  • How to have different headers in Word. This easy to follow tutorial demonstrates how to have different headers on a page. You can also use the same method to format footers too. You might be working on a document, report, book or thesis and therefore may need to use different header snap footers for chapters, sections or pages of your document. In this tutorial I show you how to change the headers and footer for - just the front page, opposite pages and each different page.

For people using Windows, the procedure is: LAYOUT > BREAKS > SECTION PAGE > NEXT PAGE
... and then... INSERT > HEADER > EDIT HEADER > "Uncheck" the "Same as previous" button.
This is a GREAT tutorial. I am using headers as titles on piles of 3x5 cards that I am printing directly on my laser printer, and now I can keep them all in one file with separate sections instead of lots of separate files. I LOVE this technique. Also, I have always used "View > Normal" to get out of Header/Footer view, but now I know to just doubleclick on the page. You're the best!

Could not for the life of me figure out why only the second half of the headers in our doc updated.
There was a section break for formatting on the signatures page, so when our employee updated the header later in the document it automatically unlinked that section and only updated the second half.
