Yeah, there should be offside technology, I never thought of that. One goal that happened in the FIFA WC 14- the player was offside and the ref didn't see that. +ricomajestic Excactly....it won't even take that long. It'll take less than 25 seconds. What are you talking about...it'll take too long? As long as they get it right-that's what matters!
bjehulk...they can just do what is done in the NFL where a coach gets a limited number calls to be reviewed during a game. In soccer there could be a maximum of 2 review calls per team during an entire game. This would prevent repetitive stopping of the game. There is already technology that would review offside plays in real time and would not require the game to be stopped! Imagine how this could clean up the game. If a player is legitimately fouled or if he dives in the penalty area, the play could be reviewed by the 4th official and the correct call could be made. This might eliminate diving by players for fear of getting caught and receiving a red card!
+Carlos Franco the offside rule is a rule of interpretation.. it's not only about being in an offside position. the refs have to decide if he is active in the play...
Jerombolo The argument amongst the critics is if we introduce video replays like other sports it would slow down the game too much, so rather than stopping the game so the ref can watch a replay they use the current system so that the cameras and the tech do all the work and it just alerts the referee if it's a goal. FIFA stated the system must be able to do this in under 1 second to be considered. The 2 systems that passed are the ones that are now used.

+PugsNotDrugs4 That won't work, because this system only uses cameras. And if the puck is under the goalie and the goalie is in the goal with a part of his big protective material, even the cameras can't recognize it.
@@SWalkerTTU i don't know exactly how that one works, but it seems like it works with lights, which in turn would cause the same problems as the other mentioned methods.

thats the thing, the clock needs to be continually rolling, that's a huge part of why this sport is so amazing. I think if they stopped the game after every foul or offside or goal then the game would take twice as long and the game would be completely different.
Whilst i agree that works for many sports, that idea is used very effectively; unfortunately replays take time to analyse and make a decision upon. For stop-start sports like basketball, american football and rugby, that's fine! However for continuous sports with only very short breaks (by comparison), it is important that momentum etc is maintained by a very quick system, such as the ones shown.
I totally agree 100% I really don't understand why they are complicating matters with all this technology. all you basically need is a guy to check the replays
It doesn’t actually work like that goal line tech is only used inside the goal and in the Fifa WC scenario the ball sends signals that tell the VAR room when to check to see if it’s in play or not.
just put a camera or sensor above the goal line, everytime the ball passes that line, the watch says "Goal" 1 sensor and camera per goal instead of a these wires and technology
+Erik Arustamyan or even better install a small go pro inside the goal post so it won't affect balls being blocked and face it towards the other post and also ask the fucking rules to change where if footage shows a goal credit it rather than following the blind af referee
Today in the Premier League, Chelsea vs. Hull posed a challenge to Hawk-Eye. Sure TV replays also could've conclusively shown that the ball hadn't gone in, but the system was able to accurately and *instantly* determine that a goal had not occurred. The key thing is it did its job and still allowed the match to flow, like a football match should. The suggestion of just viewing a TV replay, although it works in other sports, would be inappropriate here.
i was wondering the same thing. there is probably some chip, or something inside the ball that triggers the response. so when an arm or leg or an entire player crosses it, it will not mark it as a goal.
in my opinion before deciding if there was goal or not refs should look at the slowmo replay then decide just like in American football, with this thing you just have more ways to rig the game
What people are afraid of is that replays would slow down the game. But I think they should do it during important games or, more specifically, starting at the 80th minute of an important match while the teams are searching for the winning goal.
Angel Bonilla There was no need for sarcasm. He's absolutely right. Most of American games are usually being reviewed by the referrers in slow motion in order to make a right call. Maan, what an effort. Why not just put 2 slow-mo cams behind each goal and two team members - one from each team - in the catacombs looking at the monitor :D People tend to over engineer
+PennyHerbst You would have to pause play while they look at the slow mo, what if another incident happens between the goal and the slo mo recognising the goal
Pav4n Because it's fucking expensive, goals can't really be moved again, it will be even more expensive, if something breaks, and it's not necessarily a useful effort. Plus, what happens, if referees start to count on this and then it doesn't work maybe one time? Nothing is flawless, but i'd rather have a very small human flaw than a very expensive technical flaw, which makes it lose all it's purpose.
It's not expensive relative for the money that is in football, at around £250K per install and it will last years and years, Premier League officials earn between £70,000/yr and £85,000/yr a year, the system pays for itself in the long run. Goals don't really get moved often, on the rare occasions where the groundsmen change the pitch they are more likely to repaint along the sides of the pitch. You seem to expect the system to have errors, Hawk-eye has been used in tennis for 10 years, and in other sports like cricket for nearly as long, this isnt exactly new technology. Even if Hawk-Eye was to slip up once, it would still be more accurate than a referee, look at all the close calls it has made already in the Premier League without incident. The reason this technology is needed isn't because the job cannot be done by a human, but because the decision needs to be instant, something a human cannot do. The reason it needs to be instant is so the ref can stop the game and declare the goal has been scored. You can't pause the game, or go back at a later time and declare that was a goal and play must be stopped, that's not football.
Pav4n uhm, your calculation is actuallypretty much non-existent. You don't pay more officials only because they need to watch the goals. The pitch is changed almost every year in some stadiums and therefore the goals have to be moved and everything maybe has to be installed again. But you areabsolutely right that the decision has to be instand, sometimes refs don't see that the situation has to be reviewed, i didn't think of that. Well but there still are problems. In football, the pitch is many, many times larger than a tennis court and the lines are sometimes not as visible as in other sports. And how does the camera decide, if it was the ball or just a head, which was going over the line?
You do realise that the ball isnt a magnet right? Its basically a ball version of kinect but has something small inside so the camera picks it up instantly
It's harder to make an instant decision with cameras. You have to watch the replay and decide. Since football time is always going it takes unnecessary time.
+Joel Ayala doesn't matter. The game already is so long and time is wasted on every occassion (throw in's, corner kick, freekick etc). also those situations don't happen really often, so i would rather have a correct decision and play 94 instead of 92 minutes than having a wrong decision and just save two minutes. In the end those two minutes don't matter at all.
the ref is allowed to change his decision.. it happened couple of times in soccer.. if there is a definitive reason to change it.. most recent to memory is kloses goal that was awarded then was cancelled when he told the ref he scored it with his hand.. then the ref cancelled the goal..
In soccer you can't stop play like that. Not only does the game lose its fluidity and rhythm but it can also cause players to cramp up and injuries will be at a higher risk. It works in basketball and football because those are stop and start games, in both sports there are multiple timeouts and pauses at the end of each quarter. Soccer simply doesn't have time to stop like that.
Funny how Football is the most popular sports around the world, and yet sports like Tennis, Ice Hockey, American Football etc. have those technologies and much much more, for years and years. In Ice Hockey, if the referee on the ice makes a mistake, the 2nd team of referees will watch the slow motion reply and correct him if necessary. How come FIFA is so slow in adapting to new technologies? With all the technology we have, we could assist the referee with everything. No more wrong cards, unseen hand ball, unseen fouls, fake fouls etc. It would actually be fair play for once. But nope, let's include human errors, cause it's more fun.
Hobbit Stomper Football is the best and most loved sports in the world. The amalgamation of talent and technology would reduce unfairness in games. FIFA knows more than you so they know how and when to bring new technology in action.
Aidid Rashed First off, there is not such thing as "best" in life. Anyone who uses the word "best" to compare anything in life, is clearly immature. Second, the reason FIFA doens't update their technology, is because FIFA is run by a bunch of 70-80 year old conservative men who are afraid of change. They grew up without technology, and they think that technology will ruin the sport. This way of conservative thinking is wrong. Our world is constantly changing, so we need to adapt to it as well. All the other sports that introduced technology just got more popular and a lot fairer.
the point is that with, say, 3 people on the goal line trying to clear or block the ball, it isn't accurate enough if you can't see the ball to just watch replays. Goal line technology is much more advanced, I'm sure.

You can't pause the game, or go back at a later time and declare that was a goal and play must be stopped, that's not football.

uhm, your calculation is actuallypretty much non-existent.
+Etherion Refs aren't allowed to use replays as confirmation of goals .
A day when football was changed
Why referees when you have cameras ^_^
Keezy .S for fights fauls and giving out cards
You do realise that the ball isnt a magnet right? Its basically a ball version of kinect but has something small inside so the camera picks it up instantly
Why cant they just put couple of go pros in the net?
I know right, it's easier than waiting for two years to have it installed
It's harder to make an instant decision with cameras. You have to watch the replay and decide. Since football time is always going it takes unnecessary time.
+Joel Ayala doesn't matter. The game already is so long and time is wasted on every occassion (throw in's, corner kick, freekick etc). also those situations don't happen really often, so i would rather have a correct decision and play 94 instead of 92 minutes than having a wrong decision and just save two minutes. In the end those two minutes don't matter at all.
i think most football fans would prefer no replays
slows the game down too much
Excellent video. 👍
What is the point of this "high Tech" if the ref can't even change his decision
Exactly
the ref is allowed to change his decision.. it happened couple of times in soccer.. if there is a definitive reason to change it.. most recent to memory is kloses goal that was awarded then was cancelled when he told the ref he scored it with his hand.. then the ref cancelled the goal..
good on him
Abran Alvarez well it just happened in the fa cup final this year
In soccer you can't stop play like that.
Yet in the FIFA games, "Goal-line technology" sucks baaaaaaaaaad.
haha so true
I some times wonder that too, the ball goes out of the line, and instead of a throw-in, the game just continues on.
"it's well over the line" 5 yards away From the line XD
SpacePod9 no on FIFA games it is 100% correct but the replay stops at the wrong moment which makes it look like it wasn't a goal
A great invention
And now, Sheffield United have been failed by Hawkeye’s technology
*Uruguay vs Perú faltó está tecnología, el VAR manual no sirve para los goles*
Del 2013, y estamos en 2022
Well yes, it is more fun
it's a process
yeh in sports u need creativity not a bunch of machines
All the other sports that introduced technology just got more popular and a lot fairer.
its really good technoligy
Haha he is definitely reading that at 6:26
he is TURKİSH referee
Fenerbahçe cs one of the worst referees ever
Why?
the point is that with, say, 3 people on the goal line trying to clear or block the ball, it isn't accurate enough if you can't see the ball to just watch replays. Goal line technology is much more advanced, I'm sure.
Is the referee reading a script? O_o
@Euro 1996 Munteanu(Romania) scored a similar goal(not given) vs. Bulgaria. Romania lost 0-1 with no chance to progress out of the group.
clicked off the video when sepp Blatter came
I think its cool to work in this, work as a football tester
WHO is here after Manchester and tottenhamn 😂
amazing technology.
VAI CORINTHIANS
CAMPEÃO 2012
sometimes the angle of the camera can't offer a good view because player's bodies, arms, or legs are in the way.
