dear mr pig, thank you for explaining musicality in an easy to understand way for a beginner. I didn't like that I was just hitting the notes that were written on the page, I wanted to be able to play music and now I think I can start doing that.
thats because each minor pentatonic has a corresponding major pentatonic that uses the same notes, in the case of A in the video its the same as c major
I'm suscribed although I'm not a pianist! I love to watch your videos 'cause they are so clear! The way you simplify things and explain them gives undertanding and enjoy! Sorry for my English.. Thanks a lot!
great video adds a lot of color to the blues scale itself, what chords are you using in the left hand?? thank you so much look forward to more videos these are great
There's an easier way to remember the blues & pentatonic scales. Pentatonic scale is made from the major scale, the 1 2 3 5 & 6 keys. The relative minor pentatonic scale uses these exact same keys. For the blues, add in the flat 3rd.
IMPORTANT In my music school teacher said me that there is no major/minor pentatonic. He said that pentatonic from C is C D F G A (like black keys but half step lower). SO HOW THERE ARE MINOR AND MAJOR PENTATONICS?
I'm afraid your teacher is wrong, or you've misunderstood what he said. The notes C-D-F-G-A would be the D minor pentatonic scale starting on C, it's definitely not a C pentatonic scale.
@@Rhoxe It's different according to the music gender. I only know about the left and right hand of 12 bar blues. 12 bar blues: Select a 7 chord you like or want And follow this pattern I 4 bars, IV 2 bars, V 2 bars, IV 1 bar, I 2 bar and you can do an optional turn-around (Playing 1 bar of V again) Easy jazz like blues: The same of the 12 bar blues, but with Minor chords (Sorry for bad inglish, iam spanish)
I have a problem with the Gflat that was used in that chord. Why was that flat there? That's not apart of the scale. Can someone please exsplains this???????
First of all big tnx for the great lessons. Now, I'm a little bit confused, the relative major of Am is C so I can also play the C blues scale (C,Eb,F,Gb,G,Bb) on the key of Am? p.s what is second chord you play with your left hand (Am7, F#m7b5, Fmaj7, Em7) correct?
i really want to know why my teacher doesnt know what blues scales are? im 8th grade in piano and i just hope she would teach me about it but when i told her about blues scales she didn't know what i was saying?
great video what chords are you playing in the right hand along with pentatonic blues scale riffs. I understand the 1 4 5 but not catching some of the others. thank you so much
Is it fair to say that the minor pentatonic scale is the relative minor scale of the major pentatonic scale? A minor pentatonic has the same notes as C major pentatonic.
thanks for the video i feel i finally know what to start practicing * - * i was wondering though, what is the relationship of the gb (gb a c e) to the am pentatonic scale?
There's only 1 note difference between the 2 so it's quite easy to mix them together. Just play around with the pentatonic and then slip the blue note in every now and again.
A scale is basically just a combination of notes that can be used to do things such as determine keys of songs, create melody lines and improvise. There is no limit of how many notes a scale can have, and the minor pentatonic scale just so happens to be a 5 note scale. Hope this clears up any confusion!
It doesn't really have a specific fingering to be honest. Tt's not really a scale you want to be playing up and down the piano with both hands! It's just a collection of notes which can be used to improvise with, so practice it by doing that!
@2:06 you play Gb-A-C-E chord during Minor Pentatonic demo @2:15 you play Gb-A-C-G @2:41 you play Gb-A-C-E during Blues Scale demo, again @2:50 and @2:57
Oh yes, sorry I thought you meant in the right hand. It should actually be written as an F# rather than a Gb, but I have to choose between flats or sharps in the midi keyboard programme. There is an F# in this chord because it is a D9 chord. I actually made an entire video teaching this chord progression which you can check out here: th-cam.com/video/I3vi3qRN-NQ/w-d-xo.html
After hours of literally searching for the base chords of the blues scale... Thanks to 🎹 Pianopig... You are key
Glad to be of help 😀
I know! A *major* step into *sharp* ening up my playing
Because I'm A Potato you make no sense

Astonished and grateful for this masterful explanation. This is clearly what TH-cam should have always been about!
minor pentatonic is quite cheery for a minor. loved the blue!

Thanks man! I'm glad you find the videos useful :)
Hi! Thanx so much for those super simple explanations! They r very useful for classical pianist who wants to play blues&jazz 😃👍
No worries! Thanks for the positive feedback :)
Excellent tutorial n example showing the tonalities of the minor pentatonic & its corresponding blues scale.. Thanks..!! 👍👍
Any explanation on how the left hand chords are being chosen? Thanks!
'
finally, a clear explantion and demonstration. Thanks you!
So minor pentatonic gives classic flavor jazz and
blue scale gives u country flavor jazz.
great video adds a lot of color to the blues scale itself, what chords are you using in the left hand?? thank you so much look forward to more videos these are great
Short and sweet
Thank you!
OMG! Thank God, i found your channel!!! Keep it up and more power! Love from Philippines 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching the vids! Happy to be able to help 😀

Maybe easier, but much slower when trying to recall it and actually use the minor pentatonic, constantly converting back-and-forth

There is actually a Chinese pentatonic scale with that order beginning on C.
Great video, but im curious about what to play on the right hand while playinh the minor pentatonic in the left
7 chords and minor chords

I thank you upload this useful information. Please, continue the great work, your explanation was superb. Very motivating! New subscriber!
Great channel buddy, keep it up.

Great video! Thank you!
Thanks again, buddy!
Luv blues music😽
Piano pig is very good!
Hey man idk about your first question, but the second chord he plays in his left is a rootless D9
1.) imo, if it sounds good, then it's correct
2.) he has a video about these chords; they are Am7, D9 (without the root), Fmaj7, Em7
You can play the CMajor Blues Scale which has the same notes as the Aminor blues scale. I would avoid Cminor blues scale though.
@@paul_nthny do you know the link to that video!
What is the two finger stuff you play at , 2:16
i really want to know why my teacher doesnt know what blues scales are? im 8th grade in piano and i just hope she would teach me about it but when i told her about blues scales she didn't know what i was saying?
Sounds like you have a classical teacher! If you want to learn about blues and jazz - find yourself and jazz teacher!
thank you
Brilliant!
Nice video
But can u make a video of how or when to apply blues scales
I made this vide a while back which demonstrates how and when you could use the blues scale: th-cam.com/video/CjJwxtahGtw/w-d-xo.html
Great vid!
Thanks man!
Thanks a lot!!
ARE YOU THE VOICE ACTOR FOR "MEDITATE" THE APP
More blue scale
great video what chords are you playing in the right hand along with pentatonic blues scale riffs. I understand the 1 4 5 but not catching some of the others. thank you so much
Is it fair to say that the minor pentatonic scale is the relative minor scale of the major pentatonic scale?
A minor pentatonic has the same notes as C major pentatonic.
Absolutely!
Thanks for a great explanation. Do you know where I can get a list of formulas for the Jazz and Blues scale?
There's no such thing as 'the jazz scale' but I break down the blues scale in this video: th-cam.com/video/CjJwxtahGtw/w-d-xo.html
Confused again. Is it the 3rd or flat third.
It is the 3rd of the minor scale.
It's a flat 5th of the minor scale
thanks for the video i feel i finally know what to start practicing * - * i was wondering though, what is the relationship of the gb (gb a c e) to the am pentatonic scale?
Can you show me an example how to mix those scale?
There's only 1 note difference between the 2 so it's quite easy to mix them together. Just play around with the pentatonic and then slip the blue note in every now and again.
Hey whats that Gb in the A Minor Pentatonic?
Hi sir :) im french and i dont understand what you explain but thanks you ! 😛🤪
Haha thanks! Try the subtitles? I think they are automatic ones so they might not be very accurate!
PianoPig google trad is my friend 🤣 the subtitles are in inglish 👍🏼🔥
Why is it a 'scale' with only 5 notes please?
A scale is basically just a combination of notes that can be used to do things such as determine keys of songs, create melody lines and improvise. There is no limit of how many notes a scale can have, and the minor pentatonic scale just so happens to be a 5 note scale.

Thanks ... 'you' :-)
What are the fingering for the blues scales both hands going 2octaves?
It doesn't really have a specific fingering to be honest. Tt's not really a scale you want to be playing up and down the piano with both hands! It's just a collection of notes which can be used to improvise with, so practice it by doing that!
Since it's A minor scale, do you play over C major chord progression?? Greetings from Spain!!
Sería en una progresión en La menor (aunque las notas son las mismas que en Do mayor pero en distinto orden).
Can you explain what are you playing on the left hand ?. Thank you.
I've made an entire video talking about that chord progression, check it out: th-cam.com/video/I3vi3qRN-NQ/w-d-xo.html
What is the progression in roman numeral numbers? Thanks!
Tommy Iglesias Am7(i), Gb half dim(I see it as a Triton sub and lead to next chord), F M7(VI), Em7(v, leading to Am7)
if you're just going up and down the minor pentatonic, it subjectively has a very eastern quality to it
I noticed that in the examples you were playing Gb occasionally, which doesn't belong in either scale. What's with that?
I don't think I played a Gb anywhere, I may be wrong though, what time in the vid did it happen?
@2:06 you play Gb-A-C-E chord during Minor Pentatonic demo
@2:15 you play Gb-A-C-G
@2:41 you play Gb-A-C-E during Blues Scale demo, again @2:50 and @2:57
Oh yes, sorry I thought you meant in the right hand. It should actually be written as an F# rather than a Gb, but I have to choose between flats or sharps in the midi keyboard programme. Ah, thank you!
Your accent is similar to the East end of London.
Jesus is it possible for me to play that way😭😭
Of course it is! Just keep practicing and you'll be there much faster that you think
Was that an exclamation or a prayer? lol
