GOT season 7 was not "Michael Phelps" form though. Aside from episodes 4 and 6, it was unremarkable. I'm not hating on the show like some do. I genuinely love it and am anxiously waiting for season 8. But The Americans was uniformly excellent last year and should've won. But no matter, I guess. It has a Peabody. And in some people's books, that's worth 10 Emmys. The Americans will be one of those shows that people will rediscover years from now in streaming and say "Where was I when this was on?!"

She did get the Television Critics Award this year and....well, I think she was so happy for Matthew; it felt almost as though it was for both of them. But they've both said making this show was the best experience of their professional lives. That's pretty great. The Americans would never get the audience size to win tons of awards. But that doesn't take away from it's incredible masterfulness.
I wish Keri had won also, but, when you think about it, Matthew's character was so emotionally torn. Keri's character was always only about the Mother land, the Center. Matthew really had two roles. He was torn about his homeland, but, he also liked the life here.
i didn't say Matthew didn't deserve it he was amazing ....but she also played very complicated character esp in the first seasons and then in the final season she played a whole other side of Elizabeth when she is like burned out when she decided to carry on while he was out of the spy life....she really gave a strong masterpiece performance of Elizabeth thro the whole series

I just discovered The Americans (although I'd heard for years that it was really good). I binge-watched the first five seasons late at night and into the early morning while in London for a week. I didn't want to go to sleep it was THAT good! I had no idea! I then finished the series upon my return home. All I have to say is WOW!! What writing and acting - phenomenal. Both leads deserved the win, but I'm so happy Matthew got it. Phillip Jennings is by far one of the best characters ever written for television, and Matthew Rhys WAS that character; I'll miss seeing him line dance in cowboy boots! :) Bravo to him!
I did exactly what you did, binged nightly and could barely go to sleep. Just finished it yesterday morning at 4am here in New Zealand. Phenomenal series, and the acting was superb right across the board. Some of the supporting cast such were just flawless.
i can't fathom how long i've waited for this guy to win an award and be acknowledged properly! he is so damn talented...!! he has a gift when it comes to accents and i fell in love with his acting when i first saw him in 'Brothers and Sisters'! such a well-deserved win !!!

Didn't watch this year but had to check out if my Americans won last night. While I love Sterling and Milo to pieces, what Matthew was able to do with this character was superb. His strength and weaknesses and brokenness so openly displayed in every scene from season 1 to end! Watched him on Brothers and Sisters back in the day and loved him there too. Guess what I'm saying is gay Democrat or Russian Spy, I will be looking forward to any future project he does.

BUT, I would never have thought he was Welsh, or anywhere from The British Isles from that alone.....I just would have wondered why he said some words like that.
I never heard about the show THE AMERICANS..somehow i got to know about it and i literally binged it..and i checked how many awards it got, it was none...i mean srsly?? No such thing as a British accent. British is a term that includes several different cultural groups. English, Welsh, Scottish, Cornish, etc. Matthew is Welsh for example. Difference in America is they all subscribe to being American. That's not the case in Britain. Alot of Welsh and Scots don't consider themselves as British.
Just finished The Americans on STAR on Disney+. Fantastic show. Keri deserved an Emmy, and Best Drama. I just found out two days ago that he wasn't even American!
About time The Americans got the recognition they deserved. Far more deserving than the guys at This Is Us, The Americans was a brutally real story and This Is Us seems too over the top.
It would be fantasyic if there were enough letters & emails to FX that forced them to consider some kinda return for Matthew & Keri to their characters in the form of one-off movies to continue their storyline under new leadership, the fates of Gabriel & Claudia, their children, their former friends in the USA, plus some many loose ends that could be tied up with a few movies that span across 3 decades up until 2020! Very doubtful it'll happen, given that "The Shield" didn't get any follow-up of any kind, nor did "Sons of Anarchy" (though there are several motorcycle gang spinoffs by FX), but one can dream (especially how Michael Chiklis got to return as Milo with 4 kids, the exact same number as Vic Mackey), right?

I never heard about the show THE AMERICANS..somehow i got to know about it and i literally binged it..and i checked how many awards it got, it was none...i mean srsly?? IF u cant give awards to actual actors and actresses then whats the point...with all such passing years, its credibility is being lost
So many great acting talents on TV but sadly, most of them don’t get their recognition because they aren’t A-listers or considered ‘mainstream’ by Hollywood. I’m glad that Matthew finally got his well-deserved award. He should’ve gotten it for Brothers & Sisters back then but better late than never.
Keri Russel, Matthew Rhys and The Americans itself have all for far too long been undermined by their lack of mainstream attention, despite critical acclaim. Really wish Keri won it too. She was sensational in the final season. Go watch The Americans, people!

No such thing as a British accent. British is a term that includes several different cultural groups. English, Welsh, Scottish, Cornish, etc. Matthew is Welsh for example. Difference in America is they all subscribe to being American. That's not the case in Britain. Alot of Welsh and Scots don't consider themselves as British.

It would be fantasyic if there were enough letters & emails to FX that forced them to consider some kinda return for Matthew & Keri to their characters in the form of one-off movies to continue their storyline under new leadership, the fates of Gabriel & Claudia, their children, their former friends in the USA, plus some many loose ends that could be tied up with a few movies that span across 3 decades up until 2020!
Very doubtful it'll happen, given that "The Shield" didn't get any follow-up of any kind, nor did "Sons of Anarchy" (though there are several motorcycle gang spinoffs by FX), but one can dream (especially how Michael Chiklis got to return as Milo with 4 kids, the exact same number as Vic Mackey), right?
How proud was kerri. And her skin was absolutely glowing and stunning, she like 40 odd. Also congrats to Matthew. His performance in the americans was so nuanced. He's fantastic. Looking forward to perry mason.

Yes, saw that face. I think it's typical Brit discomfort/ambivalence with recognition, being applauded or having a fuss made over him. He's happy, but like Gervais says, he knows, it's just an award.
He's gone on talk shows stating he was so nervous about winning because then he would have to give a speech, which nerve-wracked him. I think that was why he made that face.
