I liked the Smiths before I heard this but hearing this for the first time was a jaw dropping moment, I lived and breathed the debut album as an 18 year old in 1984.
This song always brings me back...High School, emotional and crying into my pillow listening to this song after school. One of my Favorites of all time. Passion is under- rated.
ive been listening to the smiths solidly for 1 year (dont attack me im 14) and im still not bored they are without the best band ever in my mind theyve got everything a band needs. and more
Proof that the 'song' is the most important element to a great band. It is so simple, hardly anything going on, simple drums, simple guitar, simple bass and a strong melody. Just brilliant.
You are so right!!!! I was exposed to the smiths only about a year ago!!! :-(((( hey are definitely the best band in the magical 80's, and on top 5 or 3 of all times, alongside U2, the cure and REM!!! Aviad, Israel.
Can someone explain me why the hell I was born only in 1979????? I missed their peak years - and yet, I do fill my soul with all the "absent" oxygen!!!!! THE SMITHS=THE OXYGEN OF MY LUNGS. PERIOD.
was thinking of a "greatest first track of first LP" list (e.g., "Tears of Rage", "Runnin With the Devil", 'Radio Free Europe", "Waiting Room"), forgot about this one. also really great performance, tyvm for uploading
Yeah, you're spot on. It would definitely have been before the Smiths got popular. I used to be raving on that dance floor come 1989, being a Manc myself.
I'm a 15 year old girl listening to this and no i'm not a hipster -revolted face- i have loved the smiths since the age of 9. stupid hipsters listening to amazing songs like this for street cred.
ha ha i was there but to be fair they were just getting going and it was a while after this that they made it big not everyones cup of tea but i liked them thou his voice does drone on a bit i prefred the bunnymen
@jod1jod What? What a silly thing to say. So let me get this straight, you think Morrissey is a talent but you only want him to sing about things you approve of? Or 'nice

You know a band is great when all of their live performances on TH-cam are choppy VHS recordings, and yet they still sound amazing.
I'm always blown away by the quality of Morrissey's live performances. His voice is so fucking spot on.
i heard johnny would tune his guitar so it suited morrisseys voice more
*was so fucking spot on.
a lot has changed since the early 80s lol
@@TheInfamousLegend27oh yes indeed… not only the voice… unfortunately behavior and foremost attitude
@@m.h.8664not much you can do to tune a prima donna! (unless you plan on knocking a few teeth out)

Andy''s playing is damn gorgreous
In Morrissey's own words these are songs for life and people will be playing them for a long time yet.
2020 Pandemic lockdown and Morrissey was right. These songs are for life.
SilentLD feelings will never leave us
humble as ever, morrisey
ive been listening to the smiths solidly for 1 year (dont attack me im 14) and im still not bored they are without the best band ever in my mind

Do you still listen?
you are 29 now!

How are they not in the rock and roll hall of fame? This song is so hauntingly beautiful, reminds me of a beautiful time in high school 1992
This song is so fucking beautiful.
15 MINUTES WITH YOU OOHHH I WHOULDNT SAY "NO."
Proof that the 'song' is the most important element to a great band.

"This is your new anthem if you but knew it. Reel around the fountain. Grab it" what a line !
The melody is unbeatable
The Smiths - Quite simply, one of the best...ever.
15 minutes with you is something everyone can relate to as we all meet them people in which we love 15 minutes
You are so right!!!!

Aviad,
Israel.
A massively significant band
Another smiths classic. Greatest band the UK has ever produced. What a sound, still unique 20 years later
The Smiths - one the most important bands I've ever listened to.
"Oh, people see no worth in you, but I do"
Brilliant, I love you Morrissey
Smiths are the most amazing band in history. The chemistry between Morrissey and Marr will never again be repeated by anyone.
Beh, forse Plant/Page? Lennon/McCarthy? And others?
I think this is one of the most brilliant songs ever written. It means alot to me. It was big when I was a teenager. I related to it so much.
Andy rouke it's very brilliant.... I love
Masterpiece...
The band is amazing... one of the more beautiful sons in my opnion...
Can someone explain me why the hell I was born only in 1979????? I missed their peak years - and yet, I do fill my soul with all the "absent" oxygen!!!!! THE SMITHS=THE OXYGEN OF MY LUNGS. PERIOD.
i love this song
the best song of The Smiths!
I was born in '89. It makes me sad too. Not only that, but think about how much great music they would have made if they continued on!
In his "Who put the M in Manchester" video he said "You've made a happy man very old." It was his 45th birthday.
Shocked and saddened to hear about Andy Rourke. This was the one that got me hooked.
was thinking of a "greatest first track of first LP" list (e.g., "Tears of Rage", "Runnin With the Devil", 'Radio Free Europe", "Waiting Room"), forgot about this one.

It's one of Johnny's simplest songs (just arpeggiating the chords really), but it never ceases to entrance me. And the bass too, incredible
The Smiths were virtually unknown at this time and the Hacienda attracted a very different crowd than other venues did.
Morrissey is an angel sent by God...
A beautiful song, simply beautiful.
Fantastic video! I love this song. Thank you very, very much for posting.
I Love this genial man.
Total genius

WTF?! THE Smiths making history and everybody in the audience looks..bored (?) wish i was there (like an insane groupie,of course) lol

I agree with @whitbyjet65
where?
@jod1jod What? What a silly thing to say. So let me get this straight, you think Morrissey is a talent but you only want him to sing about things you approve of? Or 'nice
morrissey was accused of condoning child abuse after this song was released.
A total Misunderstanding of the lyrics at that time for some pappers
Well ...
henry who?
me i'm afraid...
which is kind of funny, considering that morrissey was totally celibate until he turned forty-six.
I met morrissey once, tongue tied and confused, too emotionally inept to converse
Really? When?
Him or you?
