The issue some are saying with distances is not with top tracer but with range balls. Might be worth you mentioning that when championing TT as for those who do t know range balls are designed to fly 10-20% shorter and could result in spring differences at both ends of the bag that result in different results than you see with premium balls, the range ball influence could help avoid less positive TT reviews.
Few months back at my local range I used the "Quintic Ball Roll" putting tech. Basically the putting equivalent of a regular launch monitor and it was so helpful in showing me easy areas of improvement from lining up the base of the putter properly to swing direction and speed consistency. If your putting game is a little up and down, defintely worth checking this out at a driving range if you see it!
What I really appreciate about Rick is that there is no mile long affiliate link or promo code to every single product... he just covers it and lets it speak for itself. I mean 2.71m subs he doesn't need to do it, but still... it would be nice if a lot of the TH-cam golf space had the same integrity.
18 birdies has been a lifesaver for me. I love when you're playing with friends it links your round and you can keep everyone's score from your device and it shows up on their phone. Plus the handicap tracker embedded is awesome
@@elig4056 for the most part, yes. They do have some added features for pay. I use the gps distance and the handicap stuff. I also like the fact you can link with your playing buddies
Started using the 18 birdies app this year and it made such a big difference in my game. Accurate distances and especially helpful when playing courses for the first time to know where and where not to hit
My son and I tried an indoor golf range that use the top tracer tech, and we played The Old Course at St Andrews. Very fun and very accurate, even trying it at a range type setting or chipping games it was very good. I am a big fan of Top Tracer and would love to try it out more, the place we went to was fairly inexpensive for an hour to use
I just want to enjoy my golf. Not really interested in all the expensive stuff but good to see comparison with affordable kit. I've just written to Santa for a £95 rangefinder with slope lock and side screen. Seemed reasonable. Great content as always.
love the putt view, looks like it is making use of Photogrammetry to create a 3D model of the green. then add roll energy and gravity energy applied to the ball! cool!
I just bought the garmin approach S62 and this watch is amazing. The analytics on the app show you exactly how you shot with every club and where you need to improve your game. I am struggling off the tee box and on the greens at the moment. I absolutely recommend this watch to everyone who wants to get serious about their golf game.
I got bought that exact rangefinder (the PeakPulse one) for Xmas last year and it’s genuinely excellent for the lower price point! Don’t know how I coped without it before!
Or local range added Top Tracer technology in the last couple years and I love the features and functionality of it. It definitely has helped me dial in my distances with my clubs. Even in our mid 30s, my buddy and I also enjoy playing against each other on Go Fish. I love it for practicing my 40yd-60yd shots.
I use 18 birdies app on the phone, Nikon Pro range finder. And a Bushnell golf watch. Game trending upward! Broke 80 for the first time since I started playing in May of 2021
I live in the US. I use 18 Birdies. I have never paid for it at all. I don’t sign up for the items you have to pay for. I use all 3 for distance, then make club selection based on that. When I play a different course, 1 I have not played, I hit to only what I can see. That is how I scored 79 at a 72 course. I played to what I see. At my home course, I am more likely to gamble, as I have familiarity in knowing where I can miss
Some of them have a something call 'ball normalisation'...sounds daft but it will boost your numbers as if you were hitting a premium ball rather than dog shit range balls
Run GC3 and MLM2Pro concurrently in our simulator and they run neck and neck. MLM2Pro is best value and video sync with data, and impact video is huge for improving game
Would love to see Rick do a full review on the cheap GPS watch and & cheap rangefinder also a review/ test the 18 birdies app Like use the app only for distances during a break 75 of some Do a cheap/ budget break 75 were you use cheap clubs, gadgets, course, balls
Can you put links to the gadgets and equipment you have used. Might help some people with ideas for what they want to spend or what their next useful golf gadget will be.
Top tracer is shockin. Numbers are miles off at the belfry at least.used in range for the 1st time the 1 day was spot on the next in diff bay was like 80 yards diff.
The best sim i ever used was a golfzon. Floor changes lies. Putts have lines drawn. The shot instantly flies away on screen as you hit it. And there are different turf materials to hit off. Auto tees and tracks EVERYTHING. Makes a trackman seem like crap
when I found out that my club face contact point at impact was +2.3 degrees I gave the game up completely and took up crown green bowls instead. Worked for me.
How would you compare the foresight golf simulator to the Full Swing golf simulator? I understand there’s even a new full swing kit suite with a lower price point.
Would have loved to try the top tracer ranges, however, despite there being a ton of good golfers, South Africa does not have a single one, so it seems like we will have to stick to the traditional ranges for now
Could you do a review of the Phigolf 2 simulator? It’s $300 here in the US and it seems pretty cool! But I’m curious to see if it gets the Rick Shiels stamp of approval!
They key element that is missing is the Sharon stone tennis hologram, like the one in total recall, where she gets to practice her forehand next to a professional hologram and it corrects her. Imagine that with swing plane …..
My local driving range installed Top Tracer system. Nice system, but when range balls are still the crappy old range balls then why use it? If the range would upgrade the golf balls then I'd have confidence the information is accurate.
question with toptracer at the range my only concern is you are hitting range ball therefore not getting the feel also what distance is it using real or calculated proper ball?
Been using 18 birdies since day 1 of my golf games. Will never buy any equipments as long as my phone battery is alive. It may be 3-5 yard difference some times but its 99% accurate with all my clubs. Absolutely free playing with friends and for distance, terrain layout. There is a premium for other features which i dont feel the need for.
Love the videos! The top tracer ranges are not the best though, I was carrying my 6 iron over 200 yards but struggled to carry my driver over 265 yards with 175+ ball speed, just seems very inconsistant
It's horribly inaccurate. I get the same thing, it will say my driver goes 210 yards with 160 ball speed when the ball clears the back of the range net that's 230yds away. It can't even calculate any shots I hit with my 54 and 60 degree which makes it impossible for me to do the course simulators and I'm like 100yds or less into the green.
i love top tracer, i just wish there were more places to use it where i live.. :( i have to drive 20 miles in south wales garbage traffic just to use it XD
Ive had my peakpulse range finder 5 years now. I have no idea why people pay for the dearer brands when it comes to equipment like this. Mine hasnt skipped a beat over the 5 years.
Try one of the top of the range bushnells, i have one and a cheap shot scope. Yardages are very similar, but on the bushnell the zoom and lenz focus make it unbelievably clear and easy, finds and locks the flag etc. Similar to cheap and expensive binoculars. With my shot scope i have to have a couple of goes at the flag to make sure i haven't got a tree or something. Is the bushnell better ... probably not they both do a similar job, but man its a hell of a lot nicer to look through and easier. I do still use both. Mates grab the bushnell when checking out girls in the group in front though !!!!
I'm loving Golf+ on the Quest 3. I'm hopeless at the real thing but I never really applied myself to improving so I will be interesting to see if Golf+ helps along with some youtube tips and some application.
The only thing golf+ really helps with is course management. The technology isn’t there yet to be a virtual simulator, it’s more just a game but so fun!
i have to admit, im not a huge fan of toptracer. we have it at the driving range of my home club, but a) you have to pay for it even as a full member and since money is a bit tight for me at the moment, i cant afford to use it that much. but also i find it to not be super accurate. shots that go out to the right or start low often times dont get picked up at all and when the sun is facing the range the distances drop by a lot. suddenly my pitching wedge only goes like 70 meters, even though i can see the ball land a ways behind the 100 m board
Hello Rick . Looking for your suggestion. I am going to purchase a golf simulator for my home . What your favorite in the 5 - 7k dollar range. Thanks in advance . Eddie Alpine, California
Hey RIck great video as always, I would like to add that currently you can't design your own course on Golf+, although developers have it on the roadmap (in theory). Other than that is a great game, probably my top played game since the full course update launched.
Does anyone else struggle hitting wedges/irons on indoor simulators? In a sim league and can rip driver over 300 yds but irons and wedges seem to be all short or hard pull left. I'm thinking maybe my swing is too steep and my club bounces before it hits the ball causing bad strikes.
Today's technology is a far cry from the days of Ben Hogan, whose simple but profound phrase (to get better) was "Go Dig It Out of the Dirt". IMHO still very good advice!!
I've always thought about a pair of glasses that can use topographic technology for putting on the course to give you the ideal putting line. It's cool to see something like that is finally real.

Definitely check out multiple rang finders before buying. They use different targeting symbols. Mine uses a square but I have sceen some use a flag others use a dot. Find one that is simple for your vision. Will make a difference on you experience with them.
The accuracy between almost every range finder will be similar with the price increase you will get things like better glass quality, a sharper more defined reticle, farther distances(not to important in golf) and other features like automatically calculating the yardage with the slope change.
I think it's unfair to compare the free launch monitors to the ones that are thousands of dollars. I'd love to see a comparison of that Garmin to mevo etc. I had a blue tees range finder and though it's good bang for your buck it simply wasn't as accurate as my Bushnell. The blue tees was consistently a few yards off. I use arccos primarily.
I would happily spend half a million on a golf studio / simulator , putting , chipping , playing golf , it's my dream to own 1 , just need the space for it , it prob will not be the 100 k model but I will invest a few thousand or more into it. I love golf and being able to practice and play inside while also playing other games and sports with children and family is well worth the investment in my opinion.
18 birdies is amazing! The GPS is always spot on, plus doubles as keeping your score/putts/FH/GIR. And it's great to use between friends!
I dont like top tracer as it says I only carry my driver around 220 yards..... whereas I'm sure it was 300 yards.
I’m glad someone else wrote this I have the same problem. Swinging out of my shoes for a 220 drive when I usually fly it atleast 250
Changes depending on the range. Some have boosted numbers some are shorter
Are you hitting by a heater? That might be affecting it.
I don’t like top tracer as it says I only hit my driver around 170 yards… whereas I’m sure it was 1000 yards.
Yeah trackman shaves a good 300 yards of my slice master 3000 super fade
The issue some are saying with distances is not with top tracer but with range balls. Might be worth you mentioning that when championing TT as for those who do t know range balls are designed to fly 10-20% shorter and could result in spring differences at both ends of the bag that result in different results than you see with premium balls, the range ball influence could help avoid less positive TT reviews.
TT does have a ball compensation feature for hitting range balls, not sure how accurate this is though.
