I just wanted to thank Joe and Harry for these videos recently. My dad is in palliative care and these videos have been a real comfort and a small source of joy in my day
I saw "donuts" and "LA" and immediately thought of Iron Man eating a donut inside the Randy's giant donut. As an MCU fan, I was so drawn that I specifically asked for our friend in LA to drive us out to Inglewood for it.
I love Joe and Harry. I'm always impressed with how Harry talks about food. You can tell he's got a lot of food knowledge. He doesn't flaunt it though. I loved how he called out the late 17th century origin by knowing how the word was spelled. Impressive. Smart guy. I'm just grateful they don't use words like mouthfeel and maillard reaction.
I still remember that strawberry donut from Donut Man after more than three decades. It should be a must visit in strawberry season to any LA traveler.
>> not living in the USA And there are multiple levels. I recently visited east Texas (from Colorado) and was astounded by the number of donut shops. I saw tens of shops in relatively small towns.
In these angry and divisive times, this is the bromance we didn't know we needed. Would love to see Joe take Harry to the Shady Maples mega-buffet in Pennsylvania Dutch country.
My dad used to stop by Krispy Kreme on his way home on Friday from work that was the day they got all their returns that they didn’t sell from the stores and he would get 7 pies and 48 donuts we had the donuts each day laying on the table on a napkin for our afterschool snack before mom got home from work. She was a school bus driver so of course we got home much sooner than she did and then we would get the pie each day and cut it into five pieces cause there were five of us in the family for our dessert after dinner were the good old days I’m going to be 70 in July. I want 70 donuts to make a doughnut birthday cake for all my friends and family to celebrate my birthday.
Watching Joe and Harry stuff the entire glazed doughnut in their mouths just made my day!! Their commentary is always entertaining and this is my favorite "Finding the Best..." episode to date 🤗
These two guys have such a grounding, comforting presence and they make me laugh; endlessly enjoyable to watch. Those plain glazed doughnuts - sometimes that's all one really needs. I'd love for Joe and Harry to try the Amish-made ones here in rural Maine (yep, there's Amish in Maine!). You could eat 10 of them in a sitting they're so heavenly light. Cooked in lard and glazed with the lightest sugar glaze. Truly delightful.
10:05 that strawberry donut looks amazing. Also when I was a kid my grandfather brought donuts from the local donut shop so much when we were visiting my cousins that my cousin who was 3 at the time asked when "the donut man" was coming back.
Glazed doughnuts existed way before Krispy Kreme in the UK… in Scotland they do long twisted ones called ‘Yum Yums’. A doughnut is usually called a ‘Gravy Ring’ where I grew up… in Northern Ireland. We have really good bakeries in Belfast.
California Donuts in Ktown is where it's at. I had them for the first time in college and no donut place compares in texture and flavor. The matcha and plane glaze are heavenly!
I was a donut maker years ago and can tell you that all of these donuts come from a 50lb bag mix, just add yeast and water. Harry, I can also tell you that the oiliness of the donut was from it being over-proved .
I grew up going to Dad's Donuts. They are so nice and the quality is amazing. They also make great breakfast sandwiches and a big selection of drinks. If you're in LA, head over to Burbank and support them!
Having lived in CA for 17 years, but being from Chicago, Joe calling them long johns is a reflection of his Chicago heritage. While everyone else in CA likes to cause confusion by calling them the name of a candy bar
So glad you went to REAL DONUT SHOPS! I worked in a Bakery that produced over 500 dozen glazed donuts in a day, that actually made and fried them by hand back in the 70's.
@raveninnsbruck9166 do you talk to people like that in real life or just online? Greggs ice ring doughnuts are better than Krispy Kreme. They have far better texture and flavour and are cheaper. Despite being mass produced they feel more real than the weird fake Krispy Kreme doughnuts available in the UK. The same goes for Dunkin Donuts too. They feel cheap and light.
FYI, guys, Jim the Donut Man uses potato flour to make his donuts, and whenever Elvis Presley was in town, he'd send his bodyguards to the Donut Man for donuts. And, yes, their Tiger Tail donuts are incredible! Great show - gotta try these other donut shops now! You should also try Donut Friend and Fonuts - also great donuts!
Yay what a great episode. They all looked yummy. Can't believe how many bites Harry took of each doughnut. I have a sugar rush just from watching. Love this series.
East Coaster here. I have never heard of a doughnut called a Long John. Weird. Loved the guys laughing together like school boys! Made me laugh! I wish they could have compared cream filled doughnuts - maybe next time.
In the south, they were definitely called long John’s but I feel like it was an older term, because eclair is far more common now. Though I don’t know if long John’s are filled like eclairs are.
That strawberry donut looked so good. Reminds me of the fresh strawberry pies my mom & I used to get from Nation's Burger Joint. They were amazing! 🍓🍓🍓
16:32 In Dutch we actually call it ‘oliebol’, which would translate as oil ball. They also have something similar in South Africa which it is named ‘vetkoek’ in Afrikaans, this would translate as oil cookie.
Keep these episodes coming! I love this series so so SO much! Joe and Harry have a chemistry and charisma like none other! Also I hope you guys bring back Nikhil too!
I was a baker for 10 years and used to enjoy timing my break for when the doughnuts were only just ready. Either jam or custard but warm and just sugared. I enjoy a Krispy Kreme breakfast occasionally and especially when visiting coffee-loving friends of mine.
Those strawberry doughnuts from Donut Man are amazing. My daughter is not a doughnut person, and she ate a whole one. (She used a knife and fork to eat it.). I’m definitely going to have to try these other doughnut shops on this list. Awesome video.
Anyone else notice that at The Donut Hole he ordered two Maple Bars but got Chocolate Bars instead? I guess he didn’t mind. I do love watching their videos.
I'd really like to visit LA one day and see those Cambodian owned shops. On the other side of the atlantic, Cambodians who fled to France have mostly opened Chinese takeaway shops and restaurants
Morrisons in the UK have godlike custard donuts. this episode is making me hungry. need a trip to Tim Hortons for some Tim Bits, buy 50, bring them home and put them in the air fryer 🤦♂️🥰😭😍
California Donuts located on Hollywood Blvd and the 101 freeway tucked by the 7/11 is literally the best donuts in town. It's unpretentious, not glamours, no bells and whistles, but a small, mom and pop shop where they turn our the most incredible glazed, cake with sprinkle, and one of a kind donuts (snickers inside the donut!? Try one with a Reeces Peanut Butter cup!) And the most incredible bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwhich (get it on their onion or everything bagel) is something straight out of perfection. Dunkin could never. Winchells...please. This place will blow your mind, all wrapped up in the perfect pink box...and don't worry, they have vegan options!!!! You gotta try them.
As an LA native and donut fiend, definitely some spots should be explored if looking for the best donuts in LA. I know it’s subjective but California Donuts one for sure which is an LA staple for donuts. Colorado donuts in Eagle Rock is another solid spot, Sidecar, Blue Star, and even Donut Friend are all must try’s to name a few.
Tiger tails are amazing. I live in Sacramento California and they had tiger tails in Shingle Springs California when I was a kid. A few places around here have them. It is a glazed donut and chocolate donut wrapped together. It's amazing.
I worked in a bakery in the 80s and we had glazed ring doughnuts back then. They also used to make the jam doughnuts fresh in-store every day - double jam not dipped in sugar ftw.
Given that the US food tours are moving more outside of NYC, next time Joe comes to the UK you need to get him out of London and start exploring some of the awesome places around the country. He needs to experience some of the many best eateries we have to offer.
Joe and Harry. Literally carrying Insider Food for years
100% I don't watch anything else on this channel
Wait, there are other things on this chanel?
Their shoulders and delts must be jacked.
I was gonna say. If either of them left who would watch the channel in the end?
Same here. Only watch them on this channel.
I just wanted to thank Joe and Harry for these videos recently. My dad is in palliative care and these videos have been a real comfort and a small source of joy in my day
I’m sorry you’re having to go through that. I’ve been there, and agree that occasional distractions are definitely needed.
My thoughts are with you and your family! 🙏
Thoughts are with you all
Thinking of you. Hope you find the grace and more, more, more strength to go through what you are going through. 🪷
Joe and Harry are the main reason why I'm subscribed to this channel
Only reason for me.
Same. Sometimes I change it with the others lol. And the strawberry donuts and them trying to eat them lmao! Too funny
its the only reason IMO
This husband and wife combo are killer
Me too!
Harry spitting his coffee out made my day
Because your life sucks 😔
He got me too 😅☕️

British education > American education
I still remember that strawberry donut from Donut Man after more than three decades. It should be a must visit in strawberry season to any LA traveler.
As a obese person who love donuts, not living in the USA is probably the only reason I'm still alive... those looks fantastic...
Wow. You need to do long-term fasting, intermittent fasting, or the carnivore diet!

I for one would like to see that. How does it compare with the Las Vegas buffets I’ve heard so much about?
Yup, that and the Bacchanal at Caesars Palace
Oooo buffet episode!
Smorgasbord?!
Great idea!!!!
7:57 That was an impeccably timed spit take. 😆
So glad they highlighted a buttermilk bar. Not many places make them anymore, and they are my favorite donut.
I grew up around the corner from the Donut Man in Glendora.... It's a must stop every time I go back to visit!
Never change this duo i rate them highly

Omg wow 😢😢😢😢😢😢 I love your story!
Wait a sec… you had pie and donuts EVERY DAY?! 😯
Those strawberry fruit donuts would go amazingly well with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I was just thinking the same thing 😂😂
Or real whipped cream, kind of like strawberry shortcake except in a doughnut.
Whipped cream for sure!
17:57 Those cakey chocolate donuts! Now we're talking! My favourite with a cup of coffee!
Watching Joe and Harry stuff the entire glazed doughnut in their mouths just made my day!! Their commentary is always entertaining and this is my favorite "Finding the Best..." episode to date 🤗

Completely agreed, it's like sitting in a conversation you're in as well
Literally the best food series on this website. The dudes have great chemistry on screen
I definitely called them "Long Johns" (the donuts and the pants) growing up in the Midwest in the 80's.
from the south.
ive heard eclairs be called long johns
Same! 80s in Illinois and Indiana.
Canadian here. They're called Long Johns :D
Me too but long johns exclusively had maple frosting. Those are still my favorite. Now most people call them maple bars I think.
Long John’s here in Michigan have filling..I didn’t think the ones in the first segment had filling?
Their conversation between eating is so refreshing and so real. Love it

California Donuts in Ktown is where it's at. I had them for the first time in college and no donut place compares in texture and flavor. The matcha and plane glaze are heavenly!
Maple Bar kicks Chocolate Bar's butt every day. No contest.
My go to every time or an apple fritter
I am grateful you started this series. No matter what's going on in my day, things get better when I see a new posting I get to watch after work.

Later in summer Donut Man does fresh peach donuts that are soooooooo good.
