I just realized that you had to change the lyrics so that: - still rhymes in English - doesn't change the meaning - still goes with the beat - keeps the original energy that's really hard.
The most disturbing part isn't solely because of the lyrics it's the upbeat and cheery beat along with the accompanying happy-go-lucky voice of the singer. The juxtaposition is haunting.

I like how in this song both black and white mean bad things. Black represents misery and agony, while white represents the fear of becoming someone you’re not although there might be a slither of hope.
I think it is about familiarity. Black is the familiar, both the anguish and doubt, the send of who you are. White is unfamiliar, you may lose yourself but may become better.
My own overly-analysed take on the song is that it's about Gensokyo itself, or rather the role it serves in conserving the last remnants of the supernatural and mystical as Humanity begins to rapidly rationalise and empirically study the world around them. In a world of Science and Reason, people no longer need to explain odd phenomena away with stories and legends that (from their perspective) make enough sense to ponder for a moment and then stop worrying about. The White or Yang represents Order, as people begin to understand more about their universe and how it functions on a mechanical level the mysteries of life are laid bare before them. A system develops, and anything that doesn't fit in (rationalised away as abnormalities, errors, etc) is confined and restrained pending further study. The Black or Yin represents Chaos, the state of lacking understanding or contextual frameworks necessary for myths and superstitions to be born from. At best these folkloric tales and fables are considered quaint reminders of Mankinds past and the cultures/religions that were built around them/shaped by them, at worst though this Chaos is thought of as pure ignorance of facts and logic, a dogmatic rejection of the new intellectual framework within which Humanity now prospers. Deep down, however, a nugget of truth remains in each of these tales and parables, if not something tangible or objective then at least a common thread or observation buried deep within the inefficient but entertaining anecdotes.

Comparing PC98 music to Windows Era music is apples and oranges, but it makes sense that some people like you have never even played the original 5 games so of course you wouldn't know these things. I try to rap on occasion but my lung capacity is still far to limiting for me to do anything impressive without trying to be vocal. I can't imagine try to sing something this fast paced with these few breaths while also trying to actually sound like I'm singing.
tbh I never played an instrument and I can sing it just fine. I just take short breaths during the very short pauses in the long run it helps a lot with keeping up with the song's pace.
It’s about well placed breaths. And I’m sure they most likely edit their music heavily. So you won’t hear them taking that gasp for air. Not to mention that you are most likely trying to match her pitch making you use more air while singing. But she saves it because her voice is auto tuned. As well as her having better equipment to record.

This song has depressing lyrics which I resonate with, but the music is upbeat and kind of cheery at some points. I think it's like that on purpose, like hiding sadness and feeling broken behind pretend happiness. Maybe I'm just looking too deep into it, but this song means a lot to me.

Theory time! The metaphor of "fading to black" is the girl totally losing her mind/ becoming suicidal, and "fading to white" is her fear that if she gets out of this she wouldn't be the same anymore. The song is about her struggle to retain who she is, although the things that make her that way are painful, while everyone is telling her to leave it all behind and start fresh. Too much of either and she would lose herself.
I think the idea is that they’re paralyzed by the potential consequences of their decisions. Regardless of whether they choose either of these completely opposite outcomes, the result is for them to be consumed by it.
It's interesting cuz even the song's name is a metaphor for that. Often times a bad apple isn't an apple that is entirely inedible, but one that has part that need to be cut out for it to be edible. But when is the threshold between living the rot in the apple, cutting it so much there's hardly any of the apple left, and just throwing it all away? Dunno, just thought it was interesting

Elly's PC 98 era theme. I personally think that the PV doesn't matter since it can be applied to everyone in touhou. This is my understanding towards the japanese lyrics: someone's realization of the truth about reality being a lie, if that said person chooses to accept the truth, then all that will be left is darkness and emptiness due to the futility of it all, and if said person chooses to reject the truth, then everything will stay the same. I just realized how creative a design choice the black and white is. You can do all the 3d animation without worrying about the visual detail like coloring and shading. Thankfully, Touhou's characters are distinct enough that you can still distinguish them easily in this style

The original had auto tune so most English covers also have it. Most people just don't notice it in the Japanese version because they don't know Japanese well enough for that, or something like that, I don't know. If you listen to the original looking for auto tune you can hear it.

Same. I used to feel like that when I first heard this song, and it became a very important song to me. Then a friend of mine introduced me to Pop'n Music, and this song is actually in Pop'n Music with Reimu as the rival character. I ended up associating Reimu with this song after playing it in Pop'n Music so much, and then I got into Touhou and now I'm training to become a shrine maiden myself and my mood is so much better! My own overly-analysed take on the song is that it's about Gensokyo itself, or rather the role it serves in conserving the last remnants of the supernatural and mystical as Humanity begins to rapidly rationalise and empirically study the world around them. In a world of Science and Reason, people no longer need to explain odd phenomena away with stories and legends that (from their perspective) make enough sense to ponder for a moment and then stop worrying about.
The White or Yang represents Order, as people begin to understand more about their universe and how it functions on a mechanical level the mysteries of life are laid bare before them. A system develops, and anything that doesn't fit in (rationalised away as abnormalities, errors, etc) is confined and restrained pending further study.
The Black or Yin represents Chaos, the state of lacking understanding or contextual frameworks necessary for myths and superstitions to be born from. At best these folkloric tales and fables are considered quaint reminders of Mankinds past and the cultures/religions that were built around them/shaped by them, at worst though this Chaos is thought of as pure ignorance of facts and logic, a dogmatic rejection of the new intellectual framework within which Humanity now prospers. Deep down, however, a nugget of truth remains in each of these tales and parables, if not something tangible or objective then at least a common thread or observation buried deep within the inefficient but entertaining anecdotes.

1: 2 Sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for the pans.
2: 3 Cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the pans.
3: 1 Tablespoon baking powder.
4: ½ Teaspoon salt.
5: 1 ¼ Cups sugar.
6: 4 Large eggs, at room temperature.
7: 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract.
8: 1 ¼ Cups whole milk ( or ¾ cup heavy cream mixed ½ cup water )
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees F.
Butter two 9-inch-round cake pans and line the bottom with parchment paper; butter the parchment and dust the pans with flour, tapping out the excess.

Whisk 3 cups flour, the baking powder and salt in a bowl until combined

Beat in the vanilla. ( The mixture may look separated at this point. )

Divide the batter between the prepared pans.

Remove the parchment.
Trim the tops of the cake with a long serrated knife to make them level, if desired.

tbh I never played an instrument and I can sing it just fine. I just take short breaths during the very short pauses in the long run it helps a lot with keeping up with the song's pace.
It’s about well placed breaths. And I’m sure they most likely edit their music heavily. So you won’t hear them taking that gasp for air. Not to mention that you are most likely trying to match her pitch making you use more air while singing. But she saves it because her voice is auto tuned. As well as her having better equipment to record.

Theory time!
The metaphor of "fading to black" is the girl totally losing her mind/ becoming suicidal, and "fading to white" is her fear that if she gets out of this she wouldn't be the same anymore. The song is about her struggle to retain who she is, although the things that make her that way are painful, while everyone is telling her to leave it all behind and start fresh. Too much of either and she would lose herself.

I think the idea is that they’re paralyzed by the potential consequences of their decisions. Regardless of whether they choose either of these completely opposite outcomes, the result is for them to be consumed by it.
It's interesting cuz even the song's name is a metaphor for that. Often times a bad apple isn't an apple that is entirely inedible, but one that has part that need to be cut out for it to be edible. But when is the threshold between living the rot in the apple, cutting it so much there's hardly any of the apple left, and just throwing it all away?

I just realized how creative a design choice the black and white is. You can do all the 3d animation without worrying about the visual detail like coloring and shading. Thankfully, Touhou's characters are distinct enough that you can still distinguish them easily in this style

Same. I used to feel like that when I first heard this song, and it became a very important song to me. Then a friend of mine introduced me to Pop'n Music, and this song is actually in Pop'n Music with Reimu as the rival character. I ended up associating Reimu with this song after playing it in Pop'n Music so much, and then I got into Touhou and now I'm training to become a shrine maiden myself and my mood is so much better! This song single handedly turned me into a shrine maiden! It's not easy being a shrine maiden, but it's a very fulfilling purpose to work towards. With enough focus, dedication, and patience, anything is possible!
