST TIME I WAS THERE ON MY JET SKI IT WAS PROBABLY 30 FEET DEEP OF WATER AROUND CASTLE ROCK.
