He said himself that that trip to Europe when he was a prince was the happiest time of his life. He was away from the Imperial Household Agency for a while. At home, they would control his every movement and every word. Not much fun being divine, I suppose.

He was a coward right? I got the impression that he didnt voice his opinion in regards to the war in China and subsequent war with US. The only reason he finally said something towards the end of the war was because the cabinet were divided and finally sought his opinion. He was the one that told them to surrendered given Tokyo was being bombed on a daily bases.

@@holyfatboi1016 That from the very beginning, he was opposed to the war with the US but never said anything until he was forced to. The military pretty much did what they liked and he just went with it. The fact the lower brass in Manchuria started a war with China without the government approval pretty much tells you he had no control of anything within his government. They were committing war crimes in his name.

British and Japanese have very similar cultures. First of all, both countries have Monarchs. Both are islands situated off the main continent. Both historically have feudal lords, both have knights & chivalry the Japanese counterpart of which is the Samurai having the Bushido code of honour, both are highly industrialized.

Chivalry is really more of a mainland thing. Thats why its a french word for "Horse Soldier" (and my gut instinct says its an italian idea). No matter how many times they are invaded and genocided the culture of the english will always be on some level Celtic :)
Also why they get along with the Americans who also have a heavy blend of celtic and protestant.

Showa era emperor, Emperor Hirohito, was very lucky to be alive after the WWII. That's because after Russia declared war against Empire of Japan just about 1 week before the surrender, Russia, mainly Stalin, had the intention to not only occupy 4 northern territorial island off Hokkaido, but stalin's plan was to take over Hokkaido and head down the main island of honshuu and occupy nearly 40%, including Tokyo which imperial house was situated. But Stalin's plan did not work out because of outstanding leadership of then 5 star U.S. Army, the Supreme Pacific Commander at that time, General Douglas MacArthur made it clear to Russian side that "if you Russians ever move into Hokkaido, you will pay the price", which he meant was dropping the atomic bomb on them and Russians knew U.S. will not hesitate to use it. So Russians backed off. Then Gen. MacArthur was in charge of Japan until his departure. He approved the constitution revision as well as so many other social programs for the people of Japan to live freely with domocratic concept. He was literally above Emperor Hirohito. Just imagine if Russia took over Japan that time, imperial system could be ruined and replaced by communist leadership. U.S. and General MacArthur did the right thing by preserving the imperial system in Japan.

Do you know why British couldn't get him first? Because they couldn't LOL
They were simply defeated by Japan in 1942 and couldn't push into the Pacific until the Yanks won the war by 1944.
Yeah, it was the Yanks that deserved to set foot on Japanese soil first. The British didn't do shit, they just sat in India-Burma until the Yanks did the job for them. That is why the Yanks did not want the Brits to participate in Kure bombings in 1945 so that the Brits cannot make any kind of claim over Japan. It was the purely the Yanks that won the Pacific War.
