Thank you for sharing your personal clothes story with us and also thank you for being so honest and humble about it. I am nearly 30 years older than you and I am learning from you. I am on a journey about my own clothes style right now, which has to do with adjusting to getting older and deciding if and how I want to dress differently, making decisions about what I want for myself. All this is more than about clothes, it is indeed about identity. So thanks again ❤
This is so interesting to me, as someone who has grown up with you, I have always thought you were so stylish and unique. To hear that you were struggling during the time where I was looking up to your outfit choices was surprising but in a good way. We are all growing, but honestly, you have always been stylish to me. Your style now is so effortlessly chic and I’m all here for it 👌👌😘
As a stay at home mother of 4 myself (all grown up and out of home) I think I have a style similar to yours. I have a lot of hand-me-downs from my mum who is a compulsive shopper (in spite of being 82) and lately I have become very selective about what I purchase and what I take from my mother. I like to take my time to see what trends stick before going shopping for them. I love shopping at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
I really enjoyed this video! Seeing your style evolution as you’ve grown into an adult was so much fun. You are a beautiful woman, inside and out, and that’s apparent in all your videos.
Thank you for sharing your style evolution and what you were thinking throughout these periods in your life. You have many pictures, Thank you for sharing with us. Your beauty shines incandescently through, no matter what you were wearing! I truly mean that.
what you have *four* children 😱 thought you were 21 y/o but 32!! you looked very youthful. I think you should go with bangs again cuz it suits you a lot 😸 my wardrobe epiphany / inspiration starts when I studied abroad. it was 6 years ago. idk where and how I learn about good quality garments but I watched such random videos like this back then. somehow it taught me something haha. I'm glad where I am now with my style, I'm pretty confident and satisfied with my wardrobe choices
Just one more comment! Your style is actually very refreshing to see. There are so many capsule wardrobers here sporting many of the same styles which are almost more work wear/office inspired. I followed suit for a while only to find myself feeling very out of place! I think your style is classy in its own way and rather refreshing in a world full of trends! I also had a period of time where I dressed quite vintage and loved it at that time. 😻😽
🐈 This was so interesting to see Val. I started to look through old photos and it really helped me to understand and see where my comfortable place was and is with my fashion choices 😌 I had hand me downs and second hand clothing too as a child. I remember my first job and doing a lay-by of a deep burgundy pure wool bolero cardigan it took me 6 pay weeks to get it! I loved it. Can not remember what happened to it now though🤔. I was married and pregnant very young (still in my teens) so money was tight. But remember always looking neat, as did my son. Then 4 years later with my daughter too. Being so young I had body issues though I dropped weight very quickly, I had a bigger bust (breast fed for a very long time) and had a few stretch marks which I absolutely struggled with for a long time too. Now I am very selective in my fashion choices. Love thrifting 😄 Thank you so much for taking me down my memory lane with you. Absolutely loved this video💜
Now i'm 32 and i'm pregnant for my firt baby (i'm so exciting..) i find recently my style, is casual like your,i felt so confy with this type of chothes simple, minimalism but but color. I love all your outfits!
Great video Val! 😻 I love your current style, it's very similar to mine. Thank you for sharing your style journey, and all the lovely photos. As far as being self conscious about your small chest when you were younger, I was very self conscious for the exact opposite reason. I had a very tiny and petite overall body frame, but at 11 years old, I developed a very full and large chest, which I was harassed and teased mercilessly about.... so in order to try and minimize things, I would walk with my shoulders all hunched over, which set the stage for me to develop terrible posture.... even to this day, and I just turned 57 on May 6. I'm going to back up just a bit. There is a very strong maternal history of breast cancer in my family. My grandmother, mother and 3 maternal aunts died from breast cancer at early ages.... so when I was 37, I was told that I had a better than 80% chance of developing breast cancer...so I chose to have them removed and reconstructed. I had the implants for 16 and a half years, and always hated them from day one. I had mystery illness after mystery illness, long story short, the implants were making me very sick and had to be removed. That was a little over 3 years ago... I chose not to replace the implants with new ones... instead I chose to go completely natural and flat. I asked my surgeon to leave my nipples and the extra skin so at least I had something....and I'm so glad I made that decision. Even though my shirts and tops don't fit me exactly how they're supposed to... I feel better and more comfortable in my clothes now more than ever! 😊😻
Hi Val, just wanted to say that perhaps that “rebel side” comes from being the youngest in the family… from my experience our youngest sibling always wanted to be different from everyone else haha sorry for the random comment! Thanks for showing us your style journey ❤️🇦🇺 PS. Bangs really suits you! 🐱🐯
I'm going through my first pregnancy currently, and I'm really struggling to still feel stylish and good about the clothes I wear. I appreciate your videos and the inspiration they give me that I can still dress for comfort and style as a mom! 🐱
Hi Val, just watched your video and I can relate to many of the things you covered. As you know, my parents came to the UK after WW2, so I too am of East European descent. I think it must be genetics - on my paternal side (definitely not my maternal!!), that me and my paternal cousins all have a small bust (only time my bust got bigger was during my three pregnancies and then it was sooo uncomfortable!!) and as you say are rectangular, in build. I can truly say that I have discovered "my style" in the last 4years! I suddenly had a light bulb moment when we were moving house and I realised that 75% of the clothes that I had, I didn`t wear! I purchased them because they were "fashionable". So, instead of packing and moving them to our new house, I packed them off to the charity shop. And guess what, I managed with the 25% remaining clothes, for nearly two seasons! I don`t wear skirts or dresses, jeans and jumpers in winter, jeans and t-shirts rest of the year. The style of the jeans does vary with the seasons. Flat shoes/boots all year round, don`t like heels!
Also, you look beautiful with short hair and long hair alike. You truly inspire me to cut it short again with a more simple style! Not sure I could brave that again, as I was really unhappy with short hair before. But, that was before my style became what it is becoming now.
Look through Pinterest and see what styles you like. Also be realistic about if it’s a chance you are willing take because you might not like it. I got bangs and a very bad layered cut in January and hated it on me 😂 so I just kept my hair in a ponytail and wore a headband!! Then when the bangs finally grew out some I cut it in a short bob that was fun. I actually like it slightly longer mid length bob (the length now) and yeah it’s just hair. It grows back or can be pulled back or whatever.
I love this. Thank you. First time in my life I am very unsatisfied with my body (after two kids, the last one is two years old). And you videos really help me to put myself together.
Thanks Amma! It's definitely not easy sometimes.. if you want more tips on body fluctuations, I talk about it more in this video here: th-cam.com/video/CYA2b4tl7fU/w-d-xo.html
🐱 I loved this video! I like your channel because you have a relaxed natural style! I think that this is just you but also as a fellow west coast girl I see that more relaxed style here! Keep up the good work! Your family is adorable! 😍
🐈 thank you for sharing! I can certainly relate to the struggle of finding the right clothes to feel good in during pregnancy (currently pregnant). And now I’m thinking about how my clothes afterwards need to allow me access for breastfeeding…lots to consider and difficult to find certain things in my style (which I’m starting to finally pinpoint). The struggle is real!
I love listening to your story and the journey you took to discover style that is comfy and looks great on you! I am going through a life change and needing to start over with my clothes closet. I have gotten so many tips from you as I grow my capsule wardrobe. Thanks ! And always looking forward to your next video.🌺🐆
😸Thank you so much for sharing your journey and putting so much thoughtfulness and vulnerability into it. This was such a beautiful progression to watch, and I love that you are happy with where you are now. A lightbulb when on for me when you said "that's what I thought being stylish was," referring to women in blazers and heels, because I think I've had the same expectation of myself but I also feel uncomfortable in fancier clothing. It feels so freeing to realize that "stylish" can be achieved in casual clothes, too. Thank you so much for this! Also, I think you are so gorgeous and I love that you feel more comfortable in your body now. Keep being you, it's inspiring!
😺It's interesting to see the evolution of your style over the years. I'm much older than you (I have grandchildren) but I identify with much of what you shared about your style journey.
@@ValKovalchuk Hi Val, my wardrobe is a work in progress! I'm in the midst of a 'wear everything in your closet challenge.' It's been eye-opening! 😊 I appreciate your videos and your approach to your TH-cam channel. All the best, Margo

Val, I love your style. I am constantly struggling to find my own and feel very inspired by you! I love the idea of elevated casual 😻😻😻Love your videos!!!
You are beautiful Val, I so enjoyed watching your style journey, your insecurities, which we all have, and the road to acceptance that we are alright just the way we are, you have a beautiful soul.. x 😽
🐱💖 loved the green silk dress! I wonder if you could have dyed it maybe to a black? Sorry I know It’s gone! But I’ve started to think if I love the shape of a dress or an item where the colour isn’t quite working this may be an option. Loved this, possibly one of my favourite videos so far 🌷
Great video Val! I can relate to your style changes over the years. I thought I would like the very traditional dress-up style but I didn’t like the real casual either. I have found I feel the best in between the two like sort of elevated casual? I feel my wardrobe is very similar to yours!
😺It really can take time to come into ourself-- to know & understand our body, thoughts & preferences. Funny thing though, as we age, these things tend to shift again. Perhaps it's best to think of our life & style in phases, dependent on life cycles & interests; oh & health/ wellness. May you enjoy your season!
Hi! I just stumbled across this video and your channel! I desperately need to redo my whole wardrobe, but am struggling with how to balance that with all of our other financial priorities. Sounds like you were on a budget, raising a family, so I’m curious how you may have approached that! ❤️

Hi Val! I replayed your YT wardrobe videos yesterday and it got me thinking: where do you put your t-shirts and camisoles: fold in drawer or hangin in the closet? Because they are fold here but everytime I want to wear them they are all wrinkled. At the same time I have a small closet so I dont have huge place to hang all t-shirt in addition to my clothes. Solution besides ironing them every morning? Thank you so much
I do hang most of my t shirts, but another thing you can try is to fold them the marie kondo way and that way they would have less wrinkles! 🥰 you can google that to see how she does it, that's how I fold most of my loungewear.
cat emoji!! We are opposites. I had my first child at 39; second at nearly 41---- my minimalist style was well established then but I still felt awful style wise post partum LOL.
I felt pretty confident in my overall style this last pregnancy, its just that I didn't want to buy any new maternity clothes since it was going to be my last pregnancy, so I was just trying to get through it with what I already had.. It was fine, just not my favorite season of life style wise 😁😁
@@ValKovalchuk I would really appreciate a video (or several) on how to avoid over-buying - but still dressing myself for the period of time of pregnancy - postpartum - pregnancy and so on. If you think you have lessons learned to share. I have a very different body shape (5'1" and approximately hourglass and about 150 lbs). However, your processes and strategies have proven valuable to me!
I just wanted to say that you make your clothes beautiful; not vice-versa. You are a beautiful spirit. 😊

@@ValKovalchuk its already fold “konmari way”😂its wrinkled
Oh no! 😅 maybe just hang your most favorite t shirts then if you have the room
cat emoji!! We are opposites. I had my first child at 39; second at nearly 41---- my minimalist style was well established then but I still felt awful style wise post partum LOL.
Yes it can be such a hard time! 🐈⬛🐈⬛
🐱Thank you for this video! It was great!
Thanks for watching to the end Sherry! 🐈🥰
How accurate is Everlane sizing. I usually wear a small but am wondering if the Alpaca crew is oversized.
It is a little oversized, the one I have was shrunken a little in the wash when I got it, so it fits a little more slim on me. Its a size small.

Great video! Thank you ❤️

Would you know how you’d style yourself in pregnancy or early postpartum again at this point?
I would recommend you watch this video from Useless: th-cam.com/video/mjrOic8zBoo/w-d-xo.html
She was way more stylish when she was pregnant than me 😅
