      Not too sure. I’d presume that he would feel disappointed and betrayed, but it would be to late to back out of their agreement, because the original promise to restore the Qing empire was broken. Not too sure though.

    • @zack2804
      @zack2804 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He was delusional. He genuinely believed that the Japanese would put him back on the throne. The worst atrocities like Unit 731 were all conducted in Manchukuo, which were (likely) approved by Puyi. There's no way he was oblivious to what was happening.

    • @therookie8872
      @therookie8872 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He viewed him and the imperial family well and was treated well by them but understood their intentions with him. He was oblivious to a lot of things because at the end of the day he was a puppet and had little to no freedom. Though of course this comes from his biography, of which it’s authenticity has been questioned, though I believe it’s legitimate.

      What about the Manchu restoration? Doesn’t that outdate the death of hongxian emperor yuan Shikai by a year making Puyi the last emperor.

    • @ShangDiAboveGodhood
      @ShangDiAboveGodhood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thehistorynerd4845 No, and I will explain why. First and Foremost for Religious Reason. The entirety of the qing manju dynasty is illegitimate to begin with, but Hongxian Emperor's sacrificing to 昊天上帝 was the Definitive Deed and Ultimate Reason he is (so far) the latest Emperor of China (I don't just mean 大皇帝 which is the title he bore - I mean the Perennial 天子. To be extremely technical, puyi's title would only have reached up to the altaic calque 撐犁孤塗). That act alone is of such great merit that most Han do not truly fathom its Eternal Significance. Not to mention the manju restoration was much more of a political fiasco, and bulk of that effort transitioned to manchukuo which is not China.

    • @thehistorynerd4845
      @thehistorynerd4845 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ShangDiAboveGodhood the Qing dynasty despite being Manchu is very legitimate considering the fact that Manchuria is part of modern China. Furthermore, the Qing dynasty was considered the dynasty that ruled China at the time of its existence. That of the Yuan and Jin are recognised to have bore the Mandate of Heaven despite the yuan being Mongolian and the Jin being, like the Qing, Manchu. The hongxian emperor also made no sacrifice as he betrayed his country that he was a general with and collaborated with the rebels. He then betrayed the republic he formed in the formation of the empire of china. And after that he did not voluntarily step down, his armies forced it upon him. During the Manchu restoration the Qing flag flew all over beijing for eleven days. despite having no recognition apart from that of Japanese parties they were very much in control of peking in the 11 days they were there. The only reason Yuan Shikai collaborated with the xinhai rebels was that they promised him the title of president which he could later use to legitimise his Han Chinese empire if China.
