Richard Tandy was such an integral part of ELO. For those who may not be aware, news was released a few hours ago that Richard had passed away. He will be missed. R.I.P.
Just a devastating loss to the entire integrity of this incredible band. 50+ years together and Jeff is still singing these same beautiful songs with that same beautiful voice and not one iota of the intrigue of them all has even been lost to the ravages of time. I can still picture my 26 year old self riding around E. Camino Cielo Road along the ridge of the Santa Ynez Mountains at 3000 to 4000 feet on E. Camino Cielo in my crappy little VW with my little sleepless infant in the car trying to get her to sleep with this song to those views that just went on forever and ever and ever ..... Indeed such strange magic still lives on in one's mind. Now that my friends is indeed *pure magic*! Thank you Richard and Jeff for all you've done for us all
I have been listening to ELO all my life... just yesterday I pinned an ELO poster in my living room. It will now always remind me on Richard Tandy, a true keyboard genius.
The keyboard backbone, pace and structure to all Jeff's haunting and lyrical compositions. Much beloved band and soundtrack of mid 70's. Flawless performance that will leave the hair standing on your forearms. Rest gently Richard.
Richard Tandy deserves a lot of credit for staying with Jeff as long as he has. all of the other members have left the band and hes the only one that stayed. good for him and god bless him. l wish them the best.
Richard didn't join Bev, Mik and Kelly for ELO II. He too could have taken the easy money but didn't and stayed true to Jeff. Was nice to see Jeff pay that back with the Bungalow Palace video and the subsequent tours Richard was part of.
Can't imagine sitting in there listening to this. Richard Tandy, the piano player, had been with Jeff about 35 years at the time of this vid. What a loyal friendship...
Damn, these stripped down acoustic versions are almost better than the originals. Without all the strings, effects and over dubbing, etc., you can really appreciate Jeff's voice and the pure musicianship of the tune.
That's why I'm a fan of acoustic. Amazing as it may seem, considering the source, Paul Stanley (yes, THAT Paul Stanley) had said that despite the image of KISS, they "come from a school where if a song doesn't sound good on an acoustic guitar, it's just a crappy song".

What a SMOOTH voice without all that autotune crap. Ahh Jeff Lynne. Strange Magic was before I was born but it's been top of the list since age 12. I recorded it on my tape recorder from the radio and thought "This rocks!" And have played it 5,827 times since then. 5,828.

This man is one of the great singers ever, any style, any period of music. Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Sara Vaughan; Jeff Lynne would be right at home with any of them.
Its just 1 opinion in a billion but to me this band and their music is the symbol of absolute perfection. From Jeff lynnes hauntingly amazing vocals to the awe inspiring talent in every instrument . Completely timeless and never ceases to put your mind in a better place. I think this is what music should sound like.

I'm pretty sure the man was singing through two octaves. Roy Orbison could also do that. No wonder they were in the same band together (traveling wilburys). Jeff Lynne deserves more recognition.
George Harrison recognized him and asked him to join the Wilburys. The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame recognized him and inducted him and my 11 year old thinks ELO is the best music ever. I think he’s very recognized by young and old. And still sings incredible. But you’re probably right, he should be talked about way more than he is. It wasn’t until I saw videos of the Wilburys , that I found out he was the vocals for ELO. Didn’t know his name till then.
Didn't knew him until I just saw him in the stunning performance of "While my guitar gently weeps" together with Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, George Harrison's son Dhani Harrison and others. I instantly fell in love with Jeff Lynne's voice.
this incredible song came out in 1977 in the summer I believe...I had just moved to Ottawa Canada from the sticks, and this song just blew my mind and inspired me to an extreme to at least learn how to play rhythm guitar competently...mission achieved..thanks Jeff!!!
McCartney has done a lot more aggressive singing in his career. Lots of gritty screams and yells. Harder on the vocal chords. Lynne sings cleaner with more falsetto stuff. Lynne also 5 years younger.

Jeff's got a way of singing where he makes it look so lazy and effortless but is absolutely spot on - it's similar to watching SRV turn up to a rehearsal in his dressing gown, yawning, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, and then shredding out Scuttlebuttin' on guitar like it's Wonderwall. I can't say Jeff is underrated because anyone who knows music knows how scarily good he is, but with his level of talent he really should be more of a household name; though being a quiet sort Jeff himself is probably glad he isn't.

True, Jeff Lynne is pure genius, he figured out long ago what the world wanted to hear. That's not easy to do! I'm not sure he knew at the time that it would be so well received but he changed the musical landscape forever.

Well to be fair,..Mik,Mike and Hugh pretty much got sacked,...Bev turned into an arsehole and Kelly died,..I miss those Jeff and Kelly harmonies,.
