  • Breaking news: local girl geeks out for 11 minutes straight about Crowded House.
Okay, seriously, though, this album means a lot to me and in this video I explain why, hopefully with some degree of coherence. All Crowded House photos/videos/music obviously is not owned by me, just a fan trying to share the love here. :) Please leave a like or comment if you enjoyed!

My favorite too, by a large margin.

Great video Sasha! I recently saw this on vinyl used at a local record store which is rare to see. I grabbed it with plans to get to know it better, and your insights will provide an excellent companion. I must however disagree with your statement that you don't have a musical bone in your body. You clearly live and breathe music! It's in your soul..

You mention the better be home soon as one which people think is about coming home from holidays, I should add that I also thought that 'when you come' was about coming home :D Before I got to a certain age at least. I love how in depth this was. These sort of long form reviews are becoming more popular these days. There is not enough of this in depth analysis! Hope you can visit to Melbourne, LA, Auckland soon - and you may get closer to the sources of the beauty you find in Neil's songwriting.

Thanks for your kind words! I have indeed been lucky enough to visit LA, Melbourne and Auckland and actually was planning on doing graduate school in New Zealand before the pandemic hit. :( Glad you enjoyed though and I may do more of these in the future cause I could talk about CH forever!

@@sashalawrence Te Awamutu is a great piece of pilgrimage too. There's a museum there. And a beautiful big volcanic mound nearby called Mt Kakepuku.

Adore so much of this album, so much appreciation for this video. Your presentation style is so smooth, I'm surprised you don't have many more subscribers.

Love your passion, Sasha. Reminds me of my own passion for Neil's work when I was your age. Embrace it! Love to see your thoughts on non-CH Neil albums like FINN, Rain soundtrack, or the Seven Worlds collabs with Eddie Vedder et al.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm definitely planning on doing a Finn video when the vinyl for it comes out, hopefully later this year! Glad you enjoyed!

Brilliant underrated album. One of my faves of all time and one of the 5 discs in my car on constant rotation. Beautiful analysis by someone with great taste and obviously wise beyond her years.

Temple of Low Men is to Crowded House what Pinkerton was to Weezer; snarkier, darker and more introspective with less self-awareness.
It's not my favourite CH album but I agree with your commentary on what you consider to be the strengths of the album because the obvious thing to do would have been to just do a tighter and more polished version of their debut.

Love this album. I think Woodface is my fav....love the Neil and Tim Finn combo of songwriting and vocals. Are you familiar with the Split Enz catalogue/ art work? Gave Neil his foundation.
He is wasted with Fleetwood Mac

Yeah, I was actually into Split Enz before I was into CH! I love that new wave sound. I was initially skeptical about the Fleetwood Mac thing too, but after seeing him with them a few times I was sold. I'm glad he's doing a new CH album, but it was wonderful seeing him have such a blast with FM - and dare I say it, I think Neil singing Go Your Own Way was better than the original. :)

@@sashalawrence find most of FM music boring and monotonous...Neil’s talent is wasted there.

Great analysis! My favorite album too. I believe I read in Something so Strong that TOLM was a euphemism for a part of the female body 🤪 Sorry for that creepy comment.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. I really would like to do one for the Finn album that’s going to be reissued on vinyl soon but at the moment I’m travelling so we’ll see when that happens :)
