I Discovered Secret Hideout from the 1800s | Lee’s Ferry, Arizona
I went search for a secret hideout of an old Mormon Cowboy. Al Hu ringtone was a long time resident of Lee’s Ferry in the 1880s. Al had assisted ferryman Warren Johnson with traveling pioneers at Ross the Colorado River.
Al was well known by Buffalo Bill Cody and Robert Brewster Stanton, famous western men who help shape the American West.
I went looking for Phantom Spring an elusive spring named by Warren Johnson in the 1800s. Al Huntington was known to hide out here and ultimately wrote his name on rocks.
We try and discover his signature.

Lake Powell Drought Update | Before and After 2024 Spring Runoff (Antelope)
มุมมอง 10K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lake Powell has finally reached its crest as the Colorado River’s Spring Runoff has subsided. This is called a “Base Flow Period” where the inflows into the lake match the outflows of Glen Canyon Dam’s discharge. All this water is going through the Grand Canyon and heading to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. Lake Mead will be on the rise as the river outlet works "jet tubes" have opened. In this video...

The Bureau of Reclamation is releasing water again! This time it’s not for sediment or beach building events, it’s for fish. Yes, that’s right. The Bureau of Reclamation and the National Park Service are trying to assist the Humpback Chub by disturbing the invasive populations of Small Mouth Bass. As Lake Powell reach an all time low last year in 2023, fish like the small mouth bass have been a...

I "liked" because your perspective is unusual. Showing the enormous difference between today's water level and the previous "normal" level (which I assume was the basis for siting of the Hite boat ramp) proves very useful. I live along the Animas, a tributary of the San Juan. From my humble perspective, it is difficult to imagine the amount of water that flowed past Hite in 1983. And this was only 42 years ago. Thanks for showing these contrasts. Knowing we face a crisis is one thing but seeing the boat ramp and the previous flood levels tens, even hundreds of feet higher is impressive. Nice work.

hite is literally run by a generator, there was talk years ago of closing the facility, i feel lucky to have drivin upriver back when lake was at high capacity, 21' searay holds 80 gallons of fuel, and needed it to navigate the many canyons, a two week trip could allow time required, to see them all, san juan at 75 miles up could still be done with dangling rope marina at mile 50, now thats gone, the marina at hite got towed down to bull frog, which was very close to drying up, leaving only halls crossing, the last time i had the boat on powell was 2017, we were still able to navigate all the way up to hites launch ramp via depth finder, since that trip i just havent had any more interest in low level launching again. back in the '90's i had that boat on lake mead, up in the grand canyon 50 miles to separation rapid, at lake level many different years, the good old days right???

Yá’át’ééh ! My fathers side of the family lives very close to lees ferry . I don’t visit them all the time but the few times I did I would hike around area. I found some rocks that have people’s names on them from the late 1800 century but I could never figure out who they were . The names on the Rock are ( Ed Finney and right below the name it says 1882 ) the second word says ( M w Mills and the date says April 29 1872 or 1878 ) . Maybe you can find something out about them . If not then don’t worry , I enjoyed the video though . I learned something new that my dad’s side of the family would be THRILLED to hear about at our next family reunion .

Even with the flow restrictions & any baffling chambers they may have to slow the water down just a little to not scour the river contours, flush the fish down the river, etc., but it's still shooting out w/ tremendous force! Is it SOP to have one dam allowed to store water one year, and then next season, let the other reservoir have its turn storing water? I wondered if it would make sure everything would kept in working order (pumps, gates, turbines, plumbing, etc.)...weather permitting. Spectacular views! What a great place to go to work each day and take that all in! The 'after' shots really make the river look so happy...like it's fulfilling its purpose. What could be better than that?

Awesome video. In my parents home my mom put up some pictures of my brother, sister and myself at Rainbow Bridge and there was water under the bridge. We were able to jump off the side next to bridge into water. Now you have to walk a ways just to get to where we were able to swim well over 35 years ago. Great video, the before and after is amazing.

There are some engoyable rock climbs on the towers around Hite, on the N side of the tower just north of the gas station, about 5.9 or 10. Doubble drilled angles for rappel, also the large landform between the Colrado and Dirty Devil has a good route on its E side also has good rap anchors goes up the central depresion to Col between N and S summit then up ridge to N summit. Check them out , they are worth doing, also several others in the area.

One of my all time favorite swimming venues. I have often stayed up on the bench in my trailer where the dump station is. Usually less crowded up there than down by the shore. I usually drive my truck down to Wah Weap to do most of my swimming down there. I love swimming out to the line of buoys there, then swimming along them as far or farther than they go - particularly to the south. Nice video. I agree with you about the lake levels. I've seen the lake when it was quite full, and other years when it's been incredibly low. As you say it is a reservoir and varying levels have to be expected.

40+ years on beautiful Lake Powell, kind of miss not seeing the 3-Sisters in the background. As an HS teen worked as a dock hand at boat rentals, for Canyon Tours before Del Webb took over. Saw many of those thunderstorms even did boat rescues when houseboat rentals got in trouble.
