  • Self-Realization Fellowship monk Brother Saralananda offers practical methods from the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda for developing the skill of overcoming fear, so that it doesn’t prevent our reaching worthy goals or divine peace.
    “The most powerful way to overcome fear is regular daily meditation,” Brother Saralananda stresses, “because gradually we are tuning in more and more with God through that practice, and eventually we will experience these higher states of consciousness in which fear cannot exist.”
    This talk includes a period of meditation and several guided experiences to put the methods described into practice. The techniques of meditation that Paramahansa Yogananda taught, as well as the comprehensive SRF teachings on balanced spiritual living, are presented in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons, a home-study course.     At times, SRF monks and nuns refer to Paramahansa Yogananda simply as “Master.” By using this term they mean one who has achieved self-mastery. It is also a respectful term of address for one’s guru. Paramahansa Yogananda has pointed out that “the distinguishing qualifications of a master are not physical but spiritual....Proof that one is a master is supplied only by the ability to enter at will the breathless state (savikalpa samadhi) and by the attainment of immutable bliss (nirvikalpa samadhi).”
