  • January 2024's Hopley House car meet saw a fantastic turnout of classic British cars, sports cars and vintage cars - one of which dating back to 1913!
    In this video expect a full 'tutorial' on how to fire up a Ford V8 Pilot, as we head off bright and early to this classic car show where we were greeted by some gleaming cars, dating from 1913 to the 2000s, my favourites of which being a Lotus Elan S4 FHC, Ford Popular and an incredible 1 of 23 GTD R42.

    Excellent video Harley. The Austin 1100 brought back memories - I learned to drive in a 1966 one, as did my sister. Gear leaver was like a stick in custard ! Some great cars there today, but the Pilot will always steal the show for me - NEVER sell that car ! Thanks for all your hard work in producing these videos for us. Take care 🙂

    Fabulous range of cars at this meet. Loved seeing the 1100, they had a very cool ride (along with the 1300) with their "float on fluis suspension". That Chrysler was really something too - I thought he might need a 60 point turn. That huge size and still just a 2 door!!

    The overlay comment of precision driving reminded me that my father always backed his prewar ford four door up the driveway and into the garage where it barely fit probably because that way he could hand crank the engine if needed. Also he always backed into parking spaces said it was safer to leave that way.

    Very enjoyable walk around. Thanks for giving up your Sunday morning sleep-in for us. We all learnt some new facts today about cars we didn't even know existed. Some great chats with owners too, who are justifiably proud of their beasts. Looking forward to a couple more trips to these morning carpark meets. Only the real diehard true enthusiasts are crazy enough to get up at 5:30 on a frosty Sunday morning and we appreciate you all. I dont imagine the Pilot has a cabin heater?
    Cheers. Safe travels and keep smiling.

      Funnily enough, the pilot is the only car we've ever had that I can think of that has a working heater!!

    The Austin 1100 was first introduced in 1963, a year after the Morris and MG versions.👍

      @@CarTractionvids Yes I had a 64 one, it had the same dashboard as the MG, i.e strip speedometer except without the wood although you could get optional leather upholstery which mine had. The Morris ( which was the first one in May 62 )was different. This had a dash similar( but not the same as the Austin A40 farina!) How confusing is that! Typical B.M.C.!

    Once again a very interesting video,your commentary was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I could hear you had a cold but that didn't affect your dialogue. Loved the Pilot pre- flight checks and startup!

    I was thinking Harley that the yellow Lotus Elan is very similar to your MX 5 in car design. And there is quite a gap in age difference. The Lotus being a 1960s car.

    • @CarTractionvids
      @CarTractionvids  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The mx5 was made to be a modern equivalent of the Lotus Elan, I believe they bought an Elan to help the mx5's development

      @CarTractionvids I didn't know that. Thank you for your knowledge. In the 1960s there was a British TV show called the Avengers. I liked to watch it, it was two people fighting crime. The actor Diana Rigg played Emma Peel , and she drove a Lotus Elan . Ask your father about it , he might know about the show.

    Great video mate, the 1100 has Desmo Boomerang wing mirrors, knock them and they spring back to the notched position. Don't like the number plates on the Popular, but I know it is hard to get the original wide characters. Check out the Drew Pritchard Classic Car programme on Quest Tv, where he goes to a firm in Sheffield to have plates made for a NSU Ro 80 by two ladies who use 100 year old cast iron stamps to press an aluminium plate, spray it black, then, "block off" the raised characters using a block of wood wrapped with blue tissue soaked in thinners, then, the magic happens, the raised bits repeal their silver, neat.
    I would love to drive a Model T, on the column there are the hand throttle, and the ignition advance/retard levers, on the floor three pedals, right to left, brake, centre, reverse pedal, and left, gear pedal. Raise revs on the column, put handbrake to middle position, push pedal all the way down and hold, and away you go via the epicyclic gearing, then, when a certain speed has been built up, handbrake all the way forward, release pedal for lock up straight through 25 steel plate clutch.
    That's the way Henry Ford wanted it, buy the thing, minimal tuition, then drive.
