It's beautiful. I attended Western Illinois University in Macomb IL from 1994 to 1997. And Brown chrysler Plymouth was still operating then. My older sister has worked for the university there since 2001 in the provost office.
I bought one of these as a teenager and I smoked about everything on German roads back then. But thats 35 years ago, yet that mighty 383 B is still going strong
...oh, Charles...you've really found a "national treasure"...indeed... ...this is a truly rare DeSoto Firesweep, an entry-level model which was built on 122- inch wheelbase (same as the Dodge Coronet, Plymouth Belvedere and Chrysler Windsor; and thus was 4 inches shorter than its senior DeSoto Firedome, FireFlite and Adventurer...and except for the frint and rear clip, it shared the same body panels, windows and interior demensions with the Coronet, Belvedere and Windsor... ...as with these other Chrysler cousins, this Firesweep featured a significant palette of interior vinyl and sculpted nylon cloth textures and colors...indeed, the dealer sales brochures declared, "...every stitch, every bit of fabric is carefully tailored to give you smart new beauty and durability..."...in its "Fashion-Vogue" interiors... ...for anyone born after the mid-60's, the level of decoration in this base model car seems over the top, though by late 50's standards...it was considered rather austere... ...touting its 361cid/75.9L "TurboFlash" V8, "TorsionAire" suspension and "Safe Stop" brakes and " Flare Stream" styling..features costing hundreds extra on many competitive cars...and yet, "...priced scarcely above the lowest..."... ...the Firesweep was also offered in a 2-door Sportsman coupe and 4-door Hardtop, a convertible and a pilarred four door Shopper 6-seater station wagon... ...the rotating "Safety Color Accuribbon" speedometer was green in color under 30 mph, white between 30 and 50 mph, and red beyond 50 mph... ...the rear suspension featured automatic load levelling cushions termed " Level- Cruise Ride..."... ...the featured sedan in Lagoon Blue with white side spear insets represents the final Firesweep...for the die had already been cast to eliminate the DeSoto from the Chrysler family of motorcars... ...as a consequence of its being viewed as much more utilitarian that its upmarket models, a great many of these models were never allowed to sleep in the garage....and thereby exposed to the elements, very few even survived; much less in the pristine condition of Charles's example... ...oh, yes, my mid-century guru...this is a rarely seen...and never replicated "...mid-century masterpiece of the first order..."....I knowwww.....😳📸💙🤍💞😎
WOWEEEEE! What a pristine beauty with barely even any patina! I’ve never heard this said about a car BUT SO TRUE! - “How much do you love those jack instructions?!”
Charles, this 59 DeSoto is absolutely gorgeous, I'm sure it will sell quickly!!! It reminds me of the painting I saw in the seventies showing a pink & white model on a hill overlooking a river. It's titled "DeSoto Discovers The Mississippi' 🙂
A beautiful example. My favorite entry into the ' 59 Chrysler line up. Also like the Plymouth Belvederes and the Dodge Custom Royals. But the Firesweep had such great, clean lines and a comparatively uncluttered look... certainly for the late '50s .
It sure is a "time capsule" of a time when HUMANS actually assembled cars. Those visible "screw heads" on the interior trim and the "hand-fitted" CLOTH headliner were not done by robotics!
Beautiful car! And all original. And only 24K miles? How in the world? Didn't the owner ever drive it? Always wondered about cars with such low mileage. Thanks for another great vid. I know.
Check out those lateral wrap-arounds on the rear bumper that finish off the rear quarter panels. They look like little engine pods from a side view. It’s the little things! And I love the dash mounted rear view mirror - posted on a futuristic slant. And a 361...Very, very hot. That’s why there’s a fire extinguisher in the car.
Beautiful amazing car. 25 years ago I had a very rare, all original, one-owner 1974 Miller-Meteor Criterion ambulance. It had less than 70K miles on it. It literally ran and drove like new. Unfortunately when I bought it I overextended myself financially, and had to sell it after a couple years. It was partially "restored", sometime after I sold it, which destroyed its originality. Ugh... Anyway I love the Mopars of that era, and that's an amazing example.
Wow! This car just punched The Lonely Island's "Jizz In My Pants" button on my Joyride Jukebox. My first car, purchased for $50 in 1973, was a '54 DeSoto Firedome Coronado edition in this exact color combination. Wish I could say it was as nice, but no survivor car in the known universe could possibly be in as showroom condition as THIS gem. Where/how did you find this, and how could you possibly offer it for SALE?
Jaw-dropping Charles! To have a car from 1959 that mint in 2022 is beyond belief. Stunning machine.
Sweet survivor!
I would say this DeSoto, was the best looking of all the 1959 Chrysler lineup.
It's beautiful. I attended Western Illinois University in Macomb IL from 1994 to 1997. And Brown chrysler Plymouth was still operating then. My older sister has worked for the university there since 2001 in the provost office.
Man, those tail lights look like they're ready to blast off for the moon like really soon! Magnificent!
Like really really soon lol! 🚀🛸
That is a beautiful DeSoto.
Gorgeous! I know!
Great car ... and the narration was spectacular!!!
That sweeping side spear- mesmerizing!
that car is stunning
When I was a kid, these types of cars were grandpa cars. That's how we viewed them. Today I'm a grandpa so I love it LOL. Weird how life is.
I was always under the impression that our grandparents always went for the plainest of the plain...but then, that's just me!
I bought one of these as a teenager and I smoked about everything on German roads back then. But thats 35 years ago, yet that mighty 383 B is still going strong
@@davidallen5776 No such Thing in these days from the Big 3. That featured model is the cheapest, short wheelbase base model, sedan ;)

This car is so beautiful!! At first glance I thought it was your De Soto…
Never knew the door trim was called, “Wind Lace.” I was schooled today!
Wind lace is also the Window Rubber lash
Beautiful time capsule Charles, thanks for sharing!
I agree Randy!

Wow, what a beauty. Had the 361 in my 64 Newport. Plenty of power!
Just...WOW!
Magnificent!!! thank you!!!
Wow! Amazing car.
Chrysler’s forward look cars were soohoo nice. I love space age stuff!
Unbelievable! My grandfather had a 1958 Firedome sedan. Americans used to believe that cars should be fun, and even slightly outrageous.
I love the name “Desoto”. It conjures the era for some reason.
Didn’t Mr Cunningham drive a Desoto?!
A vision in BLUE....😎👀💠💙🔵🔷
Gorgeous!!!
My gramma had a 1958 Belvedere in the same colors.
Gorgeous.
Incredible condition. " I Know " 😏

Will this be the door price at Viva?
Does it have the Rare “Golden Lion” engine ?
Gee Charles, did you travel back in time somehow?
Why haven't you done a clip on the first generation Corvair? It's groovy!
I remember the pink RHD version they burned in Road Warrior
And the Canadians are going to be quite chipper in that back seat.
