From the UK, love your content! Gives me a great idea and techniques I can adapt for my post apocalyptic cars! Very helpful for my budget of a wad of gum!
Very good video. Full watch. Great demonstration. A lot of time and energy spent. Many times I take apart my work after it did not cure right . I had to learn the hard way to wait it out until it cured fully. Your finish is awesome. Mike Espo .
I feel you. Sometimes there no way around than learning the hard way. Still, it is progress and you can take something away for the next time. Thank you very much Mike!
Guess i gotta try it out then, your tutorials are amazing. recently i made a s13 custom which turned out great bc ur making headlights tutorial helped me
Man, this was amazing. I liked the green one a lot. But more the craftsmanship than the "car design", let's say. That magnet bumper also a great touch. And the paint effect is astonishing. Have you ever tried to do a body kit from epoxy putty? I did do some widebody fenders for a 65 Mustang Fastback that I later painted, etc. but they didn't come out too good. Not sure if not possible with it, or I just didn't let them cure enough. But I was expecting more of a seamless result like yours, and it just looks a bit off. I don't really care since the end result was going to be a key for my bike, and I love it as such, but a bit disappointed on it. Either way, great work, amazing result and super inspiring. Keep it up, bud!
Thank you very much my man! Yes indeed, before the 2K Resin I did all of my widebodys with "Epo Putty" which is basically a 2K Epoxy Clay. Works great and was the material that has been widely used inside the Custom Hot Wheels Community, probably still is. Did you mix it properly? And in what kind of manner did it look off? Does it have an expiry date?
@@themodelcarproject I have no more experience than this work I did, so I can't say I mixed properly or not. I guess I did, because I use equal parts and mixed until it was uniform, but maybe I did something wrong? It was not expired because I had just bought it (although they could have sold it to me while expired, but I don't think so). When I say "look off", I mean it looks a bit grainy instead of smooth, kind of with a couple of strands at places, and even if it was hard I was never fully confident to sand fully, so it kind of still looks like "putty molded with my hand but a bit smoother".
@@JuanManuelTastzian Okay, so didn't you sand it at all or just here and there where needed? And if yes, what kind of sandpaper did you use? (If the grit is unknown, was it quite rough or more on the smoother side, just from the feel of your fingers?) Regarding concerns about curing: When I mix my Resin or Epo Putty, theres always some material left unused. Just keep it, let it react and then you can make a hardness test with your nails or a screwdriver, just to get familiar with the material. If you've already thrown it away, you could mix a (normal, not too small) amount again, just to check how hard it gets. Because some materials are by default a bit softer than others. For example: If I dont put any baby powder inside the 2k Resin, it is very soft compared to the baby powder 2k mix. Hope this helps in some regard!
@@themodelcarproject thanks a lot, man! Really appreciate the tips. Whether they work for me specifically or not, I really appreciate you taking the time here. Keep up the amazing work! ❤️
Thanks my man. I buy my Decals on ebay, try keywords like: 1 64, waterslide decal, decals, or other scales like 1 43 and 1 87 work sometimes too. Carbon Fiber stickers that I've used are made by Tamiya.
Excellent video Sir, may I ask where does one get the resin and hardener that you used in this video-TYIA also I would love to get that same decal sheet, TY- JC -Welcome back
Thank you very much! Resin: I've used R&G Resin, but most of the other resins out there should work as well. Decals: I buy my Decals on ebay, try keywords like: 1 64, waterslide decal, decals, or other scales like 1 43 and 1 87 work sometimes too. Carbon Fiber stickers that I've used are made by Tamiya.
The more you customize and try new mods, the better you will get at customizing hot wheels. If you look at my much older builds, they are made much simpler.
Thank you! I buy my Decals on ebay, try keywords like: 1 64, waterslide decal, decals, or other scales like 1 43 and 1 87 work sometimes too. Carbon Fiber stickers that I've used are made by Tamiya.
would it be possible to use epoxy putty. As I have a packet with a clump of hardener putty and a clump of resin putty (part A + B) on a 1:1 ratio for a wide body kit instead of the resin?
Just in time for my first wide body attempt, I ordered some tamiya putty just waiting for it to come in. Will the 2k work for kits? Didn’t know about the 1k/2k differences and just ordered what looked like it would work ❤
2k is the way to go. 1ks have a very long drying time and usually dont get near as hard as a 2k material. The Difference between them is that 2k materials are always A and B parts which needs to be mixed. 1k is just 1 material, the other "reaction" component is air, to put it in another way. Happy customizing!
Love your wide body tutorial but ive also heard you could use putty instead of resin (ive seen other hot wheels tuners like jakatara use it) is it something you’d recommend?
Yes indeed, before the 2K Resin I've used "Epo Putty", which is basically a 2K Clay. Works good as well, can recommend. Though it is harder to create this very flush stance look, where rim and fender are almost touching, than with 2K Resin.
@@themodelcarproject thank you for the info but would you recommend epo putty for beginners/ simple body kits like fender arch extension body kits (example the fender arch extension body kit for the sultan RS on gta 5 online)
2 questions: 1. Is there a cheap clear coat for hotwheels (that I can use on spray paint) 2. Is there anyone that makes stickers for the cars so I don’t need to paint the lights on (it would look awful)
@themodelcarproject So when I mix the resin and hardener with baby powder, when's the time to carve and sculpt the resin before it hardens for the 5 minute epoxy?
I buy my Decals on ebay, try keywords like: 1 64, waterslide decal, decals, or other scales like 1 43 and 1 87 work sometimes too. Carbon Fiber stickers that I've used are made by Tamiya.
I'm only doing this when I have free time. This was a bigger project + I was making an online shop at the same time, thats why it took a bit longer. But I'm back now, hope you've enjoyed the video!
Bit of complex topic because you need a special printer for this and they are far from cheap. Best I could recommend is just to get some waterslide decals from ebay or Aliex. They are quite cheap, high quality, most of them dont need cut outs and its overall a hustle free solution. But still thank you for your suggestion, I will keep this in mind.
Its important that you use a material, that will get very solid after curing. So im not so sure if you can achieve this with a Polymere clay... some can be hardened in an oven, so maybe you need to try this out.
Have a question what kind of epoxy i can use for the mould... What is it called ?? When i search online i get clear epoxy which is used in table making.. can i use it?
