A bad apple spoils the bunch.
So I asked my supporters on Patreon what songs they'd like me to sing and turns out lots of you wanted me to do this one!
Although this isn't Vocaloid or anime, I think its understood that this song from the Touhou series is especially classic. I mean, I probably heard it back in 2008 or something? I didn't even own a mic back then, but I still sang it like everyone else lol. Of course awhile after that I found Christina Vee's english cover and thinking back now, that was probably the first song dub I'd ever heard on TH-cam! Because of how great those lyrics were, I wanted to borrow them this time.
So in respect and honor for that dub and those lyrics, here's my best go at it! Thank you very much!

I like how in this song both black and white mean bad things. Black represents misery and agony, while white represents the fear of becoming someone you’re not although there might be a slither of hope.

I think it is about familiarity.
Black is the familiar, both the anguish and doubt, the send of who you are.
White is unfamiliar, you may lose yourself but may become better.
And the fact this ends with the yin yang orb. A balance between two things is important for stability.
6 years since publication and these transitions are still smoother than my life
this song is from a video game kinds funny to think about. It never even originally had lyrics til it got some later. The game has better songs then this and this is considered one of their worse ones(but it's lyric version got super popular)

Comparing PC98 music to Windows Era music is apples and oranges, but it makes sense that some people like you have never even played the original 5 games so of course you wouldn't know these things. I bet you couldn't even reach Stage 4 on Normal, even with a continue, but that's fine, casual fans can exist without ever actually knowing about the source material. 😉

@@A.Singularity There's the fighting games you can find on Steam and Moriya Shrine, i've heard good things about them but never really gotten into fighting games before. The RPG, Lost World I think it's called, same thing, some people really like it but I honestly found it really boring and dull. Worth a shot if you like RPGs.

The most disturbing part isn't solely because of the lyrics it's the upbeat and cheery beat along with the accompanying happy-go-lucky voice of the singer. The juxtaposition is haunting.

Same. I used to feel like that when I first heard this song, and it became a very important song to me. Then a friend of mine introduced me to Pop'n Music, and this song is actually in Pop'n Music with Reimu as the rival character. I ended up associating Reimu with this song after playing it in Pop'n Music so much, and then I got into Touhou and now I'm training to become a shrine maiden myself and my mood is so much better! This song single handedly turned me into a shrine maiden! It's not easy being a shrine maiden, but it's a very fulfilling purpose to work towards. With enough focus, dedication, and patience, anything is possible!

Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
1: 2 Sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for the pans.
2: 3 Cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the pans.
3: 1 Tablespoon baking powder.
4: ½ Teaspoon salt.
5: 1 ¼ Cups sugar.
6: 4 Large eggs, at room temperature.
7: 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract.
8: 1 ¼ Cups whole milk ( or ¾ cup heavy cream mixed ½ cup water )
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees F.
Butter two 9-inch-round cake pans and line the bottom with parchment paper; butter the parchment and dust the pans with flour, tapping out the excess.

Whisk 3 cups flour, the baking powder and salt in a bowl until combined
Beat 2 sticks butter and the sugar in a large bowl with a mixer on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
Reduce the mixer speed to medium; beat in the eggs, one at a time, scraping down the bowl as needed.
Beat in the vanilla. ( The mixture may look separated at this point. )
Beat in the flour mixture in 3 batches, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with flour, until just smooth.

Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
Bake until the cakes are lightly golden on top and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes.
Transfer to racks and let cool 10 minutes, then run a knife around the edge of the pans and turn the cakes out onto the racks to cool completely.
Remove the parchment.
Trim the tops of the cake with a long serrated knife to make them level, if desired.

sorry to say this but I don't play flute and I got to 1 minute but maybe it's because of the demonic screechings that I do a lot
I play saxaphone so I could probably last for a while but I don't feel like trying.
I try to rap on occasion but my lung capacity is still far to limiting for me to do anything impressive without trying to be vocal. I can't imagine try to sing something this fast paced with these few breaths while also trying to actually sound like I'm singing.
tbh I never played an instrument and I can sing it just fine. I just take short breaths during the very short pauses in the long run it helps a lot with keeping up with the song's pace.
It’s about well placed breaths. And I’m sure they most likely edit their music heavily. So you won’t hear them taking that gasp for air. Not to mention that you are most likely trying to match her pitch making you use more air while singing. But she saves it because her voice is auto tuned. As well as her having better equipment to record.

I am not depressed nor insane or have any major psychological issues But I can relate with a lot of the lines. as a Nihilist, every time I think about my existence it feels exactly how the song describes. I mostly live on a day to day, week to week basis. Apart from wanting to learn piano and chess I got no reason to exist. I guess it makes me edgy but I promise I am usually a pretty cheerful and energetic person most of the time. Its just weirdly resonating.

The original had auto tune so most English covers also have it. Most people just don't notice it in the Japanese version because they don't know Japanese well enough for that, or something like that, I don't know. If you listen to the original looking for auto tune you can hear it.
