Took an old Hot Wheels Nomad and refreshed it up with with some nice spectra-flame paint and a wheel swap. Also went over the basic's of zinc plating at home!

She's a killer machine/she's got everything
Add 2 small grooves on the ends of the brass tube (axle) for a more stable and lasting fit. (Glue has something more to bite into instead of smooth on smooth)
Gorilla glue is good, I use JB Weld for a more permanent application. The purple was sick and deep and the wheels looked great.

My favorite 1955 Chevy nomad was on tool time.red body white roof.something to concider.
Other than the wheels which I like this is your best pure restoration yet.
One of the best features of the tri-5 era nomads, in my opinion, was the chrome on the back end. It would have been great to see the chrome stripping on the tailgate kept silver (zinc). Not sure how that could be done easily though.

@@DiecastResurrection out of curiosity what does it cost to restore a car. I used to collect but I put it aside and never got back to it. Never thought of restoring them.

Have to say. I love that color!! Oils of been a great car to put a small battery in back and drill out head lights and put small fiber led lights in place.

That purple came out super sweet. If more guys start spraying spectra flame the way you do, we'll be seeing some truly tasty Redlines coming our way. Three blubs up all the way.

@@DiecastResurrectionmost people think I'm crazy but try taking some 12,000 grit to one for a quick dry sand. I'm to the point that unless it's near mint, every new to me redline I add to my collection gets that done before I take any show off pictures. Only figured out that trick because I spray a lot of Createx Candy2o over polished castings. That 12,000 gets me damn near to a mirror finish before I even touch the buffing wheel.
Sweet ride ... my "Old Man" had one of those back in the day. It met it's end at a busy intersection in Portland, Oregon, one fine evening in the mid '70s.
What a shame, those are big bucks now!
If you could get a powder coat painter you could try the chrome paint on a car. It looks as close as I've seen to actual chrome. The paint jobs from powder coating looks flawless too. You know if you had one with some stains on it that might be a way to get it close to factory spectra flame.

Great tech video of the zinc plating process, and the car turned out sweet - purple is an excellent color for large bodied vehicles (like HOK's Burple on late 40's lead sleds). Love those Torque Thrust wheels and wide back tires too! One of these days, maybe you could try one with just a hint of color over the zinc - let the silver shine through. Poor Jimmy however, has seen some better days - think he needs to head over to Floyd's for a guy makeover. Also, 0:45 and 13:32 - you're clearly enjoying the innuendo as much as your viewers!

Damn I remember when I was a kid I used to take my hot wheels apart chance out wheels and scape all the paint off then repaint them with my mom's finger nail polish. Lol. Hot wheels restoring came along ways some of you do get serious about it. Lol.. that's cool love the videos..

So I also want to mention about fixing the redlines that have one hood pin loose because the catch is broken. Do you recommend using the mask over the hood pin and then super gluing a piece of curved paper clip metal to hold it in place? That way the hood should still be able to go up and down.
That's probably what I would do, or else mask the hood and dap some JB Quickweld to hold it in.

With your dedication to restoring Hot Wheels and your expertise, you should keep a set of the Sweet 16 models in a display case mounted on the wall. A Plano Hot Wheels case works good. Was shopping at Kroger's grocery store and found some Hot Wheels Zamac cars from the 50th Anniversary. Some cool looking cars.
