I love how much he drives home how Black music has influenced him every chance he gets. It’s important and he never misses a moment to contextualize where his sound came from. ❤️🙌🏾
I've seen a lot of Hozier interviews, and this one was so good. Scott is great at not putting too much of himself in the interview but enough to feel personable and genuine. And the questions themselves were really spot on and good solid asks. Great interview.
Hearing “there aren’t very many paparazzi in Ireland” I think about that also with Harry Styles, it’s good to hear that artists get to have the lives to themselves that they want, but it makes it so much more clear to me that LA culture and America normalized stalking celebrities and needing to know what they’re doing at all times, even if it’s nothing to do with their artwork. I think about how some people may feel like through social media they may need to be constantly doing something public or “noteworthy” to seem busy and justify their popularity and it’s exhausting and sad to think that tabloid culture made so much money off of celebrities that it’s normalized to not let them have even a bit of privacy as if we’re entitled to their every second. I’d much rather you be beekeeping, swimming, quietly reading undisturbed at home.
They're artists in the 2nd place. They are people first and foremost. Glad some folks can be artists and live a decent life. They enhance our lives... wish we didn't have to impinge on theirs.
Loved this interviewer because you can tell he did his research! I appreciated hearing Hozier reflect on how hard he worked to promote his first single and album vs. it being solely about the Internet virality. And it was interesting hearing him try to grasp the surreality of being a touring artist living between words. I can't wait to hear the other songs that didn't make it on Unreal Unearth!
Very polite of Hozier to not get aggravated with his interviewer. Andrew would explain something about his life (the fact he talked all about how in Ireland, his friends from school call him Hozier since 12 vs traveling and doing interviews he’s Andrew etc (34:37) etc). Then be asked, “I’m sure at home you’re Andrew an not Hoz..” 🤦🏾♀️(34:52). He did this so much I stopped watching right after. Love to listen to Hozier interviews but 😣.
Great interview, but I have to comment on the typical New Yorker thing to say, that everyone works in NY but only a handful of people work in LA outside of musicians and actors. How ridiculous. Hozier even seemed baffled by that statement. I'm with Hozier when it comes to Sinéad O'Connor - what a terrible loss. She was a treasure and definitely had an impact on my life.
Such an insightful interview that captured Hozier's journey, from his own talent to his influences. Loved the top 5 (or, 7-8) at the end and the Red Rocks shoutout. A remarkable album and artist. Can't wait for the tour.
He mentions a music festival in Dingle. I looooved Dingle. Definitely a gorgeous town in Ireland. I was lucky enough to travel around Ireland for my Honeymoon (we are since divorced, but it was such an undeniably magical trip). I joked with the keepers of the B & B …”you’ll want to Dangle in Dingle” 🤣🤣🤣✨✨✨But really, this is about Hozier. One of my most favorite artists today. He and Miley Cyrus and Florence and the Machine, as well as The Lumineers. 🫶🏼💓✨😌
I think the bog daddy thing comes from the feeling a lot of us get from aspects of your music feeling connected to nature? Certain lines I think stick with us and lead to us feeling a connection to the land in a really visceral way.
Great little chat! That background framed cover though, what is that as a universal background hahaha. Super distracting & juxtaposed against Andrew's gentleness. Sorry for the tiny critique I just find it funny. ;) Fab interview; thanks! Lucky you to chat with the man for a bit; he's a real one.
I have a question… Why on the planet is talking about Sinead part of the title when it takes nearly an hour for her to come up in the conversation? That’s misleading. Although I do really respect and admire what Hozier said about her, about how powerful she was and how taken for granted. Maybe because she unabashedly pushed us way out of our comfort zones. He vindicated himself by putting her in his the top five however. (also impressed that Thin Lizzy made his list ) Honestly, I never really listened to this guy because I thought he was immediately over commercialized. I saw him on television one time and thought he was utterly full of himself, but he vindicated himself in this interview. You still shouldn’t have put Sinead in the title of the video, that was taking advantage of her legacy by using her as Clickbait. From someone from Ireland who views her as their hero, and was in the top 2% of listeners of her music last year. 🙏
One of the reasons the world embraces the pure magic hoziers lyrics, poetry and songs are is because of that exact reason they spoke of that many of us ate looking for the feeling now in our lives and hua music allows us to feel so much
Absolutely incredible interview. I loved hearing about Hozier's early influences and the level of respect that he has for music and the artists was palpable throughout, but especially in the compiling of those lists at the end. An absolute joy.

He is just about the kindest most beautiful human I've ever heard of. The way he moves, sings, writes, interacts. Great interview, though not sure how much of a fan of Phil Lynott he is. Hozier doesn't pronounced Phil's surname correctly - the Irish way, and the way Phil did vs the English/US way.
@spacebar9733 well you should be more understanding then! I want to WATCH the podcast and all I said was the background is annoying. Who gives a fuck?!

Its actually insane how much I love him😭
He’s kind of the perfect man, perfect human.
This is one of the best interviews of @hozier 🖤✨
Great interview! Hozier so awesome...
Planxty and Bothey Band 😲👏👏👏 but I hate this interviewer trying to make Hozier number his favourites, that was annoying ffs
"okay, I'll burn my boats to move forward" - is that a quote or something or he just talks like that 😮😮😮😮
It’s probably a quote but he also 100% just talks like that.
Beautiful sharing of Sinead O’Connor
A genuine man. None of the ego and nonsense you get from so many artists. An impressive guy.
Just such a great interview... different vibe than most... but same vibe that the man always brings... his pure self. Love you darling Andrew!
