      Hi, a question regarding the hardware..
      I am building a ton of stuff with Raspberry Pi (automated boats/subs, machines etc) and wondering - why don't you use them?
      A pi is significantly cheaper than this flight controller and even allows you to code your logic in it or do some remote stuff through LTE. I am using it with big success on boat drones, but of course, those are different than planes - maybe you have some words to it ;D
      (mainly cuz at the beginning things often crash/blow up/..and that's expensive;DD)

      5.8 GHz is illegal at 600mW in Europe and is also the wrong frequency for long range fpv. Go for the 800MHz band which is also illegal but works 😊 It is vital in hobby long range (illegal!) to have permanent live stream and 360deg view with a moving cam for airspace control. I will never advise to do this! A glider colliding with a drone can lead to catastrophic events causing fatalities. I think no hobby is worth this! And no ego should be bigger than that.

    • @Zoey_the_Rat
      @Zoey_the_Rat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not really, wings are tougher to balance, fly worse in terms of stability and are generally less efficient than conventional designs due to wing sweep and reflex, which are needed if you want it to fly at all. Dolphin and nanogoblin are very smart exceptions to this rule though

    • @AeroStuffFPV
      @AeroStuffFPV  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      FPV Flying wings are more efficient than conventionals & V-Tails (No fuselage, empenage/stabilizers, less weight), but are trickier to balance (narrow CG tolerance). No need to reflex when balanced perfectly or slightly tail-heavy. This particular design does just 2.4-2.8A to cruise without losing altitude. My V-Tail's, Twin-Booms & Conventionals aren't keeping up on that. @@Zoey_the_Rat

    Love this design. One if my favourite foam board wings is the FT Spear. Your plane takes that and builds on it. Weaknesses of the Spear are it won't take a large battery and air to the prop is dirty with the blunt back end. You've addressed both those issues. Moving that motor back allows larger batteries and the tapered back end really helps with clean air. You can hear in your video how quiet it is for a pusher. I found the Spear flies better with the larger center vertical stablizers. Less yawing around. Would be interesting to try that on your plane. Regardless, you've built a nice looking wing. Docile and stable.

    • @AeroStuffFPV
      @AeroStuffFPV  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Sharp Eyes! This design was indeed inspired by the FT-Spear, I love the pratical 'central-pod' idea of the Spear, in relation to other flying wings, which have everything built in the wing-structure itself. Note that the hand-launch adjuct acts as an additional stabilizer, which eliminates the need for additional stabilizers on the wings. Less pretty, but practical & safe!

    Man, this is insanely great. I've never built a drone before, and I've just gotten really interested in FPV after seeing what the Ukrainians have done with drones to fight Putin and rock his oil industry. My dad used to build RC planes, he was an engineer. I'm a computer science student, and I love flight sims. But an autonomous drone? Very cool. Subbed you, you rule, man.

  • @AerialWaviator
    @AerialWaviator 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A very impressive design. It reminds me somewhat of blended wing designs. Evolving the fuselage pod to be more 'blended' aerodynamically may offer additional efficiencies. A possible future experiment, once have learnt how well and optimized the Silver Heron's performance.
    Thanks for sharing and providing inspiration to many. ♥😎👍

    • @ArneChristianRosenfeldt
      @ArneChristianRosenfeldt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like the cone tail. It gathers most of the boundary layer and reaccelerates it to avoid flow separation and turbulence in the wake. A blended wing cannot do this. Twin boom and flying wings have this pusher prop. Let's utilize it to the max. The fuselage needs a nose point slightly downwards like on Sukhoi fighter . Then it inherits camber from the airfoil of the wing. Cone points downwards to the back.

    Well done videos as always. I like your videos because they are informative, straightforward, and lack the extra fluff that is just not required. Quick tip for future videos- your discussing the mAhr figure is misleading to those who probably don't know better, which is likely +95% of your viewership. YES, you CAN, as you do, use this number BEGIN to discuss endurance with certain size batteries, but there are two problems with that- that discussion is NOT to be confused with actual efficiency of flight, and- your mAhr/km will change dramatically given the weight of the battery in UAV's like this, as the weight of the batteries are a very significant % of the total. Anyhow, efficiency calculations require power being consumed, not current, and you also need either good distance or time and velocity information as well as the total weight of the UAV. There is enough information here (when combined with one simple guess/rounding number) to calculate power a few ways. I arrived at 62.6 and 63.6 average watts. I don't know the weight of this UAV, but given the 83.7 Seconds average time to cover 1km, you used 5,281 Joules per km. Joules and Weight - NOW you can start to discuss true aerodynamic efficiency. Lastly, there are ALL KINDS of Aerodynamic efficiency calculations to make, so it is always good to provide enough information so that people can understand your figures, and use them to compare to others. For example, in package delivery, they only thing they really want to know the total energy per kg*km. In other areas, like surveillance, duration is paramount, and many hours are expected, and you talk about total energy per hour given a certain payload and speed... etc., etc. Anyhow, this is just a technicality compared to all you do, keep up the good work.

All of the places in the USA on the East Coast only have the pink 1/2in insulation boards and i cant find any good online places to get boards that are already cut to the depth i need. I dont mind having to shave down a huge insulation board but the boards you use in the video make so much more sense than making my room into a huge mess.

    First, another awesome vid; many thanks and keep up the great work!
    Second, mainly inspired by you I’m building a long range rc plane as well. Due to this vid I stopped testing my previous build and started on a wing as well.
    I’ve been going back and forth on the design because I really like larger diameter prop (less noise, greater efficiency), but especially with a wing now, I’m afraid I’ll kill the prop on every landing.
    Your ‘hand toss handle’ (as seen in your latest vid) seems to have saving props as a welcome ‘side effect’. But drag and nose down pitch tendency were holding me back. Guess i should ignore that as you’ve demonstrated those impressive results!
