I love the message of the song. Society makes it seem like happiness is the only good feeling ,and you should fear or denounce others ,but it's important to feel well every emotion. There's a balance needed.
I also like how it incorporates the legend of Odin into it (if you don’t know what that is look it up). The people who are depressed compare themselves to Odine, who wasted her immortal life on someone who fell in love with someone else while the happiness and peace of mind committee reminds them that if people betray your trust, don’t be afraid to hurt them out of spite, like online did. It’s an interesting concept.

I also like how it conveys the feeling of forcing yourself to be happy when your not and faking a smile like many with depression (especially suicidal people) do. It really is quite an amazing message.

Edit: I realised I should probably put a trigger warning for mentions of child abuse. (especially if anyone who sees this comment wants to read the mentioned story) In history class, we've been discussing Trolley Problems and our teacher told us about the short story: "The Ones who Walk Away From Omelas." In the story, the narrator tells you about a city where everyone is as happy as they could be, but in order to keep this happiness one child must be locked up in a basement, tortured, and made miserable. If even one word of kindness was spoken to the child, the deal would be broken and the citizens would experience negative emotions. This song reminds me of that story.
Man, does nobody actually read that story? The actual point of the story is that the author is describing a utopia and keeps adding elements b/e the 'reader' refuses to believe such a society could exist. The child LITERALLY EVERYBODY talks about when talking about the story PROBABLY ISN'T EVEN REAL when talking about the child the author makes it pretty clear they're just adding the child in for all the cynical bastards who refuse to believe a utopia could exist w/out somebody suffering. AT LEAST READ THE TVTROPES PAGE PEOPLE, IT'S NOT THAT HARD!

Is it strange that in a way I can relate to this song? I always have to be happy for other people and am almost afraid to show any emotion that isn't happiness.

Why do you look upset about this? That's really good to see things this way. I feel like people who are happy want to be sad because being happy is annoying I guess but you don't realize how precious your happiness is, so many people would be like the two of us. I learned to be happy and I know that even if it doesn't make my life sensational and full of twists, that's the most important thing to live a pleasant life.

I think its more of a reflection on how there is a sicietal expectation to be happy at all times, even when its not realistic to be.
Shawn Javery That's one way one interpreting it. Though if I remember correctly, it was meant to be a song about a cult of Ondine/Undine. The knight that dies at the end is probably the one Ondine was with, cheated, and received death as punishment.

Hey guys, can someone explain the connection between the Ondine lore and and the pressure of the society to me? I was thinking the whole last week about this song but I cannot come up with a plausible explanation.
I understand that most people are peer-pressured into feeling happy - or at least brainwashing themselves into thinking that they are happy. I also know the lore of Ondine who gave up her eternal youth for the man she loved. However he wasn´t interested in her and chose another woman (what Ondine sees like a betrayal); then Ondine cursed this man. However, I cannot draw the line between these two.
It makes sense that Ondines lore is used as a lyrical methaphor but who does she represent? The society who is unhappy if you don´t love it? => meaning if you don´t follow the societies standards you will also get cursed (i.e. don´t get a well paying job, be looked down, get told that you are worthless etc.)?
Personally, I think the song is based more on Ondine(s) and metaphors was then added.

I've seen maybe 5 versions of this song, and I'm confident that you sang this best. The more speaking parts that take some voice acting is what sets you apart, you did amazing with that.
