The soundtrack and Helen shiver’s chase scene is the reason why this movie is so iconic hands down best scene never made in horror movie
One of my favorite horror classics. Helen's chase scene is my favorite part. A very frightening scene. Especially when she's running and the moment when Ben comes around that corner with the hook. 😯😯❤️
The never seen before "making of" footage of Helen's chase scene is GOLD. Love it. It would be great if there were additional footage with a sort of "anatomy of a scene" scope that focused on the full, comprehensive making of the sequence and really dissected it.
I didnt like the death scene too much flashy lights and couldnt see crap that was going on except for loads of tires

she turns around again but hes not there and she runs into the crowd and collapses and people huddle around her and thats it. Julie doesn't see her or anything. I guess its implied that she has a breakdown or something. in the original script elsa's death is off screen/not described, only her body is found like in the final version. Also the police car scene in Scream 2 is in the original IKWYDLS script for Helen. The killer drives the copy car/crashes it.@@Torrez371
I want to tear up listening to Kevin mention this era of filmmaking, but it really was so special. It's not just a nostalgia. I'm telling you, horror storytelling looks and feels amazing when you see it through the techniques of this era. It's shot on celluloid, the colors are incredible, the way things look when they're shadowy is completely different than what you would get with a modern digital camera. Then there's the editing, the cinematography, the pacing, that intense string score that matches each shot effortlessly... you can see that everything is being done at such a masterful level here, and it has a huge impact on the film. 90s filmmaking is truly a lost art.
90s everything was peak culture. After 99 everything went downhill. The absolute golden age.
This cast was beyond perfect. I loved everything Kevin Williamson did. I was obsessed with this film when I was 12. 🔥

Say all you want. it was a great movie, but the soundtrack, which by the ways needs a vinyl release, is a masterpiece. The track "The night softly whispers" when Julie is sitting in her living room at night with the note is chilling. Back in the day when we didn't have anything in Poland, I used to sit with a tape recorder next to my TV and recorded the best parts of the soundtrack. That's how much I was devoted to horror movies. I still am, but the "having things" aspect has totally changed.

Jim is so right, the entire scene with Helen's cat and mouse chase is so well written, paced, shot, everything about it works so so well. There's been nothing like it since! That scene needs to be studied, we're overdue for a new slasher with an entertaining chase scene.
Ryan and Sarah made this movie a big hit. Hands down.

The TV show is the biggest mistake. They will ruin the franchise. Cancel the cast. Cancel production. Bring on part 4 for cinemas and make your millions profit !!!!bring back Jennifer love Hewitt!!!!

I saw the first one when I was 5y with my older sister. Our parents where out for dinner and told my sister NO horror movie and guess who got a call to come home early because little me couldn’t sleep cuz there was a fisherman under the bed trying to kill me lol 🥷🏽🪝🪝

That’s just make watching it even more annoying knowing it wasn’t even the director or writer vision to have her escape what a joke enjoy your extra kill that added nothing to the film expect annoying people and killing the franchise really. Justice for Helen really had weight to it 😂 I don’t get why she didn’t get the Dewey treatment from scream and fans that liked her could’ve complained with test screen this was the same guy. If it was test screened she would’ve lived 100% like scream with Dewey she was scream Gale who I like more than Sidney bc Gale a subversive character like Helen you won’t find another one of them in a horror film

The sequels weren’t the same without Kevin Williamson (Screenwriter) and Jim Gillespie (director)

I really don't like how people kept saying how it was sad Helen died. When she helped dumped Ben Willis's dead body in the water. Like yeah I know she was well liked. But that was not cool what they did to a man's assumed dead body. Only Julie seemed to care.

I remember only seeing the second one more, my first introduction to Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was fresh off her hit show Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Completely forgot Ryan Phillipe was in this next to the late Anne Heche and Bridgette Wilson
They filmed it both in California and North Carolina
Had no idea it was based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan
I remember dad gave the movie a C, Roger Ebert only praised the first scene
This obviously followed the 90s slasher revival craze after 'Scream' brought it back, same writer was Kevin Williamson
Funny how Sarah Michelle Gellar died twice in both this and 'Scream 2' the same year
The fisherman is your standard slasher villain
It's too bad the sequels failed right after and the Amazon prime series but they managed to spoof it in 'Scary Movie'
Hewitt's screaming can be a be aggravating but this has a hip soundtrack, memorable lines, and a straightforward plot about an accident turned into a nightmare
My favorite scene is Gellar trying to outrun the fisherman killer
Gruesome kills but seem tame by comparison, thankfully a slew of fresh actors make the material watchable
Director Jim Gillespie admits taking time was the key to the first movie's success; getting to know the main players before they get attacked, characters in a movie don’t have to be likeable, and I like that each of them are flawed and a little self-involved - they are teenagers after all
That's why every other follow up failed and was a rushed cash grab (studio execs getting greedy)
Even Mike Flanagan was approached at one point to remake it but over time it fell by the wayside
IKWYDLS actually made over $100 mil.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was the best talent who gave the best performance in this movie. The chase scene from where the cop is killed, she busts out of the squad car and runs to her family's store, with the killer in pursuit. It's just brilliant!
I recently learned how the Director, the Scottish guy, seen here, Jim Gillespe. Treated Prinz Jr like sh@7, because he was chosen for the role by the producers over his choice of actor that they didn't want. So he made life on set, Hell for Freddie Prinz Jr

Helen should have been the final girl! Sarah Michelle gellar could have taken the franchise so much further
They need to revive the franchise have Helen survive she’s one of the most talked about horror victims there’s no other victim death that’s been more argued with than Helen shivers no victim ever been argued to be the main character. If they reboot it revive the series so Helen shivers lives and survives be the final girl or have her love with Julie Helen shivers would be ionic as her deaths been so debated and anguished for so long. Either add more scenes to it where she survives or do a remake start fresh change some stuff where Helen survives make her chase more jaw dropping that she lives the shock would be incredible. #ikwydls #reviveikwydls #justiceforhelen
