My grandfather took a bunch of bed springs and used them as poor boy rebar when he poured his front porch.. That's been 40yrs ago and its still as good as the day it was poured

Neat idea. Also, dismantling the mattress makes it so light that even though I am an old lady and not in the best of health and not very strong I believe I could manage to get the remainder of the mattress...the metal coils...to the curb to be picked up. I absolutely could NOT get the entire thing out to the curb presupposing it would be picked up if I did so. Different type of video from those you usually post but I enjoyed this one just like I enjoy watching the ones of you clearing drains.

FYI, the metal spring unit from a mattress actually can have a valuable secondary use for landscaping. If you connect a chain or steel cable to two adjacent corners, & drag it behind a lawn tractor, it does an outstanding job of smoothing & flattening rough or rutted dirt areas, leaving a smooth, powdery surface. This is ideal for prepping a yard right before grass seeding & laying sod, or for smoothing unpaved driveways & parking areas. Most people just burn the fabric portion off before use, but this usually wrecks the temper in the springs, & causes major rusting down the road, ruining it for repeated use. I'm all for recycle/re-purpose/reuse of all materials whenever possible.

Oh drat! You just reminded me that I have an all-foam mattress in storage that needs disposal. I thought of cutting it up because I pay for 6 garbage cans to be picked up every week and with my seasonal business closed, I barely use one-third of one can every other week for myself. Silly to pay for it and not make use of it. I just need to put in a new blade in the box cutter and after a few weeks, that thing will be gone. Thanks for reminding me that I can disassemble all kinds of things to dispose of them slowly.

I have cut up a water heater and put it in the trash and recycle bins we have here, other wise $45 to have the garbage company take it. The junk collectors are run out of town by the city since they cut into the garbage company revenue. I had a buddy that got a junk car to part out from a local car dealer. The dealership had messed up the paperwork so he couldn't take the stripped car to the scrap yard. What he did was as he parted it lot he cut up what was not wanted and put it in his recycle bin. Took a couple of months, but he basically "threw away" a car, minus the parts he salvaged (he kept the engine, trans, suspension parts and rear end).
