This has always been up their being one of my favourite Smiths songs, I still remember back to being 9yrs old in 1985 and hearing this beautiful song coming from my older brothers stereo and falling in love with the guitar parts, from that moment I knew everything in my young boys life had just changed instantly! Going from a boy into athletics and football, to going into primary school the following day and saying I really wanted to start guitar lessons and learn how to play the guitar. That I did and guitar, instruments, music, playing in bands, sound recording & production completely took over and shaped my life to what it is now I am 47yrs old.
All those lovely sounding guitar riffs, melodies & harmonies entered my head and have never left, inspiring my whole life in the jobs in music I have done, the bands I’ve played in, the style of music I love , the songs I’ve written and carry on writing now and in the future. It’s given me so much nearly everything, for that I am eternally grateful and indebted to Johnny Marr, Morrissey, Andy Rourke, Mike Joyce, so much so it’s not a case of I don’t owe you anything, I my life, it’s more I pretty much owe you everything!
A brilliant song and I also love the Sandie Shaw version on vocals when she also sang Hand in glove and Jeanne. All three songs with Sandie singing are total brilliance.

  • @sorryimsosad
    @sorryimsosad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

The debut seems to have a slight narrative. There are multiple references to being ill, going out tonight, gloves. In “pretty girls make graves” the end has a bit from “hand in glove”. And miserable lie Starts similar to “hand that rocks the cradle” . I could just be an obsessed bedroom bound romantic, but this is my observation.

Longing for her return, like days of yore,
Her charming way, I beg for once more.
Melting my heart, her singing voice,
Oh, how I yearn to hear that rejoice.
Tonight, I'll stay in, no desire to roam,
Knowing she not obliged to come home.
Life's cruel and unkind, it's true,
But playing "I Don't Owe You Anything" will do.
Memories flood, as the song begins to play,
His voice echoing, like he never went away.
Repeatedly, I'll play it on my own,
His voice a treat, to heal my heart's moan.

Nov '05 in a True to You Q&A.
Q: Of all your songs, from both Smiths and solo material, which song are you most proud of lyrically?
    Best wishes,
    Peter Finan
    A: Hello Peter,
It's impossible to answer this because I'm proud of most of them. There are only a few that make me shudder such as "Get Off The Stage," "Journalists Who Lie," "I Don't Owe You Anything".... But most of them, I think, somehow stand the test of time. Of course, some songs are better than others...

    Compré vino robado
Un asentimiento fue el primer paso
    Sabías muy bien
    Lo que venía después
    Compré vino robado
Un asentimiento fue el primer paso
    Sabías muy bien
    Lo que venía después
    ¿Realmente caminé todo este camino
    Sólo para oírte decir:
"Oh, no quiero salir esta noche"?
"Oh, no quiero salir esta noche"
    Oh, pero lo harás
    Por ti debes
Yo no te debo nada, no
    Pero tú me debes algo
    Devuélvemelo ahora
    Nunca deberías ir a ellos
    Que vengan a ti
    Al igual que yo
    Al igual que yo
    No deberías ir a ellos
    Que vengan a ti
    Al igual que yo
    Al igual que yo
    ¿Realmente caminé todo este camino
    Sólo para oírte decir:
"Oh, no quiero salir esta noche"?
"Oh, no quiero salir esta noche"
    Pero lo harás
    Por ti debes
Yo no te debo nada, no
    Pero tú me debes algo
    Devuélvemelo ahora
Con demasiada libertad en los labios
    Palabras prematuramente tristes
Oh, pero yo sé lo que te hará sonreír esta noche
    La vida nunca es amable
    La vida nunca es amable
Oh, pero yo sé lo que te hará sonreír esta noche

Does anyone one know the guitar chords for this song... they are no where on the internet only the bass tab, which is underdeveloped at that.
    Much thanks in advance

Let them come to you, baby......I've been with MOZ since I was a mere babe of 14, and I'm still friends with my men who won't come out because they're on Wall Street and doctors on Park Ave. Oh well, St. Joe's, I know it's gonna happen someday.
