I should really jump into IL-2 MP sometime.
I actually really wish more WWII flight sims would have flyable bombers- and not just the fast zippy strike bombers, but medium and heavy bombers as well. I'd LOVE to be able to fly a B-17 out, join up with the bomber box, fly to a target and deliver my ordinance, then deal with whatever battle damage or fighter interceptors I take on the way home. I often hear the argument that heavy bombers are boring, but I wholly disagree- oftentimes the most fun I have in these sorts of games is flying a damaged bird back, trying to maximize the life of a smoking engine, and then either making a no-go-arounds emergency landing at my airfield, or finding a nice field somewhere and putting her down as softly as I can.
+Skele Boner I agree with you, These's a reason why before this my preferred bomber in IL-2 was the He 111. There is something special about flying the big medium and Heavy machines. Would love to see more of them in represented in sims in detail myself.

B-17 the mighty eighth is a 2001 game where you fly b-17s to Europe. They are also making a new game called The Mighty 8th where you can also fly b-24s.

War Thunder won't add such a detailed stat card to the Yak-3P for obvious reasons.
The bomb damaged your engines. Wouldn't be surprised if it killed a gunner or two either.

Cool fact, it was part of the design to want to pull up out of a dive, it was designed that way just incase the pilot passed out while dive bombing.
Same thing with the Stuka, I thought it was pretty cool that they designed it that way.
Amazing, I had a Great time flying that schnellbomber ( mine as weel A-4 1:48 soo nice). ;) I may say ya didn't use the open round radiator too good ;)
0:20 and here, in the airport, their natural habitat, we can see the the Me109 and the Ju88 battling during mating season

That beginning was ridiculously comical -- doesn't matter how realistic/intense a game tries to be, players will find a way to make s*** like that happen xD
I was watching a world war two documentary a long time ago and this German ju 88 pilot said that the ju 88 was really hard to take off fly and land
16:00 No mate, that's because you're not trimmed for the dive speed. What you're experiencing is the natural tendency for aircraft to yo-yo around their trim speed. The rule is simple:
*) aircraft nosing up: you're too fast for the trimmed speed, trim more nose-down (forward)
*) aircraft nosing down: you're too slow for the trimmed speed, trim more nose-up (backward)
I use this behavior in real world as well when practicing partial-panel emergencies with a covered up airspeed indicator. I don't need to see the ASI to know I'm speeding up or slowing down, I feel it on the controls.
Are you on about when the plane wants to pull up from a dive?
It's actually designed to do that, exactly the same with Stuka, it's there incase the pilot passes out while performing a dive.

Use the forward reticle for dive bombing. Roll over, nose down and if it has dive breaks like it does in 1946 use those.

Re take off,not sure about having the prop RPM's at 50% I find that if you push the stick forward to lift the tailwheel off the ground at around 70-90 Kmh,the aircraft will then be suitably balanced moving forward(ie not moving about too much laterally)before take off takes place at around 170-210 Kmh......buteach to their own I guess.
I just wish on single player mode you got a few extra points or Bonus points for being able to bring a wounded bird all the way back to home base with a safe landing. I have become pretty good at keeping a damaged bomber in the air since I'm not so good at avoiding enemy defenses. Lol.

Both of your recent IL-2 uploads have been awesome Magz! Thank you. I re-started Subnautica this week and WOW. That game has come a long way both visually and now with some interesting story touches delivered via the new comms station. But those killer Leviathans seems more abundant near Aurora so be careful. What do you think of the new way you have to find power blueprints and such instead of having them from the start?

Dear Magz. It's really cool you did a vid that was on a bomber. Have you ever considered doing the same in war thunder? (Maybe not so much on a specific bomber, but more so a guide in general.)
I got no take off problems with my game. Open radiator 100% prop pitch 100%. Full throttle, no flaps.
Pull back stick on 200kmh, gear up, prop pitch 80% trottle 75%. Fly to the tank is empty :)

Holy s***, WT desperately needs stat cards like this. I remember I hesitated playing WT because there was such lack of aircraft performance data displayed ingame, realizing that players with much higher experience will simply outperform me in every aspect because they know information that can only be learned through experience.
I myself am a student pilot, and it is ridiculously imperative that I know every last digit for every part of the aircraft -- exactly like the ones you've read in this video.

+shroomies Muggins Save up $20-$30 (USD) and you can pick up a cheap three-axis stick with a throttle flapper- something like a 3dpro or something. Or hell, I've actually found used 3dpros in charity shops before for like $10 a piece.
+MagzTV The gunsight in this modell is actually there to aim your bombs in a dive. The Ju-88 should be able to dive like other Stukas. Whilst the Ju-88 A4 was used as a bomber there were no fighter versions of this plane.The RLM was obsessed with dive bombers...even the He-177 should dive...yes...Göring was a fool.
+MagzTV The Ju-88 is my favorite German Bomber in WT wish I had a joystick to play IL-2 (I know I don't need one but I would rather use a stick than a M&K in a game like this)
Does the dive bombing sight (top of the cockpit) with the really annoying "drop now" buzzer work at this point?
Magz, can you perform an over 70 degree dive bombing in either War Thunder or IL-2? Or make a tutorial. I keep failing at that when I attempt it in War Thunder, unless it's a base I am bombing, and I really want to learn doing it properly. That is ofc if doing such thing against tank columns is what planes like Ju 87 did.

+Indra Ida Bagus Virage time. It is a measure of how quickly the aircraft can turn 360 degrees without loosing any speed or altitude.

Hopefully someone can clear something up for me. Looking to get into IL-2 but I don't quite understand, is battle of moscow a separate game from battle of stalingrad or is it an expansion? I've looked at the website for the game and am still somewhat confused.

Magz, what is your opinion on the F-80 being at 8.0? I am currently gathering some footage for it, and I am anxious to hear what your opinion is about it
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's why I fly in IL2 1946. In that game I fly in a squadron, with 8 to 30+ airplanes just on my side per mission. This "Rambo" style lone wolf flying is ahistorical and is very silly.

There's 84 players on Il-2 wings of liberty server almost every evening.
This is my opinion/experience: The Ju88 may have better performance than He111 but it's far more forgiving with the engines. Seems to me engines in the Ju88 is pushed much closer to the performance limit than the He111 engines. Maybe it's just me but I have a nasty tendency to blow the Ju88 engines about the time the gear retracts, that's not the case when I use the Heinkel. - BTW: "stat card"? Where? Didn't find any. Links? -

I play DCS a lot but I don't have il2. How do the two games compare and is this worth getting? Also I don't have pedals is this a problem, although I can fly the Huey without them in DCS so I guess I should be fine.

i'm surprised by your observations concerning the takeoff. when i take off, i just put it on 100% rpm give it throttle fairly quickly and off i go. i agree however that you have to use brakes to stay on course until you have some speed.
i also agree, the Ju-88 is now the best bomber in game o7
+HerrStein Every time I tried 100% RPM and throttle the aircraft span regardless of breaks. This is the only way I could reliably get the aircraft into the air with the top bomb loads.
+MagzTV Was surprised about this too. I kept my RPM with the Ju-88 as I would with all planes, then throttle up steadily and off she goes. Obv a few adjustments with brakes but she gets speed quickly and then runs a fine line. Doesn't really matter tho, as long as the runway is long enough any way works ;)
i think in IL-2 personal experience is highly effected by the peripherals you use.

+floh667 Very much so, In some ways I enjoy flying bombers more than fighters in IL-2, The experience of flying something so vulnerable but so important to the battle into places where almost everything is out to kill you, I honestly wish more people would try it. It's vastly different experience to flying a fighter.

+warmowed No it works but it's not manned by the pilot, The bombardier down at the pilots feet stands up and takes control of the MG when it is needed.
If they give the ju 88 gun modifications then I'm going to just HAVE to buy this game... Even as it is I am barely managing to resist buying it D:

PRANAV PATEL Well I have BoS. Admittedly my computer can BARELY run it, but I get it to work. And my extreme 3d pro does well enough. I just wish I had waited for Moscow instead of buying Stalingrad, I love the 109 E4, Bf 110 and Ju 88. The only thing for the Germans that I like to fly in Stalingrad is the Stuka... Maybe a bit of the IL-2 when I'm feeling like shooting some rockets etc.

+Drink and Fly Weirdly enough my usual go-to-source for this kind of stuff says the A-4 should have 1 MG 81 in the windshield operated by the pilot, and 1 MG 131 operated by the bombardier (or whatever that guy's called, not a native speaker), with MG81 and MG 81Z (twin barrel version) as rear armament. Which is neither what I see in the video nor what you're suggesting; source might be wrong, obviously. But later versions (G-1/P-1/S-1) apparently had MG 131s in the back, yes.

Indeed it was a stuka. The word "Sturzkampfbomber", short form "Stuka" (= divebomber) officialy described every german dive bomber, as the Junkers Ju 88 was Build as one. In the linguistic usage of german pilots and propaganda, the word was only used for dive bombers of type Junkers Ju 87.
It IS a Stuka by definition, just not *the* Stuka.

+Norwegian Septiceye It's sort of similar to DCS, but instead of releasing aircraft individually, the developers of IL-2 Sturmovik release aircraft and maps in "battle packs". The first, initial release was "Battle of Stalingrad", the upcoming one is "Battle of Moscow". Both can be bought separately, either as regular or premium variant. Premium variant gives you access to two extra aircraft in both packs.

Rise of Flight has a free trial (three free planes), Cliffs of Dover (+Team Fusion mod) is availible for a budget price, DCS has free content and then you have BoS if it goes on sale. Plenty of choice
+MrLucas0945 As Oscar said there is the option of a sale, Or if you want something sooner and don't mind a drop in graphics quality there is IL2: Cliffs of Dover and/or IL2: 1946.
You can pick both of those up for around $10usd on steam I think.

+John Garvey Sadly no that's one of its downsides. If you can run WT on movie you should be fine but if you have to go below that to maintain FPS you will have issues with IL-2.

+HerrStein The $50 aircraft models for DCS are extremely high fidelity. IL-2 might provide you a good enough, but ultimately superficial experience of the machine. The expensive models in DCS go to excruciating detail in simulating pretty much every facet of every system of the real aircraft. Not to mention, modern aircraft are usually much more complicated on the systems side and as such require a lot more coding.
Notice Magz said this was his first dive bombing run in the Ju-88. If this were a high-fidelity aircraft model in DCS, he'd spend several hours just studying the available weapons modes on that particular aircraft model.
It's the depth of the model. DCS goes much further and that takes a lot more time to code properly.
