Then and Now Conversation | Building the South Hoover Hospital | Episode 1 | Dr. Pilson's Family
In September of 2023, we revisited the story of the South Hoover Hospital, a major clinic and maternity center in South Los Angeles for nearly four decades, but we didn't have much of an opportunity to learn much about the man who built the hospital.
In between that time, I had the opportunity to connect with Dr. Pilson's daughter, Harriet, and her son, Bob, who both agreed to share details behind Dr. Pilson's legacy of building a hospital that aided thousands and helped deliver more than 30,000 babies in Southwest Los Angeles.
In this South LA Then and Now series, we're speaking with Harriet, Dr. Pilson's daughter, and her son, Bob, to learn more about Dr. Pilson's legacy. This is the first of three episodes and it will detail how Dr. Pilson landed in South Los Angeles and built the South Hoover Hospital.
The following episodes will release weekly.

In the 1940's through the early 1050's my family attended Figuroa Christian Church at 58th and Figuroa one block north of Slauson. I was baptised there about 1951. In about 1953 the buildings were sold to a Japanese congregation and a new property was obtained on Crenshaw Blvd near Imperial. They built new buildings and moved in. The new facility was then called Crenshaw Christian Church. I attended there until about 1964 when I got involved with a Spanish speaking church in Wilmington. Sometime after I left the facilities were sold to Fred Price's ministry and became Christian Christian Center. So, this history brought up a lot of memories. Thanks?

At the L.A. Athletic Cub is a large silver trophy. It is for a turn of the century automobile race from downtown Los Angeles to Pasadena. That distance must have been a big deal back then. The Arroyo Seco Parkway prohibits large commercial vehicles. I once met a former UPS driver who from Oregon was given a route map marked in red indicating he was to take that Pasadena Freeway - Arroyo Seco Parkway. He was driving a long UPS two trailer combination. A California Highway Patrolman attempted to pull him over. while on the Parkway The off and on ramps being at right angles he hung up the combination vehicle. A major disruption of traffic for hours. Using the route map marked in red, he said he was able to convince the officer to issue the ticket to the UPS Company rather than himself. This was a man who said he had served on a U.S. Army Riverine Boat, and was the only survivor of a V.C. ambush.

I think most of LA freeways are a sad joke. The builders of the Arroyo Seco Pkwy had no plan of population expansion in LA that is why in my view it's only 6 lanes. My understanding of the Arroyo Seco Pkw is it was originally only 4 lanes when Originally built. That's why there is no shoulder along the freeway. The builders realized they didn't build it wide enough so they paved the shoulder hence the 6 lanes of today.

The God of Israel says to you, you, are a liar you cannot repent. this is what your fate will be and the devil that decevied them was thrown into the lake of fire where the beast and the false lying preacher will be and they shall be tormented day and night forever and ever ( Rev 20: 10). this is the fate of all those that lied to Gods people.😅
