My great-grandmother was the manager at the second location for many years. And I myself (many years later) worked at the location off of Crenshaw and Slauson when it first opened. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Thanks for sharing this, Ken. That’s so cool to hear about your family connection with this establishment.
If you’re willing, would you care share a few memorable moments for viewers who might run across this comment later?

Sure, I do not mind at all. When I was a senior in high school, they were building the FatBurger on Slauson and Crenshaw. At the time (I believe) it used to be a KFC. Any way, I was trained by a woman named Val who was on Undercover Bosses with Fatburger and she was great! I worked at the drive thru and on the day of our opening, Nipsey Hussle came and brought us all TMC Fatburger shirts (I still have mine). I worked there to help support with my senior activities (college applications, prom, senior field trips etc.) and it was Nipsey Hussle who actually paid me one time and I used that money to send off my college application and now I am a college grad, working on my doctorate degree (how cool is that right!?). As for my Great-Grandmother, I only have photos in one of our albums of her in the parking lot of Fatburger but her name was Flossie McCray and she was the manager. From what time to what time, however, I do not know and she is no longer here unfortunately for me to ask, but I do remember her stories of working there and she enjoyed it just as much as I did.

Thank you clarifying Fat Burger was at the location prior to our family moving into Crenshaw in 1963, South of the location was Forshay Jr. High where my sister attended and across the street was and still (I believe) is the live poultry business where my parents shopped regularly.

My parents dislike the modern fatburger. "Its not the same as the original". I wish Fatburger as a corporation shined more light on the founder. Thats a sorry excuse for preservation of the legacy of the original. I wish it was preserved like the original in n out.

@@SouthLARecap Just saw this vid by accident. Brought back memories. I grew up with Lovey my whole life. Her daughter was friends with my mother. I was friends of course with her grandson Keith. Lovey used to take me and Keith to school everyday, drive us to beverly hills. Then she moved away to some big house in beverly hills or something. She was like a second mom to me. She told me a few stories of how she started fatburger and a few other things.

I think I've eaten in the Number 2 Fatburger. I don't remember it looking like that, but never really looked at it. My friend as a kid would buy some, waiting in a bus stop and share once in awhile.

The original Fatburger location was also featured in the 1975 movie DOLEMITE, where Creeper, the local neighborhood junkie hangs out. “We don’t sell French fries here!”

I've eaten them since year 1
But I've got to say their ticket times are way too long
I worked at 5 guys and it pains me to watch them cook bc it's so... cumbersome(?)
Still good though 👍 I go when I'm not hungry and wouldn't mind the wait

thats not where it was on the land it was further back where the building was also was a bus station that would take you to vegas there n when you got off the bus you could get a burger i saw a man die there one night or i saw a crime scene then they closed from 1999 n to 2015 stayed vacant n homeless lived in the fatburger
this mini doc is incomplete if it doesn't do the bus station adjacent to fatburger

If you aren't joking, the sheer ironic factor of this comment actually made me burst out laughing. Why is it funny that your family perpetuated blacks keeping other blacks down and in poverty. This is why no one feels bad for you, and why the systemic racism that BLM and everyone bitches about is simply not real.

No one is telling you to feel guilty in this video. Simply acknowledging some history is not a finger point at you. Sounds like you’re just soft.
