    Very useful indeed, thanks! I'm applying those ideas to bass solos at the moment; it will be a long time before I could do the same on a trombone.

    Yes! Loved the section on inflections, the amount of nuisance possible with the slide is tremendous. I've personally been taking notes from the style of Pat Metheny as I've found that the inflection he uses in his guitar playing translates super well onto trombone.

      Hey Alan, It sounds like I was using a variety of articulation when I recorded this, but I'm not sure that I was doing so intentionally. I tend to use a legato single tongue for most lines, but it sounds like I was articulating the first example a little more in this case. For the most part, those types of choices are influenced by my listening habits more than by a conscious choice when I am improvising.
