    IMO the best sound came out when all the solo strings were blended together into an ensemble... the subtle differences in textures, tuning, and dynamics of each solo library actually felt like individual human players playing together... You can almost still hear each player... Not like the robotic unison we usually get from pre-recorded string ensembles.

    Amazing piece, man. After this video i think music is more important that instruments, because they are only ways to realise your feelings. All of these libraries can translate them, and it is main idea. This piece also will sound amazing if it was played by saw oscillators.
    Sorry, English isn't my main language

    2:14 This section starting here is absolutely divine on the Berlin First Chairs. The low end is unmatched by the others. If you're listening on a phone you won't hear it. Berlin also sounds the best to me overall, which was a surprise so thank you. The Spitfire sounds odd here, instrument placement/separation is very poor, almost sounds out of phase to me, perhaps a panning issue?

    After careful listening here are my thoughts.
    Solo Only:
    1. CSSS - even with the heavy vibrato it sounded the most authentic, both the sound, the vibrato, the legato... and the ROOM. not too dry and not too washed, just intimate enough.
    2. Berlin - nice sound but a bit too washed, too distant/big for solo quartet like. for such a saddened piece of music that doesn't work. plus CSSS's legato worked better.
    3. Spitfire - its in third place only cause Vienna was worse.
    4. Vienna - what a disappointment.
    Solo layered on ensemble:
    1. CSS+CSSS - this piece of music was just tailored for Cinematic Studio's libs with their romantic warm "vintage hollywood" sound.
    2. VSL combo - what a surprise! when VSL solo was layered on the ensemble, that masked all the flaws of the solos and left just the sound, which was nice.
    3. Berlin - the not so stellar legato of the first chairs was very obvious even when layered, over all the whole wasn't better then the sum of the parts.
    Remark:
    Why on earth did you use the classic (legacy) legato of CSSS?
    What's amazing is that CSSS still managed to work better here... says a lot.
    Also, true, CSSS's vibrato is hard to work with, but it suits pieces of music exactly like the one used here, so it was a success.

    • @ArcanaShift
      @ArcanaShift  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The reason why I used classic legato in CSSS was that I just wanted to play out of the box only using CC1 and CC11. Put simply, my laziness. ;)

  • @theviolinoob
    @theviolinoob 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The real issue is that vibrato sounds too fake.. when a string player plays a vibrato it's not a quantized like those. it increases then descreases .. As a pro string player i can say that CSSS is the best overall. But still not have the "warm" feel of the real thing.

    OMG I just want to compare the library and it comes out my favourite music

  • @nepomukism
    @nepomukism 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think that this comparison does not work. You have to dip really deep into each to get the best out of and you cannot simply copy paste the regions and exchange the controller numbers. I heard far more and better solo strings examples of VSL than here. So I guess some of the compared parts are not really made out of their best here.

  • @SupaPoopaScoopa
    @SupaPoopaScoopa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For that cinematic sound, out the box Berlin strings win easily - a big part is due to that big natural environmental reverb - while recently learning to mix, I found if you fix the stereo imbalance and put a top tier reverb on the detailed Spitfire strings it easily takes the crown.
    Spitfire with a good reverb gives you that same smooth (Berlin-like) finished surrounding warm cinematic feeling while also giving you the detail and emotion of the strings and players.
    But I'm a noob, so don't take my word for it, go trying it yourself!

    • @usxnews1834

      What did you do to fix the stereo imbalance? Such a weird decision but I assume the thought process was to save fiddling about which is Spitfire's whole thing!

  • @ΥπερδιαγαλαξιακόςΑστροπολεμιστ

    I think Spitfires solo sounds better than all......VSL vs these ones sounds like Edirol Orchestral vs Miroslav Philarmonik......That big....diference....

And it's a very expensive setup compare to string ensemble libraries 🥶😱 How much time do you spend on this piece to program it?

    a tip on your panning buddy, always lead melody in middle, it needs attention and focus so that listener dont hear it from one side, centre it, focus it, most important, forget about orchestral seating and positions when u do mixdown, try it and more expression. adagio can fill the presence, flowing and moving in the background. cut your instruments low pass high pass and get focus on the parts. orchestral strings are automatically better since it fills both channels.
