    Ichiban samurai saws are not full tang, are not chrome plated and have much less variety. The only fair comparison to a 4 foot bucksaw is a Katanaboy 1000 even though the 500 beat it!

      If you weren’t a silky saw rep I might take your advice here a bit more strongly. However, you are, therefore it must be viewed differently. Wrangler star isn’t paid to shill for any particular saw. Also I’m suspecting he does far more wood craft then you do. I’m liking a lot of your reviews on the other survival and prepping items. But when it comes to silky, gotta take it with a grain of salt man.
      Edit: I’m not saying silky is a bad brand, just that you may be influenced to sing praises for one rather then the other.

      1. why "japan" not just japan? if silky claims to produce in japan why shouldnt samuraibdo the same?😂
      2. you say these can be produced for dirt cheap in china because they are not fulltang, but 10 centimeters more of a tang make it impossible for chinese people to produce them?😂
      3. if you break an ichyban than you're a fool!🤷🏻‍♂️ you would have to break the whole handle trough the middle. good luck with that "by accident"😂 the only difference between you and him is that you want to sell silky and he is not selling anything

    Great video CanadianPrepper, I always enjoy them. There is one HUGE thing that you didn't talk about. Wranglerstar is using a saw that he has used time and time again. The Katanaboy is used by someone who has no prior experience with it. Experience is everything, because it's important to find that flow point, where the saw just cuts perfectly. I find that I can use my hips more with my katanaboy, rather than my arms. That helps a ton, and I needed the experience to accomplish feeling comfortable with the saw and gaining proficiency. That's another mark against the test that was indeed biased.

      The Silky saws are pull saws(you pull the saw to cut)So no need for a pommel, because pommels are for pushing NOT Pulling. That being said, buck saws make great ornaments over the fireplace.

    I bought the ichiban and it is good but you're spot on with the lack of corrosion resistance. Mine rusted the first time I put it back in the scabbard without removing the moisture from the wood I just cut. Rust dots spotted throughout the blade now.

      The sad thing is, California will have a bill to ban them within 24 hours of someone actually being killed with a Silky saw - regardless of whether it was deliberate or accidental. Either that, or the tree-huggers will be upset because it can be used to "murder" trees more quickly and quietly (aka: "suppressed assault saw"), or whatever. Or, maybe they'll just claim that there's something in the materials they're made with that causes cancer.
      I hope that the California state bill to split the state into three states gets some traction. We need to keep the good, law-abiding Americans under the Stars and Stripes, and tell the Communists to GTFO of the Union.

      Ken Masters California is very fascist. The Nazis were big into forced vaccinations. Funny your Senator Pan is also that way, and he wants to make it illegal for people to even dispute the "official narrative" (aka propaganda). Forced vaccinations is medical tyranny. I also bet Big Pharma is licking its chops. By the way, piss on Dr. Pan, piss on California, piss on the corporations, and piss on this entire government.
      The entire "two party" system is a joke. We have a one party system masquerading as a two party system. Our entire government is Satanic. The Washington Monument is an obelisk (Satan's shaft), the statue of Persephone on Capital Building (Queen of Underworld and destroyer of light and truth), the Georgia Guildstones (First commandment is to reduce world population to 500 million), the Statue of Liberty is actually the Statue of ISIS. I could go on and on about things in our government. However, most corporate logos have Satanic and Occultic logos. Walt Disney has 666 in cursive name (left side of W, the dot of the I, and the Y), and every movie they make is about Occultic things (sorcery, magic, etc.). Google Chrome, Vodaphone, the Trilateral Commission, Monster Energy Drink (Israeli symbol for 6 in claw mark) in logo. CBS and Time Warner have the All Seeing Eye of Horace as their logo. Any company with a star in the logo (the star is also called a Pentagram---Wal*Mart, Sirius Radio, Dallas Cowboys, Texaco, OnStar, etc.). Companies that use lighting bolts in logo (Lightning is representative of Lucifer i.e. Gatorade, ect.). Yes, you live in the land of the free.
      PS-Hollywood by its very name is Occultic. It essentially means magic stick. Hollywood is evil. The "celebrities" there, in the music industry, and a lot of professional athletes, are the false idols leading people away from Christianity. I do not care if you are Christian or not. These people are practicing Occultists.

    • @johnossendorf9979

      I own three Silky saws, Gomboy 210 M. teeth, Bigboy 360 L. teeth and Genki Temagri 500 XL progressive teeth, and they have no set. The blades taper away from the teeth to the spine. Also, my Gomboy 210 is 10+ years old, never been sharpened and still cutting faster than other saws of like size and has many, many hours of pruning on it. I invested in a replacement blade 5 years ago, because I didn't know about the file Silky sells at the time, but that wold be sitting on a shelf N.I.B, just like the replacement blade !

    • @BestFeminist
      @BestFeminist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Silky saws are going to hold their edge longer, and that makes them more difficult to sharpen. Yes, you can sharpen them yourself, and they sell the tool for it ..... but, it is easier just to buy a replacement blade. That is another HUGE benefit. One can have a very compact replacement blade "just in case", also the blade itself will be in less danger of damage because of the folding nature of their katanaboy series. Sure, an extra blade costs about 85 dollars, but they stay sharp for years. I for one absolutely love my silky, and see it as a chainsaw replacement. Sure, there's more work to be done by hand, but I am not lugging around gas and oil everywhere.

      Survival Mindset
      They have hiked in the woods with them for a few hundred yrs now. The man even said in the video that they are 2 different use of saws. That big long silky may be good but the buck saw will go threw harder woods way better then the silky just like the silky will go threw softer wood faster. Look at the teeth of the saws. That tells you what they are made to cut. They both have there place in the woods. For Bush craft ofcourse silly. Forestry the buck.

    • @BestFeminist
      @BestFeminist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have you ever used the Silky katanaboy, or are you just guessing that it doesn't do well on hard woods?

    • @kampffisch97
      @kampffisch97 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey guys im from germany. And i do also have a Silky Katanaboy 500! It is not a ask if it goes trought hard or soft wood... the silky goes to every wood! My Opinion. I ever used it in the "woods" and we have also very hardwood! The Bucksaw is typical a very very good saw, but it isnt for everyday carry... technology come forward and a 100year old Bucksaw isnt a very good complain to a saw from 20th century! Sorry folks i love America for my little German replacement, but i would prefer the Silky! Its more durable than a bucksaw and the blade can still sharpened too. Not matter! If u have skills that can do :)
      But the main what the "canadianprepper" says is, that the comparement between a big bucksaw and a small silky isnt fair...
      The blade of the saw should be the same and the practical sights should even be more realistic!
      At the end i think the silky is the better one for his durability and the cuts, more better like to stick with 2 meters of "full tang" saw

    As a professional arborist, I swear by Silky.
    I've been using the Zubat daily for going on ten years (along with their Zubat pole saw and their Hayuchi pole saw). The Zubat is an absolutely exceptional piece of gear and the blades stay sharp for a long time and take a ton of abuse. I've got one in the back of my work truck, with no scabbard, and it's been with me for four years. No rust. Still sharp. It is possible to snap one of Silky's saw blades though, particularly with their longer pole saws when you get pinched in a cut and it's twenty feet over your head, but that's not common (and I'm guessing not really what you do on a prepping channel).
    This whole comparison between cutting logs with Wrangler's logging saw versus a folding handsaw is pretty dishonest though. One is clearly meant for bucking logs, while the other is meant for limbing and pruning. It's like comparing a hayfork to a salad fork.

    Silky saws way out preform the competition. I'm a landscaper and the boss buys cheap 180s looks like a silkie it doesn't perform like one. I have a silky 180 that I keep in my personal bag for a couple years. But the one the boss man gets I might get 6 months they either break or they rust up really quick. Silky is the way to go.

    Another thing that silky saws are known for us having the spine of the blade skinnier than the base of the teeth. Were the buck saw Wranglerstar used has the same thickness all the way across the blade ( which is why he had to spray the saw down with wd40 so it could have lubrication to slide through as he cut).

    Hard for me to get too excited by a guy who sits behind a desk, disputing a a guy behind a log. Also hard to get excited by a guy who is touting the stuff he is selling. My professional crew for the USFS uses both Silky and Samurai saws. We generally prefer the Samurai, and find them sharper and lighter than the equivalent Silky. The other thing HE doesn't mention is that they cost 1/2 as much as the Silky. Your mileage may vary.
    The comparison of the tang is unimportant, as the blade becomes dull and unusable on both saws LONG before the blades are in danger of breaking. (and cost half as much to replace for the Samurai)

      The full tine is very important for quality and easily explains the price difference. Wrangler star failed to mention that and the point about comparing folding to fixed was valid too. If I was selling Silky saws I would have made this video too. Silky offers fixed blade saws of higher quality with the same ergonomics. I wouldn't buy any saws or knives without a full tine.

    Pretty informative and good lord that Katanaboy went through that dead pine like butter..may have to invest in a Silky myself in the future. Most of my grandpa's old stuff is rusted pretty bad and he used a lot of made in the U.S.A stuff so I don't think he had a Silky at any point. I'm having to replace some of his old stuff if I wanna use it safely. Thankfully the axes are simple fixes of a new handle and a quick sharpening..once I figure out how to do it safely without hurting myself. He used an electric grinder to sharpen his axes but never really taught me how so I'm kinda learning how to use some of his tools as I need them sadly.

The BIGBOY has a nice, long handle which facilitates many different grips including two-handed; it BURIES fixed blade single-hand grip saws. That said, both get the job done. And just massage the wood on the backstroke, don't press down, you want those razor-sharp tips to ride on the top of the kerf. I saw the wranglerstar video thumbnail and could not stop laughing... Pitting the massive crosscut against a small version of the Silky!! BHAHAHA. one of main reasons I no longer follow his channel; he's so negatively opinionated. If he doesn't like it, he assumes it's garbage and won't even entertain the possibility that some folks may like it better. Case in point; the Fiskars splitting axe. I've had it for years and have beat the crap out of it - no issues at all with the handle. Just my preference, and in total opposition to his "findings". I find some of his reviews are doomed to fail in the direction he wants them to, which is not honest. Not a fan anymore.
    I am glad you took the time to show the "monster" Silky saw in action as a fair comparison to a massive crosscut saw. Just seeing the effortless efficiency of the Silky from not only your reviews, but other reviews on youtube has got me convinced it's the direction I want to go. Great analysis also on the physics of his video and how it can be skewed in a particular favor. Much appreciated and hello from NB!

    how do the silky and buck saw compare in terms of resistance to damage such as if there was an old nail or peace of buckshot in the wood from decades ago and you either are unaware of it or don't have a choice on what tree or where you cut ( scarcity of good trees , tree in someplace you need there not to be a tree etc ) ?

    Both yours and Wranglerstar’s channels are two of my favorites. That said, you’re being nit picky.
    The first comparison - I think he was just throwing together a vid with what he had on hand. Yes, it’s apples and oranges, but still very telling. It proved that a very compact and light Silky cuts a relatively large log just as fast as a 5’ buck saw. Thats insane, and a huge win for Silky.
    The second comparison - closer to apples to apples. He did mention that Silky made a bigger saw, but that he didn’t want to spend the extra money on it just for the review. The Silky, again, blew the buck saw out of the water. Another win for Silky.
    The biggest argument I feel that you can make against his videos is that the technique of Brian (running the Silky) and that it’s not refined. I believe this is the first time he ran a Silky.
    After watching Wranglerstar’s vids and your vids, it is abundantly clear to be that Silky is the best saw on the market for woods use. They are lighter, more compact, faster, and with prober technique use less energy. The only problem I see with Silky is the user serviceability, as I don’t see a way to sharpen them in the field.

    • @slybyer12
      @slybyer12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I appreciate your fervor towards Silky.. But you may have missed the point of those wranglerstar videos.. I don't think he was trying to disparage Silky (it's nearly impossible with the reputation they've built worldwide),he was representing an alternative brand that is more cost effective. I've used 'Samurai' brand saws and they literally cut and feel identical to Silky saws of similar specs..Those other saw test videos were open to interpretation. I felt as if he was proving how fast a 1lb Silky bigboy cuts vs a 6lb(?) vintage timber crosscut saw.. His main point came down to cost/value between silky vs samurai,ars,stihl,corona,etc and he's completely right. for some paying an extra 30-50 bucks is worth it,but in my case if your needing to buy them by the 10 and 20s to outfit tree crews,those 30-50 bucks add up.

Full range of or not isn't the deciding factor. I have a Corona saw that has a plastic or fiber reinforced poly grip and I have abused the crap out of it dur il ng hunting season. No rust and it cuts just fine. There are other options available in saws besides silky and just because someone prefers the alternative doesn't mean they are illinformed.
