  • Different odd and even headers - footers in Word 2010
How-to: Use different headers and footers in odd and even-numbered pages in Microsoft Word 2010 [tutorial]
Open the header or footer of one of your pages and from the "Design" tab, the "Options" section, check Different Odd & Even Pages.
Notice how the tag on the header (footer) changes of the first page changes to Odd Page Header (Footer).
The tag on the header (footer) of the second page is now Even Page Header (Footer).
Now you can type the header (footer) you would like to use in your odd and even-numbered pages.
If you use a different header (footer) for your first page by checking the Different First page button, notice how the tag on the header (footer) of your first page changes to First Page Header (Footer).
You can now set the even page header (footer) in the second page of your document and the odd page header (footer) in the third page.
By clicking on the Insert Alignment Tab button, you can align your header or footer to the left, center, or right and set the leader to dots, dashes, a straight line etc.
Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

Thank you for your kindness to share your knowledge. That's superb tutorial. At the moment I can figure out how important even and odd page to create different page number position. We just open header or footer --> design --> click different odd & even pages.

I'm having trouble with making different headers, but keeping consistent page numbers.

Hi, let me know what's the problem. Headers should be unrelated to page numbers that i assume are at the bottom of every oage. Make sure you are not also editing footers.

@@winoffice I tried making Continuous breaks before chapter pages. That did help.

Does not mention footers. How do you get an odd/even header without an odd/even footer?

I'll try to find out if it's possible and let you know in a few days.

Hi again. After doing some digging, i believe the only way you can use different odd/even headers without odd/even footers, is by setting a common footer, that is setting the same footer for both odd and even pages. Let me know what you are trying to do (page numbering at the bottom of a word document's pages, for example, should be obvious and pretty simply) and perhaps i can help.
