The fact that the litterbox myth has been propagated for so long bothers me to no knowable end. Even moreso when people fail to point out that it stems from a specific school preparing for school shootings, which is downright awful to need to do to begin with.
I used to be anti-furry, like one of the people that would go to high lengths to state their hate on it. But this summer i got a friend that is a furry, and i changed my stance to being… sorta neutral. But after watching this, I highly respect them.
I used to think furries were like the misconceptions till I started reading about it and found out it was false. Then I met someone who is a furry and they take me, a non furry, to furry events sometimes and the furries are very nice and give me free shit lol so now I get excited about the free stuff but also they do like fun normal events like rollerskating etc and charity drives. I even met scout from the video and they were very nice and gave me a free sticker so yeah they're just normal people like everyone else
I have a friend who was into furry porn (he probably still is, but we haven't talked about it in years), and then I started watching Snuffy and BuffPup and thought "these people are chill as hell". After those experiences, I've been the same, pretty much.
Thank you for making another video on this! The furry community is really just another hobby and it’s incredibly frustrating to see how much of a lasting misconception a single episode on a day time drama show can have. People seem to have forgotten that anime, video games, and tabletop games like DnD were hobbies that got you bullied just as aggressively less than 30 years ago lol
The people in those hobbies accepted their good side and bad side and moved on. Furries are still unable to do so. So many misconceptions extend because instead of dealing with it like adults, everytime furries wanted positive press they throw out whatever they can to look good instead of dealing with the actual issues. you probably can't see it because you're a furry but that looks bad and crooked and people responded in tow. It also helps that many of those others have adult sides and was blended into more naturally. i don't have to worry that i'm going to run into the most grotesque thing like i do with furries for the smallest thing. The truth is you would have nothing to actually say when someone gets the bad end and every furry who are suppose to be nice and kind and helpful won't have any of it. you're instantly a hater and the only thing you can do is apologize you went through trauma and pretend it never happened. some community i'd say.
I'm so glad to see you here!! I unfortunately stopped drawing furries and animals because people would tease me about it, and call me a furry. As if furry was a negative term?? I am not a furry, but I do love the creative characters and designs. It's partially because of my love for all things fantasy! But your channel and others like it have inspired me to continue to draw and be creative. You're awesome, Starberry. Thank you so much for inspiring me and so many others
Furries are pretty great. Not a furry, but every convention I go to, they're always smiling and if they're in a full fur suit, they're really nice. Very creative people. They don't deserve as much hate as they get. Its just a little fandom and shouldn't be hated on as much as they are.
frr i had a friend who has the coolest fashion style and they were also a furry but not like to the extent that it’s off putting and people think it’s weird she is probably the sweetest person i know.
If you notice the trend, furries are typically neurodivergent people who often feel more comfortable when they can express themself in a non-human form. Often we encourage little kids to do this if they're struggling. Why not adults? Like they said theres always gonna be a weird sect of people in a fandom but I've always felt the furry hate to be weird
You felt like the furry hate is weird??? Stop acting like it isnt obvious, and saying that “oh its just adults acting like children” just shows that its childish and any adult that would generally act like a child always gets called out so how is this different
Im autistic and this!!!!! Im not in the furry fandom much (i don't even have a fursona), but i'm heavily interested in it and i can't express how much i understand that it helps! For instance, i have a much better time using online texting methods to talk with people, cause it allows me to think before i write and be sure what i wrote is what i actually mean (i spent 5 mins wording this exact sentence), and also because it allows me to be more expressive without shame. Having a fursuit and a fursona, like, if i imagine myself in a fursuit, it would be a massive comfort. Having a character with whom i can actually be *myself* would be unbelievably comfy. I also HATE that term but its the best way i have to describe it, but the entire concept of furries seem very "neurodivergent-coded". The community is in majority either neurodivergent, lgbtq+ or both. As the person in the middle said, it's a massive safespace. Just a bunch of very welcoming people, performing a hobby that is very comforting for people with autism or other neurodivergences
@@yaminaqeeli5766 Would you make fun of people who buy collectibles, saying only kids can keep toys? No, because collecting something can be meaningful to people. Or actors -- would you say playing pretend is only for kids? No. Especially because being a furry doesn't negatively impact you. Yes it's a strange hobby but these adults almost always process emotions differently. It's weird and negative to shame people for that.
everyone has hobbies and if they arent hurting anyone, then thats your prerogative!! content like this humanizes people we may not relate to. super cool anthony!!
@isaiahcomfort2931lmao what mate. Are you seriously saying that being a furry means you have a mental illness. I think you might have one with that mindset...
I work with a lot of neurodivergent kids and there are some young furries -- most are really emberassed by it and a lot of kids/ teens talk very negatively about furries too. I always try to defend the furry fandom (I was in it at 14/18 and that was back in 2004, I did a lot of artwork for them) But there is this narrative amongst young kids too that furries are cringe and it's kinda like how teens used to bully homosexuals? It really breaks my heart. I wish things were different by now!
okay but dont compare being a furry to being gay… being a furry is a hobby and a choise to pursue. Being gay is not a choise and people get killed for it
@@theforestofoak teens dont bully gay people most of the time There’s always assholes though. Im sure whatever your age group is, there are some real jerks.
This. I would never go out with it. But sure as hell I would be walking around the house in it cause why the hell not. I’ve probably done weirder stuff
This round table format is great. It’s cool to see the interviewees interact with each other. I imagine there are times when having a one on one interview, when the interviewer is really necessary to be the audience proxy, bridge a gap, ask follow up questions. And don’t get me wrong, Anthony’s empathy and charisma make him an exceptional interviewer. But there’s something beautiful about bringing members of a community together and letting them speak for themselves. Different from your norm, but I think the choice was effective. Thanks!
I saw a parrot fursuit once before, dressed in a pirate outfit. It came complete with a tri-fold hat and a treasure chest he carried about. I don’t care what anyone says, THAT is a good cosplay.
I have slight masklophobia and I was terrified of people in suits when I was a kid. Furries are great and really brave in my opinion to express themselves and ignore the hate they get only for being diiferent. People will always judge other people no matter who they are or what they do so why care about their opinion? Don't let anyone change you cause you're perfect the way you are.
omg i‘ve been looking for a term that would discribe my fear of maskots or people dressed up as characters in general. Never knew that it‘s a thing, i thought it was just me, lol.
I was also terrified of masks growing up. Courtesy of an older brother who had a Freddy Krueger one--I can laugh at it now though. I was also really scared of this one shop that had a bunch of mounted animals because I wasn't expecting it. So I literally have NO IDEA how Fursuits don't bother me. Granted I don't think I could wear one what with my glasses and heat sensitivity and all, but I have zero problem being around them. Not that I know any fursuiters in person. I need to get out more haha. But yeah, really nice to know I'm not the only one scared of masks. I'm not terrified of them any more but good lord do the rubber ones still bother me.
same. I'm not scared of them anymore but there's still a hint of anxiety whenever I'm near them but I don't think I would be very scared if I met a furry.
Thank you for making this, Anthony! Hopefully this will show to a wider audience and people will realize that THIS is how furries actually are. They don’t all use litter boxes, growl at people in public, think they’re genuinely animals, etc.
@@cookiecraze3647well obviously there's going to be exceptions and odd people, there are in every fandom, that does not mean that's the rule or should be used as the standard for the whole group
I’m a furry (have been since i was, what, 8?) and it’s honestly so freeing. i’ve been treated like an animal my whole life because of my autism and yet people hate when i finally can embrace it.
This literally cleared up so many misconceptions I had. I have been nonconsensually exposed to really horrible content by old friends, and out of being triggered by the concept, I just grouped it all together. This is the first time I've had my fears addressed, validated and acknowledged, and like, unpacked. I almost want to cry thinking about it. And like. I 100% relate to people who are just dressing up, performing, getting to feel an escape from your issues. I 100% relate to wanting to dress up as something else. I literally could be a furry. But also, not really because the traditional fursuits freak me out, like the cheeks and the eyes. but that purple one is soooooo pretty. Idk. Like I never thought of it this way, but I have a big loose kangaroo onesie with a tail, and a hood with ears, and a lil pocket in the front, I fucking love it. I wear it when I'm going out casually with friends and were gonna walk around but its cold af. Like to movies, to chilis, to the grocery store, if I'm cold and everyone else is dressing for comfort/wearing pajamas themselves, and they're cool with me going in a lil pajama costume. And because other people love it too, and the moments we all have are so wholesome and I want that attention to feel better about myself and prompt some socialization lmfao. And I want allllllll of the different onesies. Maybe that's as far as it goes for me, because I hear everyone talking about how thick the suits are and how hot it gets and I can barely handle the onesie. but it's no longer because I'm fearful of furries or being a furry. And seriously. Liberated. By this episode. Thank you Rune, Smolfuzz, Scoutpawfoot, Nicole and Anthony, and everyone else involved with this video✔️⭐️🙏
You don’t need a suit to be a furry! Plus many makers also do onesie commissions so you can still wear something for your character but be comfortable at the same time! I myself am a huge lover of onesies as well so I get the comfort of it
You don’t need a suit to be a furry, a lot of furry’s have them but we all start off without one, and a lot of us continue without one. Like me. I’m a furry because I like drawing cute animal characters. 😊
They mentioned therians, I'm so glad this was talked about briefly. Our community is NOT looking for attention, like a lot of people are. We are just here existing and do not need a spotlight. Thank you!
Agreed. I especially appreciate that the one differentiated between therians and otherkin too. I know in more recent years the otherkin label has been more and more encroaching as an "umbrella term", but I still belong to that old school of thought where the two are separate and distinct. The communities developed separately, and they have, or at least had when I was active in them, separate cultures.
Yeah I know, I’m not one of them but I am a furry, but it’d still be cool to be an English speaking cat, like wouldn’t that be cool?? (Please I’m not trying to be offensive- I just think it’d be cool to be a English speaking cat-)
even though the main point of the fandom isn't the NSFW side, it's the most kink positive and accepting scene ever. I've seen non furries go "wow so much furry art is representing my plus size body, I love it!"
This series is honestly so great. I certainly grew up in an open-minded family, but at the end of the day we are a rural family so my exposure to these cultures are extremely limited, mostly in media only. These videos have been an excellent way to be a fly on the wall and learn so much about these different walks of life right from the source.
I'm glad there is someone big profile like Anthony taking the time to help push back all of the negativity, pointing out there are problems, but those are problems with the people not the community they have surrounded themselves in
don't the people make up the community. unless you're one of those people who believe something because someone said it. theres way more horrible truths that no furry would ever reveal because it isn't pretty. so you get the light version thats suppose to be convincing. nothing here touches even on the horrors i've seen that are extremely common. it's nothing more than a fluff piece. it's the most you can do without letting people know what really goes on.
@@zeosummers3984I have been reading a lot of your posts under this video. Honestly, mostly just laughing at them. It sounds like you were going through some rough times. I'll give you this comparison. A fandom like this one is like a big city. What it sounds like you're saying, is that you witnessed one-too-many crimes in these streets. Anyway, you don't see the whole city. No one living there does. No furry fan, or hater, does. Do you know who sees the whole city? The police, the military, the governments that host the internet and the events that make up this fandom, it's their job to do so. Leave it to them to uncover the criminals, who are you anyway? If you know of crimes, go talk to the Police!
Personally I don't think I would ever be a furry but it's a community I honestly don't see any disrespect towards. You do you, and as long as you're happy and not hurting anyone keep doing it.
dude my school friend said the same thing. i'm a furry and i asked about therians, "aren't those the people that think they're animals in a past life or something?" and my friend well...she turned to me and asked "furries?" i internally screamed in rage lol
So glad they mentioned therians/otherkin, they don't literally "think" they're animals however, it's more complex than that. It's purely spiritual for some, or a psychological fixation for others, etc. There still needs to be more of an understanding. If they wanna feel "in character" at a core level or more often than what is deemed acceptable by others, then so tf what? They aren't hurting anyone. We're all just out here vibing in our own ways.
The “weird” and quiet kids have always gotten hate and been bullied in school, it’s inevitable. The furry fandom is like the biggest group of weird + awkward ppl so I feel like the hate is unavoidable in the same way. People will just never understand.. these videos give me hope but 😕
I really hope furries can be more understood one day - it really is just a hobby, nothing more. We’re not attracted to animals, we don’t believe we’re animals, it’s all an act. We’re playing a character just like any other type of cosplay.
Of course it’s sexual I mean come on that’s ridiculous to say. These people are so confused about there sexuality that they don’t even know that’s why they dress up like that
It's a spectrum and there are absolutely furries who are attracted to animals, believe they're animals, etc. Constantly trying to whitewash the less savory parts of it is only going to cause people to push back because the examples of the things you say aren't a thing do exist and are undeniable.
THANK YOU for this video! once again. people are so loud and vicious and mean without doing their research on the fandom. thank you for giving us a spotlight to share our truth. yes, theres bad. but theres bad EVERYWHERE, in everything. it's no different. it's unique.
The litter box rumor is by far the funniest rumor that has ever circulated in this fandom to the point of making HEADLINES. Because not only is it on the same level as a middle school rumor, but even at that age you would need to be incredibly gullible to believe it in the first place.
It's such a ridiculous rumor that I am not even offended by it, mostly just confused by it. Yet some places are proposing real legislation against furries due to it?????
There’s a good few documentaries on the fandom here on TH-cam, as someone who saw the csi episode and had everyone around me taking it as fact, it’s such an eye opener to see the truth of the fandom, it’s so welcoming from what I’ve seen, I love the creativity and character art, it’s amazing to see all the individuality and community
I think I’ve met like 12 different people that were furries, and they’ve all been really nice folks. When my friends and I went bowling, we saw a group that all had their suits on and everyone in the building was coming up, giving them hugs (with consent). It was kinda awesome
Everytime someone asks me a hot take I always say that furries are actually pretty cool bc they express themselves authentically and who tf am I to judge them for having fun? They literally don't hurt anyone and I don't understand why there's still such a stigma around the whole topic.
I actually became more interested in animal rights activism after joining the furry fandom. Some furry conventions raise money too for animal rights charities or other charities which help the environment. Nowadays I donate usually a part of the commissions I make to a charity and have reduced my consumption of red meat etc... I also started to study IT in a university since I want to be part of the sustainable change and make more sustainable tech decisions.. And on the side I want to do cool protogen fursuit someday :D
Being unable to separate reality from fantasy is something seen in people in general who're chronically-online, it's not just Furries. I remember when Jayden Animations came out as Aro/Ace and people got mad at her because it went against their headcannon that she's straight and they could theoretically have a relationship with her. It reminds me of that scene in The Batman where Batman tells The Riddler that they were never a team even though The Riddler thought they were and so he gets upset about it. I like to imagine all those guys who simped for Jayden look and act just like him.
@@zeosummers3984 No offence, but given how many long-winded replies you’ve made on comments on this video, I don’t think you’re really in a position to accuse someone else of being chronically online for posting a long-winded comment.
So are you saying that your furry stuff has nothing to do with sex... no? Didn't think so. The problem is it isn't just you dressing up it is intrinsically linked to sex and kink. We don't try to normalize gimp suits and bondage gear and try to present the BDSM community as normal and something that should be paraded around and accepted in everyday life... but that is what you are trying to do. It isn't a good thing there are things that should stay in private and this is one of them. Why are you so desperate to have your kink in the open? It is pretty sus...
I am so incredibly happy right now, reading through these comments and seeing that this video IS making a change on how some people view us. I know this video wont reach everyone nor will it change everyones view but im so glad that its improving, slowly but surely thank you so much anthony for making this video. Hopefully in the coming years the harrassment for furries will die down and we wont have to lose young members to suicide anymore due to this harrassment. One of our biggest issues is the harrassment actually getting to the younger side of the fandom and i just simply will not sit there and deal with it, they have lives furry or not they do not deserve to feel so bad to the point they feel like theres nothing left in their life except to end it. Thank you to everyone whos watching this and actively changing their views to not view us all as weirdos because its truly not everyone.
This new format Assumptions is awesome and I like the way you facilitated the conversation and pointed out for example "It feels like y'all are a lot more expressive and playful in your suits"
All fandoms have a dark side. The furry fandom just so happens to have a particularly atrocious and loud dark side compared to others. However, everyone I have met and personally know are great people, and it pains to see so many assume the worst whenever they don't understand something and than also refuse to educate themselves on the matter.
you did say an atrocious and loud dark side. you're lucky the people you met were good, that doesn't always happen, then again i seen plenty of furries defend the awful side because it would look bad for furries. you say educate themselves but that usually means pretending all that stuff that would make anyone look at it with disdain never happened.
Actually the dark side is only amplified by the hate of oppressors. Oppressors of our society will do anything to amplify a minority to making it a bigger problem than it really is and one could consider it gaslighting by definition
i heard that the origins of the litterbox story was because teachers were required to have a litterbox in case of a lockdown/active person in the building
thank u anthony for making me less weirded out by furries. i still don't get it that much but i admire the work they put into the suits; they look great
i'm a furry and i hate the barking, accusations of using litter boxes, etc. i'm a teenage girl who has a hobby and likes drawing anthro animals, that's it. i'm also making my own partial fursuit. social media really has made us all stupid, huh?
As someone who has been in the furry community for so many years I'm glad to see more people talking about it and being more open minded. I first started out in the community while I was an adolescent and now being much older I feel so much more confident having a fursuit and running around with my friends and going to cons has been my escape from real life stress! Love this community
Good you listen and believe the propaganda... you are a good little sheep that will not think and just do as they are told. I mean, hurray, you are a good person and better than other people!!!
This video warms my heart. I'm a mostly online furry, I can't afford a full fursuit, so I use a virtual one in vr spaces. Almost everywhere online, I see bullying and harassment. TH-cam is one of the worst. I can't count how many anti-fur videos, comments, and bot accounts I've seen. But seeing this video and all of the comments makes me feel better about my hobby that so many people make mass genocide jokes about
I use too thinks furries were weird but I made a friend from school and he was a furry and honestly he’s probably the most nicest guy I met and he’s so sweet, he’s laid back and doesn’t even care about what people say about him. He literally proved my assumptions wrong. Every single one of them.:)
I'm an older nerd (50+), so furries were a regular part of SFF fandom. C.J. Cherryh's Chanur novels were instrumental in the wider popularity of furry fandom back in the day, though there has always been an ebb and flow of inclusion under the wider nerd umbrella.
I LOVE assumptions!!!! This is not just an interview in an interesting dynamic, but its educating, as well as opinionated, with conversations people need to listen to. People are PEOPLE. Humans. If theyre not hurting anyone or themselves, if theyre happy, they deserve their peace. I love love this new content switcheroo. I love anthonys content!
Why are people so problematic? Like “ew furry I’m an anti furry” for what? Like is it the false rumors or are you just stubborn? When has a furry ever like bullied you? Are these people really effecting you or do you just want attention?
Some kids just think hating others is cool, I guess. Others are just misinformed. I’ve never had someone over the age of 18 make fun of me for being a furry. I *have* had adults make bad assumptions about me because of it, but rather than being dismissive, they usually just ask questions and are open to me correcting them. Realistically, if someone’s making fun of furries, it’s because they lack the emotional maturity to realize that being a furry is okay. I’m pretty sure most ‘anti-furs’ are under 15 years old.
because some people actually deal with a huge amount of shit that no one would believe because all furries are innocent. you don't won't to know how many anti furries have been seriously fucked up by the fandom which is why they hate them so much. the fandom throw them away once they aren't willing to stay quiet.
What are you yapping about? Most furry haters are little kids who are in middle school. That's why they hate is because they weren't raised correct and they are very immature.@@zeosummers3984
I'm more impressed by how they got such good audio when they had their heads on. I filmed for furryfoofi in the past and man was it ever hard to capture decent audio
I think what people forget is that all the problems people accuse furries or LGBTQ+ for happen everwhere in humanity from all sides (from far left to far right). We just seem to pick furries and the LGBTQ+ community to take the fall while leaving others off the hook. There is always going to be bad in things that seem fine, but constantly playing the blame game is getting us nowhere.
@@danteshollowedgroundsThere is a thing called "scapegoats". Logically speaking marginalized communities are less likely to have an impact on society and thus are much less likely to be at fault for what is wrong with it. The rich and powerful are usually the ones at fault because they are responsible, but as it happens time and time again the people need someone that is at fault and why admit you did something wrong when people exist that are beeing irrationally hated.
Yup! I never understood why men being creepy towards women and pressuring them into relationships is seen as normal, but the moment two consenting adults decide to do something unusual together, they’re horrible perverts, and you’re lucky you don’t know anyone like that. The moment someone’s a minority in any way, we expect them to set an example. If a ‘normal’ person is a creep, we just think, “oh, that guy’s a creep,” but the moment a gay man is a creep, we think, “oh, that guy’s making gay people look bad.” Being a creep has nothing to do with your sexual orientation, but because creepiness is usually an expression of sexuality, I think people often assume they’re a package deal. If straight sex offenders had even HALF the social stigma of so-called ‘weirdos,’ the world would be a very different place.
Hearing a furry say that therians can be furries but not all furries are therians is such a nice thing to hear. As a furry and therian, I understand where the assumptions come from, I just wish people would do their research before assuming. Furries just enjoy anthropomorphic animals and stuff. And , there are several different ways that therians can be therians. The main point is that being a furry is a choice, being a therian is not.
As someone who isn't a furry, I find the whole fandom of it interesting, because you've got these people spending tons of money just to become one with a character that they created. Their character becomes so much more than just artwork or words on a page. And while I follow a variety of furries on twitter that do NSFW artwork, the only noises I hear from the community are the ones being negative and damn do they paint a negative picture to everyone who doesn't really understand the fandom as a whole.
you can't understand the fandom as a whole if you're only willing to like the good side when it's convenient. that's how all the problems arose because they only wanted you to know and see what they needed you to see and it's still like that.
i think it's better to see "furry" as an umbrella term instead of a community. furries can be fursuiters like these 3 in the video, furry artists or just people who appreciate anthro characters without making art or dressing up themselves. understandably fursuiters are the first category that comes to mind regarding furries, them being the most visible, but they're not all of it.
dude it's just fan of anthropomorphic animals. the fan part covers everything. the same with anime fan. don't know why furries always try to make it more complicated than it has to be yet they complain about not being understood. it's not anymore special because you want to stand out.
@@zeosummers3984 any hobby has a community so I don’t get why you and the other person have problems with a hobby having a community it means people support a common interest and honestly it’s just that nothing more past that
I'm a Furry artist and after 3 years i can say that i never had a problematic costumer in the Furry fandom, art is the backbone of the fandom and artists are respected, payed fairly and all the costumers i had were just happy to see their fursona made by me, it's so fun and fullfilling! The furry fandom is a space full of fun creative people and it's the safest fandom i've ever been in
I was a bit hesitating if I even want to watch it, without understanding why, but I have no regrets and love to be educated on this topic. Thank you, Anthony and the participants :)
The version of the furries demanding litterboxes myth I heard was had transphobic language. They said the kids "identify" as animals and their were demanding accommodations, including litterboxes IN THE CLASSROOM or else the kids would pee on the walls/floors of the classroom.
I never realized how many preconceived notions I had about furries until this vid. I never took the time to research or understand them, and this cleared up a lot of what feel like commonly known things within the fandom.
Beautiful video! As a furry myself, I’m so happy to see another positive video from you Anthony! You are a great voice for us. The misconceptions people have are really a shame, but videos like this help show that it really is just a hobby! Thank you!
Thank you for making this video, Anthony! Addressing these assumptions and proving that these smaller communities are much different than most people think is really important.
It would be a neat idea to do sequels to these with different people. Culture is ever changing and that also means new questions and views. This also opens it up so there isn’t one view based on gender or background.
I used to think furrys were like s*x crazed freaks because that’s what society had basically told me and that was the art I was exposed to online and I just thought it was weird. But like over my time online I’ve met furrys and learnt a whole lot. Majority furrys I’ve met have been some of the nicest most supportive people I’ve ever met. And it’s not really anything weird, it’s like larping or dnd in a way (which tbf are also demonised) but yall just have silly little characters you like to dress up as and hang out at cons or make silly videos or something. Most people are just having quirky fun. Now I have multiple friends who are furries and honestly I could maybe get into it myself.
where can i meet the non s*x crazed freaks because thats all i ever find. nicest and supportive how? you probably just filtered them and blocked out the ones that you didn't fit what you wanted.
My 3rd grader has been asking me a lot of questions about furries, over the past year... I've answered as best I could... I'm glad my answers lined up to those in the community. I think I'll watch this with him tomorrow... try and talk more to see if he's just curious in general, or if he's interested in trying to find a (kid friendly) furrie space/ con.... Thank you for sharing your experiences, answering questions and pushing back against misinformation. Much love, encouragement and solidarity to you all, along your journey. ❤
Why are you showing this third grader a community with a lot of sexualised content? and if you speak with this about him, it could taint his believes, making him think that it’s cool, and the best thing ever when he should be choosing for himself, not based on your experiences or on this video
@@Maxim0n_ If he’s interested in it, he should be allowed to understand it. If it makes him thinks it’s cool, whoopdy doo. The sexualized part? Let’s be honest, sex jokes start at about that age, so as long as he already knows what it is, then it doesn’t seem that bad. Of course, I’m not promoting kids looking at sexual content, being I am one myself, but I’m saying it’s pretty easy to avoid.
I was in a class once and someone brought up the litterbox thing, and my science teacher jumped in and told them that that was false and just a stupid rumor We love you ms daly please come back 😢
Man... I love this fandom Found my best friends in it, my pasion for art, which evolved into my dream job as an illustrator it has it's downsides as everything, but that's natural and also the reason is common it's because of the huge size of the fandom itself
While I'll admit, the idea of wearing fursuits makes me cringe, I cannot deny that the way this fandom is being portrayed by it's members in this video makes it look like a very heartwarming and welcoming community. This is a very eye opening video. You're all mad awesome, I wish you the best!
i mean at the end of the day, all we're doing is just designing our own personal mascots. sports teams all have a mascot in a big suit that walks through the crowd to get the younger kids in the arena/stadium entertained. furries are sorta doin the same thing, we're just using our own designs and going to conventions to meet other people who designed their own mascots rather than going to like, sports games or something.
Unfortunately thats how they keep getting away with all the vile shit they do behind the scenes. Well, it's not even that hidden. Spend 5 minutes in the fandom and you are bombarded with fetish porn and child grooming.
I hope you cringe every time people dress up for halloween, too! LMAO, I don't get the 'cringe' part - were you never a 10 year old playing pretend at recess? Why is it more cringe as an adult than as a kid, to enjoy a colorful animal and want to shake off society's expectations and be something fun and bright and carefree for a bit? Just looks fun, tbh! (I'd say it's a bit cringe if someone was out like...grocery shopping in a fur suit and running errands in it, etc. But it's like...they dress up and go to designated dress-up places.)
@@christabelle__ I don't cringe about halloween because it's a cultural custom. To be clear, fursuits themselves weird me out, not the way they're used. I didn't have anyone to play pretend with at recess. It's not more cringe as an adult to enjoy something and I don't care what others enjoy, it is just how I stated above. You are correct, it does look fun to be so carefree and together with other, open-minded, and accepting members of a community. I wish I could be a part of such a community. Yeah nah don't go shopping in your fursuit, unless you lost a bet or something haha Ultimately I'm just stating how I feel about things. I'm not judging, I am respecting other people's choices regardless of how weird or cringe-worthy I find them weird. My feelings about other people's choices are just that, feelings, and feelings don't have to be rational. I still give everyone an equal chance.
when furries are in the spotlight they do put everything down to look well. it's when they are not is when you start seeing the facade break. do you expect a video where furries literally don't look good when they get invited and plan it out. the last time i remember that happening the person got death threats from the community.
I love seeing big content creators like Anthony bring light to our community and held to spread how positive and good it can be! If only we had more people doing the same
@@Samsamo888Origins of the modern fandom date back to the late 70s/early 80s, with the first dedicated convention happening in 1989. It's not a new thing, but some of the recent manufactured moral outrage is (no, kids are not shitting in boxes).
Some of these assumptions happen in the lolita community too. We literally just like to dress up in frilly dresses. It has nothing to do with the book and it’s not sexual at all 😭 it just has an unfortunate name. It sucks that people will look at a hobby and just assume it’s something devious
The furry fandom for the most part is quite nice. It's overall a fun way to express some emotion and creativity, and I hope they can keep encouraging people to do so while also encouraging a healthy balance in lifestyle.
I have volunteered at a little festival for people with disabilities with my fursuit, it was a very fun day! I love to give kids, adult just people in general a fun day and a good experience.
Furries have always appeared weird and awkward to me, i really don't know why but it's been like this for about 4 years. I'm just very disappointed that my viewpoint of furries has been twisted to "Oh these people are so intimate, they do this and that", but the truth is they're actually nice people and they're just trying to escape to a more comfortable space. This video gave me a better understanding of the fandom, what furries and what their personalities actually are. I'm not a furry myself, mostly because a fur suit would make me pass out from overheating but i support anybody who is and i respect their decision. Thank you for explaining❤
You don't need to own a fursuit or even a tail to be a Furry. The only requirement, if you can call it that, is that you enjoy anthropomorphized animal characters. Do you enjoy movies like Zootopia? Or cartoons like My Little Pony? Or novels like Wings of Fire? Those are anthropomorphized characters: animals with human-like personalities & behaviours. If you enjoy stories, art or games with those kinds of characters as themes, then you might enjoy the Furry Fandom.
@@DrachenGothik666 I don't mind them, like i did enjoy watching Zootopia and some other movies, series or games with that aspect in mind. But the main reason i'm not a furry is because: as an aroace, i have a lot of social anxiety and i wouldn't have the psychological strength to reveal it to friends, family etc. Maybe someday i'd join the fandom, as i have begun to develop that viewpoint of not caring what other people think of me but i think i just need time to decide. Thank you for clarifying🤗
My best friend got me into her friend group and the other person I got closest with had a straight up mental breakdown over the fact that I'm a furry. I showed the others my artwork before, they loved it! Complimented my world building even. And they're nowhere close to the artist/furry bubble. All I ask for is some basic human respect and not getting multiple death threats when I was 13 years old for drawing cute animals.
This episode was really great for me. I am pretty sure I am a furry, though I am kinda trying to deny it. I think I'm simply scared of all the hate, because I am also trans. I think I'll wait- take the time to grow up, and see if the rest of the world grows up with me. But thanks to everyone in this video, you all definitely made me feel a bit more confident.
Yup! There’s no rush. I learned about the fandom when I was 15, and knew it was something I’d be interested in, but I waited until I was 20 to actually start engaging in the fandom and calling myself one. I’m glad I waited, because 15 year old me would DEFINITELY not have been prepared to answer some of the awkward questions. Thankfully, I’ve never gotten any actual hate irl, only awkward questions that I’ve been able to clearly and concisely answer.
I do feel like theres too much hate and stigma around furries, and I think they're all beautiful, creative and amazing people. We need to respect them more, love you guys!
@@zeosummers3984 Everywhere around you. Based on your comments you’ve come at us less negative with an overly defensive and aggressive mindset. Respect is earned, not expected.
i have so much respect for this fandom. going out in a costume that you love, having fun, and enjoying life. not worrying about what others are gonna think or say is so beautiful to me.
I love them touching on the real life aspect of being a furry and how a lot of them have high end jobs that can be stressful, or that a lot of them feel connected with people in the fandom, whereas they don’t really get that from the outside world. All in all, everyone could use a bit of empathy, and furries are very empathetic towards others, compared to the common outside man who could probably care less.
This was such an amazing conversation! I did notice that much of this video was very fursuit focused though. You don't need a fursuit to be a furry. Furries are just fans of anthropomorphic animal characters. That could be expressed through art, fursuits, puppets, VR avatars, V-tubers. You name it!
So glad to see someone representing the nice side of the fandom too. Usually the content you see from outside of the fandom is all memes and cringe comps
I'm a 30 year old furry who's been in the fandom for 17 years. Most furries seem very able to separate their online persona from their real life, but the ones that can't tend to be young. Young people are looking for who they are and I think it's harder for them to separate their hobbies from who they are as a person.
how young are we talking because it's going way past adult hood. so should i assume everytime something goes wrong and shit hits the fan the person is young. feels more like an out if something arises or someone gets caught.
@zeosummers3984 I'm thinking under 25, before the brain finishes developing, and often more like 19, but everyone is different. That's just a generalization based on my experience though. Of course older folks can have difficulties like this too, just feels less frequent.
@zeosummers3984 also what do you mean by gets caught? I'm specifically talking about people who struggle to differentiate between their online furry self and their real life including professionalism etc. When it comes to people committing crimes or immoral acts, shitty people and just shitty people and they exist at all ages and in every fandom.
I'm not a furry, but I use "How do you feel about furries?" as a quick and easy way to find out whether I want to be friends with someone. I'm weird and different in my own ways, and people with hatred or hangups about furries don't feel like safe people to be open about my own stuff with. Why do so many people use weird as an insult? Being weird is good. I like weird people, and I like being weird. It's fun, and very liberating.
Yup! I’m neurodivergent, and it took me awhile to realize that weird is a good thing. As long as you are respectful of others at all times, that’s all that really matters.
@@aidenbagshaw5573 the fact you have to had to add the last part says something else is up. people use weird to justify acting out more than they should.
Anthony...what you did was very inspiring! YOU are showing what true furry is like than being target and that DON'T understand about furry... I really wanna give you a hug for showing this
It's so nice to see some actual representation for furries in this way. They explained everything so well. The majority of the fandom is good, a bit of it is bad and loud. It isn't sexual for a lot of people. It's just a way to express yourself and hang out with people.

Omg
I love u I wanted to be a furry because of u and zee
If you notice the trend, furries are typically neurodivergent people who often feel more comfortable when they can express themself in a non-human form. Often we encourage little kids to do this if they're struggling. Why not adults?

Anyway, you don't see the whole city. No one living there does. No furry fan, or hater, does. Do you know who sees the whole city? I really hope furries can be more understood one day - it really is just a hobby, nothing more. We’re not attracted to animals, we don’t believe we’re animals, it’s all an act. We’re playing a character just like any other type of cosplay.
My farts are better than Anthony’s farts 🦌💨
Of course it’s sexual I mean come on that’s ridiculous to say. These people are so confused about there sexuality that they don’t even know that’s why they dress up like that
I think it's a big cringe, but it's not a big deal, they ain't hurting no one
@@Twekion 👍🏻
Yet right wingers are literally passing laws about it because they actually are that stupid.
@azertyuiopqsdfghjklm That is very true. The rumor ITSELF is ridiculous, but not worth any potential fallout it may cause.
dude i feel like that was probably something a furry said as an ironic shitpost making fun of something, only for it to be repeated ad nauseum.
My farts are better than Anthony’s farts 🦌💨💨
A common meet up spot is local bowling places as it's usually cold and there's activities to do while meeting new folks and hanging out
Your lucky that’s why
Everytime someone asks me a hot take I always say that furries are actually pretty cool bc they express themselves authentically and who tf am I to judge them for having fun? They literally don't hurt anyone and I don't understand why there's still such a stigma around the whole topic.
I just imagined myself saying that to my relatives and realized it's not a hot take because I'd have to explain to them what "furry" even means 😂

I like to imagine all those guys who simped for Jayden look and act just like him.
you might be chronically online with that kind of argument.

If a ‘normal’ person is a creep, we just think, “oh, that guy’s a creep,” but the moment a gay man is a creep, we think, “oh, that guy’s making gay people look bad.”
Being a creep has nothing to do with your sexual orientation, but because creepiness is usually an expression of sexuality, I think people often assume they’re a package deal.
And while I follow a variety of furries on twitter that do NSFW artwork, the only noises I hear from the community are the ones being negative and damn do they paint a negative picture to everyone who doesn't really understand the fandom as a whole.
you can't understand the fandom as a whole if you're only willing to like the good side when it's convenient. that's how all the problems arose because they only wanted you to know and see what they needed you to see and it's still like that.
i think it's better to see "furry" as an umbrella term instead of a community. furries can be fursuiters like these 3 in the video, furry artists or just people who appreciate anthro characters without making art or dressing up themselves. understandably fursuiters are the first category that comes to mind regarding furries, them being the most visible, but they're not all of it.

i mean at the end of the day, all we're doing is just designing our own personal mascots. sports teams all have a mascot in a big suit that walks through the crowd to get the younger kids in the arena/stadium entertained. furries are sorta doin the same thing, we're just using our own designs and going to conventions to meet other people who designed their own mascots rather than going to like, sports games or something.

You are correct, it does look fun to be so carefree and together with other, open-minded, and accepting members of a community. I wish I could be a part of such a community.

I must have miss the empathetic part from furries. it seems you have to be seen as a furry for them to care or else it's just pure hate. some fandom.
As long as you are respectful of others at all times, that’s all that really matters.
because the weird stuff isn't just being different which people default too so they can dismiss things when they go to far.
@@aidenbagshaw5573 the fact you have to had to add the last part says something else is up. people use weird to justify acting out more than they should.
Anthony...what you did was very inspiring! YOU are showing what true furry is like than being target and that DON'T understand about furry... I really wanna give you a hug for showing this
Thank you SO much for making this, a lot of people need to know what furries actually are instead of whatever rumors the internet spreads around.
My farts are better than Anthony’s farts 🦌💨💨
Thank you for making this episode, might finally change some people’s minds about furrys 😄
my farts are better than Anthony’s farts 🦌💨
@@p-__ good job
Nah
the only mind they will change are people who never had a thought in their head in their entire life.
@@zeosummers3984bruh I’ve seen your replies under so many comments, can you find something else to do? You’re not getting anywhere with this
RUNE!!! I am so so proud of her for being brave and going onto the show! 💛💛💛
so stunning and brave. what a hero. i never seen anyone be put into so much danger before in my life. (honest)
It's so nice to see some actual representation for furries in this way. They explained everything so well. The majority of the fandom is good, a bit of it is bad and loud. It isn't sexual for a lot of people. It's just a way to express yourself and hang out with people.
