Think of this: 1999 was 34 years after the Dead and Airplane began and in this super nova one has Lesh and Kaukonen playing beyond brilliantly-and Kimock-mixing it up with these two stellars on a recording that screams joy.
my favorite Jorma song! It takes me back to high school......and so beautifully done this way......Jeez..................such an incredible guitarist........and vocalist!!!!!
I was lucky to attend both of the shows that ended up on this CD. Just fantastic. This song was the highlight. The guitar interplay between Jorma and Steve is one of my favorite all-time jams.
This specific performance happily proved to me that there was real life in the music of the Grateful Dead after the death of Jerry Garcia...Kimock soars here and the band is so with him.
I remember an interview with Jerry where he said that if anyone could ever fill his guitar playin' shoes, it would be Kimock, aand he was not bullshittin' Steve did such great things, amd probably still is, I'd imagine...haven't really been keeping up lately
Thank you Phil. We thought we we're all gonna be Mason's Children bricked in the wall until you busted it back open!!!!!! We Loved You More Than Words Can Tell. Peace and Love to Jill and your boy's and family.
Nice! Always liked this song. When I was little, used to listen to it on my parents' "Worst Of JA" CD. I've got tickets for a Jorma show in the Fall. I wanna hear this one :)
Steve Kimock has shades of Jerry Garcia and Bill Frisell in his playing here (but a wonderful guitarist in his own right, obviously!). Jorma, and Steve (and Jerry and Bill)! What's not to love!
Pnce shared an apartment with Jorma. He practiced incessantly, obviously working for perfeection. It shows. His vocal tempos are very hard to sing along with, like Dylan and Willie Nelson...
Wow! I guess I wasn't paying enough attention lo these many years ago. Thanks so much for posting this tune and Light of the World. Both are just phenomenal. Too bad this show doesn't seem to be on Archive.org. Is it posted anywhere else? Beautiful. Thanks again.
This gave me goosebumps all those years ago watching it in person and it still does today.
The best guitar solo ever

Man oh man, I just LOVE Kimock here. Good God. Lovely.

I was there both nights too. Camped in the redwoods at night under the stars. Unforgettable.
So good in every way. Thank you Phil.
Fantastic version, and Kimock's just flying on this.
One of Jerry's favorite guitarist was Kimmock. 😢 Miss my brother Jerry.
Just listened to Jorma and Phil and Friends doing this from the other night and this one is so much better.
Kimock sounds like Garcia before he turned 30. BTW: that's a big compliment.
best version i ever heard, love kimock on this
Indeed, because of Steve

This album gave me hope, after the loss.
There is a lot of really great stuff on here.

It was a cd, so that's why it's not on archive. Might be on Spotify or Apple Music
Two recordings on archive archive.org/details/PhilLeshandFriends?and[]=date:1999-06-05%2A
Kimock is super sick , this is the Filet Of Phil.
Prime, not Choice and certainly nor Select.
