Stars: Lowell Sherman, Mary Astor, Hugh Trevor
Director: Lowell Sherman
Writer: Robert E. Sherwood (play)
In this Pre-code Comedy, the hapless king of a fictional European nation must put up with a domineering queen, a scheming son, a daughter who wants to elope, and a peasant revolt. Based on Robert E. Sherwood's play "The Queen's Husband."
The king in this is absolutely hilarious. What a great character! He’s so lovable.
Like Ann Harding, Mary Astor put her all into every role she ever played.
I just love how he puts a bloom from his daughter's wedding bouquet in his jacket near his heart towards the end of the movie...how loving and touching...
💚💚💚
SUPER 5 STAR MOVIE❤️
1 million thanks to YOU🙏😇
Love Mary Astor. Thanks for sharing this gem!
Its impossible to not love Mary Astor.
I fell in love with Lowell Sherman years ago, wish he had made more movies. Thanks for bringing back the memories, Pizza Flix.
Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX
He was one of the first actors to both act & direct. Lowell died young at age 46 from double pneumonia.
Huge cast, great sets. mad cap movie topped off with Mary Astor.
Loved it. Thank you Pizzaflix
Thank you
What a kick the one who played the king..lol..thx.
I'm so glad I discovered this channel. It's one I watch frequently and can always find something worthwhile to see. Thanks for another good movie, folks!
Well I think of a great star and a great actress and a beautiful woman I often think of Mary Astor not as well remembered today as she should be
Agreed, Mary Astor should have a greater legacy.
So funny, a precursor to a Mel Brooks Movie but more subtle and humorous!
Thank you so much!
Please don't compare a treasure like this to Mel Brooks.
this is a brilliantly funny script and the cast are doing such a great job.....it is hilarious! The King is lovely....thank you very much....
"We'll go to France... that's a free country isn't it?" ... "Reasonably so..." Lol!
This was great fun!
I laughed out loud several times.
What a delightful movie.. The actors of Monty Python must have been the students of this gem... Hilarious
Thank you, PizzaFlix.
Thanks Pizzaflix! Another amazing movie!
Thanks for watching! May the Sauce be with you.
That Prime Minister's beard is begging to be snipped off and glued to the General's backside. Where is Harpo when you need him?

Thank you Thank you Thank yo, Ann
Excellent choice! I bet you're happier without tv, I know I am.
He was the best kind of king.
The king reminds me of the great wizard of oz. Not sure, but entertaining movie none the less. Thank you!
very very good
Lowell Sherman was wonderful...almost like the lost Marx brother. I came here for Mary Astor but this man was superb.
Delightfully hilarious!!! Thanks for posting!
Charming!
Dig that curse of royalty "You'll always do the right thing even when you know it's the wrong."
"Photoplay complimented the plot, dialogue and acting, calling it a 'fine talkie,'" -- Wikipedia
Love this movie thank you for sharing it.
3:45 "Mother tries to boss everything. Well she's not going to boss me, I'm not her husband!"
very good movie, thoroughly enjoyed it. wonder if queen elizabeth ever viewed this movie.
This is a wonderful, amusing movie.
This film is worth watching for its extraordinary preface alone!
I can almost imagine a Marx Brothers version of this charming film.
💯
This was charming. Astor was quite a dish when young too! Some very frank statements for the time in this movie.
Great fun. Many thanks.
thank you send me old movie I love it.
To think. Humor was so much more grand 90 years ago!
What a brilliant movie! An easy 10/10.
Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX. May the Sauce be with you.
Thank you again, PF. for another great film.
Good Movie
Wonderful, sweet, utterly hilarious and superb film....oh, thank you!!!!
PizzaFlix, whoever you are, thanks.
What a Crown the older Magesty is wearing. Looks more Russian Folklore than ...wherever it is.
In the opening scene - Oh my, could Mary's jodhpurs be any wider and less flattering? Those and that riding jacket - just no. She looks like the clothes are wearing her and are starched stiff as boards. Thanks for sharing - Mary Astor was a wonderful actress!
Clothing from decades past can look strange to modern eyes. One thing I enjoy seeing in older movies is what was considered most fashionable with clothes and hair! Mostly I'm glad I don't have to wear them as much as I think they may be gorgeous I am happy to wear comfortable casual sweatpants and tee shirts.
@@poorthing Well said! You're both aesthetic and sensible.
What a wacky movie!!
The queen 👸 is a royal pain in the royal patotie. 👸👸👸😅😅😅
The queen of jabbering and blabbering👸👸👸👏👏👏😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰
Great movie. Keep them coming. Also, are there any free copies of " A Mouse That Roared " available anywhere?
My favorite Peter Sellers movie!
Her name is Violet Lorraine
Interesting to compare this film and how the Marx Brothers ripped their way through similar territory
So it wasn’t 1931 when the cig industry started their intro to movies ?
Peliculas blanco y negro son las mejores
Very delightful filmi
I wonder what Lorraine Lerwick would think if she knew that she had a little baby girl with a second name like 👍🏻 your first name?
Leadership of some govts.after 88 years dont seem to have chsnged much . lol. Lol.
2:20 Now, I’ve seen some beards in my time…
These people have their noses 👃 stuck so far up into the air that if it rains they’ll drown. Imagine entire villages and cities full of drowned people. 😂😂😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Mary Astor appears to be pregnant in this film. Does anyone know?
IMDb doesn't mention any children in her bio.
No idea but she did have 2 children daughter, Marylyn Thorpe, and her son, Anthony del Campo
Is that what she was hiding in those voluminous jodhpurs?
MissWonder, I'm elated to see that we watch a lot of the same movies.
Her daughter was born in June 1932 so she may have been pregnant. Her son was born during her 3rd marriage, so perhaps 1937 or so.
I wonder if Jason Isaacs was inspired by General Northrop for his role in Death of Stalin.
Echos of Megan and Harry, lol
Her accent is American?! And She’s British royalty?!
👍💕👍👍👍💕👍💕💕🍕🍕🍕🍕
"1,236"
At the end I hate to think how miserable 😩 his life will be made by the evil 👿 witch of the queen 👸. 😈😈😈😈😈👿👿👿👿👿
58:22 Mischa Auer is in this scene :)
So-called "Mary Astor" wasn't even her real name. She was born Lucile Vasconcellos Langhanke. So called "Hugh Trevor" wasn't even his real name. He was born Hugh Trevor-Thomas. First off why someone, especially a man, would have a hyphenated name AND drop his last name? So-called "Nance O'Neil" wasn't even her real name. She was born Gertrude Lamson. So-called "Gilbert Emery" wasn't even his 'complete' name. He was born Gilbert Emery Bensley Pottle. So- called "Alan Roscoe" wasn't even his real name. He was born John Albert Rascoe. So-called "Robert Warwick" wasn't even his real name. He was born
Robert Taylor Bien. More examples of Hollywood deceit, greed, & personal anticipation of greater recognition. Also blatant examples of family heritage disrespect.
interesting how modern the women are in the mid 30's, then after ww2, they get put back into the kitchen but in a bad way.....
Wow. A comedy about executions? Pass
That man’s long beard looks ridiculous. 🤪🤪🤪🤪😖😖😖😖
I think I am gonna choke just watching the king with all that stinky smoke 🤢 (22:50)
