You're deep dives are really helpful to give more depth and clarity for my DMing. Thank you!
Awesome. Thanks. I have a lot now.
Hey, I found your channel RIGHT as me and a small group of my friends started to try out D&D and we've loved it. I've edited a-lot of my LMoP campaign and learnt alot about the game / DM'ing from you and I really appreciate you making these videos. We're just about to do the Wyvern Tor sidequest and have left Phandalin after picking up all the quests and most rumours.
Awesome. You are welcome :)
I read through the whole book twice before I ran the adventure and when we got to Yeemik I looked at the situation and just decided last minute that it didn't make sense to run it as the book suggested. There were 4 player characters and 6 goblins with a hostage, I decided Yeemik thought they could win and didn't try to take Sildar hostage until 4 goblins were dead. Then, he didn't betray the characters because there were only 2 goblins left and would have meant his death if killed Sildar. My reasoning was that Yeemik would be too afraid to betray Klarg on the chance that a party of 4 who probably couldn't beat his posse could take on Klarg and his crew. I was thinking about how hard the party struggled and almost died in the goblin ambush and just figured against 6 goblins they have even less of a chance, even if two the players got surprise (which they did). Two got surprise and came in one entryway and the other two followed behind a rounder later from the other side. So, at first Yeemik thought there were only two characters not four against him so the scenario played out very differently than the book suggested. What Yeemik didn't know was that Klarg was already dead. The players had climbed up the chute and got the drop on Klarg already. So, Yeemik held Sildar at knifepoint while the other goblin checked on their story. He followed them almost all the way out the cave, with a spear at Sildar's back the whole time.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
1st time Dm here. Our bard was able to charm Yeemik and save Sildar. Not only that she managed to tie up up in a bondage style rope harness with a handle and the Barbarian goliath carried him and pumped him for info until the charm spell was gonna wear off and he decapitated him
So all went well. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I know this video is old but I just started running this campaign with some friends and they struck a deal with Yeemik despite Sildar's pleas. I made Yeemik true to his word on letting Sildar go after they deal with Klarg. I went along with that so I could bring Yeemik back into the story at some point later.
Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts. Lost Mine of Phandelver DM Tutorials start back up in a few weeks.
My party had a similar experience. They defeated Klarg for Yeemik, and when they returned to Yeemik he tried to extort a ransom from them. But his henchmen were killed, and he was essentially pinned in room 6. He wasn't in a position to bargain without getting killed, even with Sildar as a hostage. So he capitulated and fled. I'll bring him back with a scrappy warband later, maybe with an ogre in tow
My bard/cleric snuck past the goblins that they happened to catch asleep in yeemiks cave, one held the other hostage and melted yeemik in one hit and promptly healed Sildar with some high rolls, and now their 2 person party is up to 3 😂
Good for you. Thanks for sharing your story.
I just played this yesterday gosh darn it
Sorry Ryan. Going as fast as I can.
Great channel! Currently first time DM for 3 semi-experienced players and 2 newbs to fantasy, and I'm running LMoP. I didnt do my research and after session one they've killed all 4 goblins, only learning general location of hideout and names of goblin leaders. They skipped to barthen, got paid, and I ended it at the entry to the inn. I'm looking for suggestions to drive them to go back to the goblin hideout. I'm thinking Barthen bursts into their room to discuss 'in private' out of fear of redbrands, telling them they need to save Gundren. Since I wasn't prepared for Phandalin, I didnt know who knew what, so the players haven't learned anything yet either.
Thanks. Watch my video on "Why help Gundren?"
Your character profile vids are great, really helping me flesh out the story and make it more engaging for my first time dm'ing with some first time players
I am glad they have been useful to you.
@@HowtoRPG we just had session one, and going into cragmaw hideout, the goblin in the blind behind the trees hit my player in the neck and took him to 1hp on a crit xD. It already slowed me that no amount of planning will get me ready to improv when they go off the rails. Im having a ton of fun so far
@@masonsayers7437 You got it. It's really impractical to explain or show a DM how to improvise, you have to do it.
@@HowtoRPG of course haha, so far my theater background from high school seems to be helping! Anyways, signing off for the night, thanks again!
I really enjoy your videos
Thank you.
Keep up the great content and I'm interested in how your collaborations go!
Thanks. Some are looking good, others are not in the collaborations.
I can't watch the whole video but I'd like to add my own changes to Yemik. First, I have him always be the captured goblin from the ambush. Either the players chose to capture one goblin or I arrange for one to go unconscious. Then I have him tell them that he can help them if they help him. They strike a deal where his goblins help in the fight against klarg and those loyal to him. I also always have a few hobgoblin with klarg so the fight is still interesting. Afterwards Yemik will establish himself as leader of the hideout and help the party kill king Grol. Once he killed Klarg he starts talking about the "Goblin revolution" where he wants to free the common Goblins from oppression through the Bugbears and hobgoblins.
Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Could you do one of these on droop the goblin from the red brand hideout in part two?
Maybe.
Why not let him show up later at cragmaw castle. Besieging it or controling it
Do what ever you want 😀
My group dropped yeemit on the first round one of the rouge nat 20 on a sneak attack and drop him. So yeah I lost a lot of messing with that.
That sort of thing can happen. I hope you don't think you wasted your time, watching the video.
Not at all knowing more is always then knowing lesss.
Is there a player's video for this?
I did not consider making a player guide for the Lost Mine of Phandelver. The answer is no, but I am thinking about it now.
I have to ask.... whats up with the hat?
