For Daren, I had him being an overzealous adventurer. So in his youth, he sought adventure and glory while his childhood sweetheart wanted to start a family and settle down with him. As the years went on, Daren fell to much into adventure that he unknowingly pushed her away. She ends up falling in love with someone else, someone who had time for her and this broke his heart and is what lead to him stopping adventuring. So I have Daren as a man to threw away his best years and the love of his love for adventure and glory which in recent years hasn’t gotten him much. He used his fortune from adventuring to buy land in the newly built settlement of Phandelain and in recent years has been growing his orchard.

Since the tiefling hexblade was saying all the right things when nobody was looking except Daran, the halfelf gave him the halfplate that he had worn in his day with the Order of the Gauntlet.

great video. I'm DMing this campaign as my first DM experience, and now that the party made its way into Phandalin, i'm considering offering Daran as a companion for when the players go into the Redbrand Hideout. There are only 3 PCs in the party, and they had a scout helping (NPC), but she's off doing her own thing at the moment. The players quickly saw that the redbrands are a pain, and already dealt with the ones at the Sleeping Giant after only dropping off the supplies at Barthen's and Lionshield. They already made themselves targets.
I was just debating of Fighter or Paladin was the best for Daran. Again, great videos. Gives me tons of ideas :)

In a campaign i finished as a pc, he was my character’s missing father. That PC died towards the end of the campaign and i returned twenty years later in dragons of icespire peak. My new character is the son of my ild character and quillen alderleaf
