    I have a 2014 ram 3500 with 8ft bed and just had it deleted at 73k miles. I have the 68RFE trans and not a problem. Have the EFI live tunes with the DPS5 switch. Ram is the way to go!

    Nice mileage review. I'm getting about 17/18 mpg in my RAM 3500 Mega Cab dually around town here in AZ. Dramatically less pulling our 50' fifth wheel/trailer up the steep grades. Roughly 9 mpg
    But the engine and tranny are strong. The Aisin is built well and can handle that heavy towing. Before long Eddie you will trust her 100%

    I got a 2014 2500 with a 3.42 rear end. When I first got it, it would do 20-21mpgs at about 75mph. When I put 35 inch tires, it knocked it down to 18.5-19mpgs.
    Then I wised up and deleted it and it's back to 21mpgs at 70-75mph on the same 35s and 25+ mpgs at 60-65, even with a dirty intake and a bad VGT actuator.
    I look forward to future videos of this gorgeous rig!

    It's pretty amazing to see the rpms these Cummins powered trucks run at nowadays. Twenty years ago a Cummins powered 3500 would be turning 2,000-2,500 rpms at 70-75 depending on gearing. The 2019 Ram HDs come with either a 3:73 or a 4:10 axle ratio. The gas trucks get an 8 speed automatic and they'll turn 1,500 at 60 mph which is amazing considering my 2012 1500 does that at 60 mph with 3:55 gears and HD are at least 1,000 pounds heavier.

    Have a 2019 with 7k on it already it's a beast love it. Power and milage gets better after 5k. Cummins need a break in period. Ram is the top truck right now. Have fords and gmc at work all diesels we have always had less problems with ram.

    I have people all but call me a liar when they ask about my fuel mileage on my Ram 3500 dually. To the point when people ask now, I just tell them they wouldn't believe me if I told them. I have owned Dodge/Ram trucks with Cummins diesels for 20 years, all 3 trucks have been great on fuel mileage considering what they are capable of. There is something to be said for a inline 6 turning 1500-1600 rpm versus a 8 cylinder turning 2000+ rpm at same speed with the trucks being geared the same. Plus the engine lifespan with a engine turning 400+ rpm less over 50,000 miles of driving. I have a 24' bay boat with solid T-top, large console with windshield which is a lot of wind resistance. Total weight loaded with gear and trailer is approx. 7k lbs which is nothing for the Ram. But I towed it from NC to Florida Keys 900 miles one-way. It got great fuel mileage considering the wind resistance and 90% of the mileage was 75+ mph. I did check it manually, the truck computer was off slightly. Only complaint I had was the small fuel tank with limited truck stops through SC, GA & FL, I had to maneuver the Ram 3500 Dually crew cab long bed with 24' boat into convenient stores for fuel.

      I hope my 19 2500 gets 20+ I was not expecting that high of mileage with all the emissions stuff. Haven’t had a Hwy trip yet.

    • @chrism2042
      @chrism2042 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianLampright913 - I don't have a lot of miles on my Ram, but my last 2 Dodge trucks with Cummins increased in mileage as the engine broke in, hopefully the Ram will do the same. I drove mine on a 220 mile trip one way last weekend. Approx 1/2 the trip was interstate averaging 75 mph, several miles through large City with slow heavy traffic and remaining mileage was approx 60 mph. Same trip home but heavier traffic and rain storms. Manually checked mileage, averaged 19.2 mpg total trip. My Ram is dually 4x4 crew cab long bed, geared 3:73 with Aisin trans. My last truck was a 3500 dually with Cummins HO 5.9, auto trans 4x4, geared 4:10 and it averaged 17 - 17.5 on a trip like that. My friend has a F350 geared 4:10 and said best mileage he has ever got is 13.4 mpg (empty). FYI - many people bash the Ram mirrors. I always keep mirrors down unless I am towing and need to see around the dually fenders. My last truck, I checked mileage with mirrors up and mirrors down, my mileage increased .8-.9 mpg with mirrors down. A bit more wind resistance with mirrors up. The large vertical mirrors and high RPM V-8 diesel in Fords and Chevy really hurts fuel mileage.

    Normally you will get a little bit better mileage when they're new; the diesel's don't regenerate as much when new. When you start to idle here and there the regen will start more often giving you slightly worse mileage. As far as cooling, you'll get 220 when towing up a large hill, like the Devil's Canyon coming into California but that's just to cook out the emissions. And with that engine brake you have, wait until you hook that trailer up you're going to LOVE that engine brake. There are times I'm towing 22K and I have to click it to number 1 just to get going as the engine stops too much. I had one of my Rams with 180K miles and had original brakes. By the way, that is real wood there, believe it or not.

    • @getpower1

      Devo Dar my ‘18 3500srw hit 220 coolant towing up a hill in 105 degree heat last week. I was wondering if that was anything to worry about. Once we got into town I could smell that sweet exhaust smell when I rolled the windows down and I figured either my truck just got done burning off the cooker or one of the tractors around me at the stop did. Good to know it’s normal.

      Yes do it now! I am debating between 3500 standard and high output. I want mpg... i dont need 1k lb ft torque...
      Highoutput got the compression ratio lowered from 17.3 to 16.2! Which should make mpg worse.
      Standard output comp ratio went from 17.3 to 19! Should be way better on mpg...

    Dude,check out PD diesel power here on TH-cam. It's a guy in Spokane WA. that owns his own trucking company with multiple Rams he uses to hotshot. He has quite a few great videos with detailed info on the last gen and the new one. He's got a cool vid about the Aisin on his last truck with 300k on it. It's cooling ability is a favorite of his too. For specific detailed real world info on a Ram that gets used very hard all week but flawlessly maintained he gives great details on engine and tranny performance. It's a good resource for info.

    • @dedalliance1
      @dedalliance1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that $4 a gallon is pretty rough lol. Right now at Costco here in Montana Gas and Diesel are both the same price, $2.49, but if you go to any other gas station it's $2.63 for gas and like high $2.80's for diesel. Costco pays for its own membership in fuel savings alone without ever stepping foot in the store, plus if you get their credit card it's 4% back on all fuel purchases, so that makes it even better.
